      From mosesandrooth law firm:
      FLORIDA RELATED PERSON EXEMPTION
Under Florida law, a spouse, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother or sister, or a person otherwise related by blood or marriage to the principal actor cannot be charged with aiding and abetting under most circumstances. However, extended family members could face charges, including aunts, uncles, or cousins.
What is the rationale behind the related person or family exemption? The reasoning is that it is unrealistic to expect family members to turn in their spouse, child, parent, etc. The duty to one’s family will often outweigh any responsibility a person might feel toward their moral or legal obligations. As a result of these public policy concerns, the Florida legislature has carved out this exemption to aiding and abetting.
      Exception To The Exemption
There is an important caveat to the exemption. If the crime involves child neglect, child abuse, or results in the death of a child, the related person exemption does not apply. Any family member, regardless of whether they are immediate or not, can be charged.

The Laundries are protective of themselves and can write an eloquent explanation to the public extrapolating some details in defense of themselves, but offered emptiness to the Petitos. What bothers me and pisses me off is how they did not help Gabby's parents. My son travels all over, rock climber. If he came home without his girlfriend, he might fool me at first, but if her parents called, I would be all over his ass. It might break my heart knowing I am about to lose my son to prison, but it would not override justice for a young lady. Lastly, my son and I still write letters. He is 27. Sometimes he is in areas with no service, and he will run into someone and say, hey, can you mail this for me. I don't know if he has, but I have saved every letter he has ever written to me.

From the information presented to the public, Brian seemed to have 2 very controlling women in his life. But one seemed intent on winning and keeping her " baby boy" home and for herself. It's something akin to a jealous other woman rivalry. It was not normal.
Gabby wanted a happy relationship independent of all of them. Imo Instead, she was treated like the enemy.
      Why?
I think Brian was already damaged long before he met poor Gabby from the way he treated her, and then, left her in the wilderness all alone.
Basically, he also then just went home to mama.
I believe he told them everything, too.
How could Gabby have ever had a healthy relationship with him when his parents meddled in their lives every step of the way?
      Why?
Maybe said mother felt she had to be this way because she knew intuitively and from experience how disturbed and sick he was? But to blame and demonize someone else is only negligence and denial of the truth. Gabby did not force him to, as he termed it " end her life."
The obvious question is was he pointed that direction by his mother?
Why didn't the father step in and speak to the Petito family? Is he likewise " controlled" , or just a complete jerk, or both?
Was it financially motivated as well in that having the problems this young couple had, daddy didn't want to support the two of them. ???
      Smh
      Where's their compassion?
      Two people are dead .
But they can still be truthful if they wanted to be. That would heal a lot of things...

How does Roberta think bc she wrote the letter BEFORE the murder makes it look like it has no relation?! Hello?! Doesn't that make it look MORE suspicious?! If she wrote it before the murder, like she said, is it just coincidental a murder happened?! If anything, that makes it look more guilty! She completely knew it was at least in his head to do something whether she thought he would or not.

And even if not, reading this letter would have encouraged any weird thoughts in his head knowing she would have his back. So I wouldn't say it's completely unrelated even if the mom didn't have any criminal intentions. It would still add context to the dynamics leading up to the murder. To me it paints a picture of a mother having problems with letting her adult son leave and live his own life with a woman she doesn't approve of for whatever reason.

I agree with both above comments... OP and first commenter. I have a feeling, though, that the letter will not be admitted due to the lack of a date. I hope I'm wrong, because, with addition to the "camping trip" it's VERY damning.
Edit: Also, the fact that she included kids books titles, in a memory of sweeter times, is also damning because she knew what she raised. It, to me, is a sentiment to a man who she remembers as a little boy, and innocent boy, who she once read stories too. Making note of their precious times of his innocence. Makes no sense, otherwise, to include them other than that.

I think they had seen the violence in him and knew what he might be capable of and the Mother wrote this knowing he could be brought to violence and wanted him to know even if he did the most outragous thing imaginable she would still be in his corner. Also, remember Brian went back to them shortly before Gabby was killed and i would imagine he told them how he was struggling with her and how he's gotten violent on the trip. I wouldn't be surprised if she gave him that letter on that occasion and not before they left on the trip. I also think that maybe this gave him the courage to step over that line of just slapping etc Gabby to killing her knowing that his Mother would be in his corner. I have never doubted that both parents knew Gabby was dead even before Brian showed up at their doorstep with the van and no Gabby to be seen. I feel the FBI have seriously let everyone down by not charging the parents with obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting a criminal, the very least obstruction. Heck they should charge them with the cost of the search for Brian since they knew exactly where he was all along, wasn't it them that found him the first day they went out?! That search was very costly and they could have helped much sooner than they did and cost the State and county who knows how much in manpower and resources.

It's extremely difficult to understand why the FBI or Police could say they couldn't file charges against Brian or his parents or at least the mother. Funny how they always claim to only need suspicion in every day interactions but they couldn't use that claim with the circumstantial evidence surrounding what everyone saw when this all took place. Just sickening!

Yet another man murders a young woman because he can't control his anger. Gabby's death hit me hard and I'll never forget her. When Brian came home without her made me think the parents had to know. And then him disappearing is just more rage and guilt. He was going to have his way even if it meant taking his own life. I would like to know if his parents had a good marriage or if they were angry and controlling too? The apple and all of that.

I don't think the letter has any real significance to it other than the relationship between Brian and his mom was kind of weird. What is bad is that Brian came home with Gabby's van and no Gabby and Brian's parents refused to speak with Gabby's parents when they were desperately trying to find her. Obviously, they knew something had gone terribly wrong and they did not do a thing about it. They were probably in a "must save Brian" type of mindset.

The Laundries, especially Roberta, cared nothing about Gabby's whereabouts. They didn't care one bit, everything should be laid bare, nothing should be hidden when a man kills your child in the worst possible way, buries her in a shallow grave, takes her vehicle back to his parents and his parents cover for that man. Nothing should be covered in this case when Gabby's parents suffered for weeks not knowing what happened to their child. They could have prevented all this if they had contacted the police when Brian called them, when Brian returned home with Gabby's van without Gabby. They had many, many chances to do what was right for Gabby and her family. They chose not to, it revealed them, it showed how little they cared for someone else's child and it explains why Brian could kill Gabby - no feelings, no heart, no thought or care for any of the families of Gabby Petito. The Petito's and the Schmitz family need to make sure nothing is left covered when it comes to the Laundries. They deserve justice for what they had to go through.

They were trying to help their son, they seem to have been very protective parents... but there's no doubt in my mind that he toldl them. So they made their choice, they helped their son finish it and take his own life. Now they pay for it. Would you do the same thing for your son?

#2, how deep a mother's love is, just goes to prove that she would indeed do anything to protect her son...
#3, if it isn't so shady, why try to stop it from coming into evidence... let's see what the full letter states and it's context in it's entirety.
It just seems way too suspicious

There is a "little bear lake" in Florida that they might of had family or friends living around the lake that would help hide him. As a mother that's how I see a mother would message her son like that. Her writing about burying a body? There is no escaping the fact it was written after Gabby was murdered!
