- Dignity can be the answer to healing...Explains Bob Fabey. But how? Listen to his unique perspective on what it means to heal and restore. Bob Fabey, an Anglican priest, punched a teacher who poked him hard in the chest in the seventh grade. Instead of expelling Bob or throwing him out of class, the teacher sat him down and asked him to write down everything he liked about himself. He couldn’t come up with anything. His teacher then showed him his list. It ran the length of the page. This simple act of dignity helped change his life forever. The Dignity Gap, Bob's new book, was released in March of 2023 and illustrates his passion for viewing himself and others with dignity. His relatable approach to life and the scriptures makes his teaching practical and compelling, all while adding a dash of humor! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
What a beautiful reminder to always treat people with humility and love. You are spot on Bob. Thank you for the reminder.
Thank you so much!
Bob, I love the work you do and your message! You help us remember to act with kindness towards each other, not knowing other people's cracks and dents.
Thank you Kelly!
Thanks for the challenge. I love the picture of brokenness being healed with value creating uniqueness.
Thanks Bryan!
Bob, I appreciate your message, when someone puts a figurative foot in our face, it is so easy to write the person off, yet that route always takes us downhill. I look forward to learning more from you on how to care for all people. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Julian!
Thanks for reminding me to be curious about someone's story rather than judging their behavior so quickly, Bob!
You bet. Me too!
I appreciate how you said "Frankenstein's monster" since so many people think the monster IS Frankenstein.
Thanks for the reminder and tips on how to be a better human and how to look differently at situations we encounter daily when humans are leaking.
This is good stuff, Bob! I usually do a Morning Litmus Test daily I get into traffic, to see how I'm reacting/responding to the "rude" drivers as I start my day. Tells me where I need to get to on Bob's dignity scale, for sure. I've got my own cracks, for sure.
Driving is one of my biggest Dignity Challenges!
ALWAYS so well-spoken. Wisdom you shared when I was in college still comes to mind. Such an important and timely message.
Thanks Sarah!
MRI- most respectful interpretation
That is definitely a good reminder for me.
Thanks! Some have called it naive, but it is a choice, and I would much rather live that way!
Your reference to MRI reminds me of the “unquenchable spirit of goodwill,” I was first challenged to strive to have for my students and families some time ago now… still growing.
Me too!
Incredible message!
Thanks so much!
Wow, this is great stuff! How easy it is to be the one to put others down, intentionally or not. Hope we can all take a minute to examine our interactions with others and treat each other how we should be treating them.
Thanks Aimee!
Inspiring view on treating others with dignity.
Reminds me of Stephen Covey-seek first to understand, then to be understood.
I am happy to be mentioned in the same sentence!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
