  • Forest management is not one size fits all. Different forest types, different ownership and different objectives create a vast mosaic of forest management across the Oregon landscape.
Communities throughout Oregon are prioritizing the idea of managing their forests against the threat of fire. In Southern Oregon, fire has become a huge threat, and communities such as Wagon Trail Ranch are coming together to collectively manage their community to make it more resilient to fire. Cutting trees, removing excessive ground fuel and creating fire breaks are all done in an attempt to slow the spread of fire, should it arrive. It takes many people working together to convince an entire community to agree on a management objective.
This is one of a seven-part series exploring the wide range of forest management styles, and the combination of experts and resources that landowners use to achieve their forest management goals.
