Thanks so much! I've been wanting to do this but didn't have the knowhow. If I do a livestream with the P900 I will give credit to this video and leave it linked in the description. Thanks again.
@FLAT EARTH BROTHERS One thing I may not have mentioned in the video, make sure power saving mode is turned off on your phone, if it's on, it won't allow apps to run in the background. I had turned power saving mode on and forgot about it, tried to live stream and it would not work, took me a while to figure out what the problem was.
@@ronhagberg Thanks so much for this. This is exactly what my friend and I have been looking for. However, we are having this issue you mentioned that the internet stops working as soon as the camera connects with the nikon WMU app on the phone. Were you using an iphone or Android phone? Also you mentioned that you have to start the live stream before you connect the camera to the Nikon wmu app. Can you elaborate on that.
I use an Android, I found that if the power saving mode is on, then it won't let 2 apps run at the same time. You also have to use your cellular network to do it, your phone has to use wifi to connect to the camera, so if you are near a wifi signal that you normally use, you will have to make sure the phone is not trying to connect to that network.
@@ronhagberg Hmm! Really appreciate your. We just spent several hours researching this. The challenge seems to be that even with both wifi and mobile data turned on ( we even set this by turning on developer mode and choosing Always Keep Mobile Data On option) - the phone will only use either wifi or mobile data but cannot seem to use both simultaneously. I am mystified how the DU recorder app is using mobile data when phone is connected to a wifi and wmu app is usig that wifi connection. All posts on simultaneous use say that it's not possible unless the app is designed specifically to do that - like Data Booster app. Maybe DU Recorder app is built ground up to access mobile data even when wifi connection is on... Any tips much appreciated...
Thank you for posting this. Have you had any success using the network setting to connect to a smart TV? Or will it only work using the Nikon apps? If so, it seems a bit pointless having the network setting available in the P1000 settings menu. btw I guess you could also use the TeamViewer app to do the same as you have done here.
I haven't tried connecting it to a t.v. or computer. I just thought this would be useful when people are live streaming out in the field, no extra gear to carry and it's free. I would like to see a developer make a better app, but this works for now, until I can figure out a better way.
Another question you might be able to answer. I want to shoot and record using IR at times. Is this possible? Or will I have to commit to getting the sensor changed? I am out in China so not many people to ask these questions. We have a massive area in GZ that has so many stores selling all things media. But no one thus far speaks english.
I had my p900 full spectrum converted, which is basically just removing the ir cut filter that is in front of the sensor, then you use filters over the lens, i have a 720nm and a 950nm filter for ir, if I want to shoot normally with it, I would just need to get an external ir cut filter, but I just use my p1000 for normal photography now. I sent my p900 to a company to have the filter removed, there are videos on doing it yourself, but I didn't feel comfortable trying it. Here is a video I made about it. czcams.com/video/1ja4MOsa5F4/video.html
Oh just subbed so I can watch your video. Would I be right in thinking you are a fellow Globe Skeptic? The IR is for a 60 mile straight shot back along the pearl river delta to try and spot the Canton tower. I fractured my foot back in September so was unable to do it until it heals. I need to climb a 200 meter high hill to avoid obstructions so if I miss this winters window the humidity will kick back in and I will have no chance.
can you do a livestream using the p900 and use it as a replacement for your built in webcam or external webcam? like for using in applications such as skype or zoom and related websites?
Ron Hagberg oh thats unfortunate..thanks for the reply btw..i was just wondering. Does the nikon coolpix p900 or p1000 have their own tripods? Or does it not? Also, what tripods or brand of tripods would you recommend buying just like what you have in the video?
I use a Manfrotto 290 light with my p900, and a Davis and Sanford Provista Grounder with my p1000, they both have fluid heads. I also have a motorized pan/tilt head to use with the p1000. If you don't have either camera, I would get the new p950, it has the same zoom as the p900 and the added features they put on the p1000, the p1000 is a bit large for carrying around, I am happy with the p1000, but if I didn't have it, I would get the 950.
