Thank you for regular trips down memory lane and much needed nostalgia of simpler times

This around the time we first got sky.
If I remember rightly it was £19.99 a month for the full package then plus the Oscar’s were worth watching not like nowadays!
I can remember how exciting it was when we went from 4 channels to loads of channels and it was worth watching. A real game changer.

It had to happen. Movie studios were increasing pressure on Sky Television PLC to scramble their output on Sky Movies to restrict viewing to subscribers in the United Kingdom only, due to geographical copyright restrictions.
If they hadn't, those movie studios would ask for the purchase price and geographical movie rights for the whole of Europe, which would be absolutely astronomically expensive.
Once Sky Movies was scrambled, good old Rupert Murdoch started looking at his other channels to see what he could make money from, and armed with this, he was not only becoming under increasing pressure to scramble movies, but sports rights owners and general programme suppliers were also putting pressure on Murdoch to scramble general programmes too, to again restrict access to those Astra satellite viewers in the UK.
It became obvious that advertising alone wouldn't pay the bills, and pay for the programmes.

0:51 did anyone who had this receiver and decoder have their fuse pop on the decoder because there was not enough space to allow heat to go
