This is a video fragment I found on a cd from my friend...
-
I think this is from the 'meeting people is easy' dvd
-
Actually, it was very difficult to make the video for 'no surprises'...
if this video is illegal, just tell me and i'll delete it from YT... - Hudba
Now I know why in the final version he smiles at the end.
Yeahh
Alka-Young he smiles because he finally managed to do a full minute.
The uncut version is here czcams.com/video/bzP1nY8JnQo/video.html
Wow, the combination of Thom's distress and the nauseatingly sped-up/slowed-down track makes this video really uncomfortable watching...
It loos like some very fucked up torture scene from a 50s horror movie..
The uncut version is here czcams.com/video/bzP1nY8JnQo/video.html
he did this when he smoked heavily... meaning he is a GOD for holding his breath like this
i thought the camera was slowed
@@fastbreak3837 huh
@@fastbreak3837 it is
@@fastbreak3837 it is but he still wasn't able to hold his breath that long..
thom nearly drowned for art. what a guy!
How long exactly?
He did it before on MTV after singing Anyone Can Play Guitar lmao

I liked how thom just kind of went all out in anger at the end. Radiohead is probably one of the most, if not the most "human" bands, if you understand what I mean, kind of like Nirvana.
100%
nirvana wasn't THAT human. Kurt Cobain on stage was way different to real kurt in my opinion
@@sebastian4451 that's not at all what hes talking about. both are still very human bands, speaking on real world issues and common human issues.
Henry Rollins described underground music as something you can touch and I know Radiohead and nirvana aren’t underground but they’re alternative and do have a very close feel to them unlike Van Halen or various pop stars
@@sebastian4451 you should check their first lives in 89, he was perfect, he was happier than the last years
he's so fucking pissed its scary like holy shit
Poor Thom. The guy looks so miserable that I just want to give him a hug and a cookie. And a towel.
It's nice to see him in the real video grinning his face off at finally having gotten it right :)
Thom is VERY brave. He did this just to offer us a great video clip... thank you, man
Shit man your comment is 12 years old..... probably I was only 7 or 8 years old when you wrote this comment.....woowwwww
"For Yorke's safety, the video was filmed at high-speed and played back in slow-motion." - from Wikipedia article, which used the book Exit Music: The Radiohead Story as the reference.
That is my favourite moment of the video.
Until recently, I didn't realise the music had been speeded up during the totally-submerged portion -- I thought Thom Yorke had been given training by those "free diving" people!
It physically pains me to watch this and see Thom struggling to hold his breath long enough for the water to recede, endangering his life in the process. I can't stand masks or anything over my face, so I can only imagine what it was like not only to have that heavy device on his head, but also having it fill up with water. How positively suffocating and horrifying that must have been! I could never, ever have done this. Can't blame him, really, for getting pissed off...how many times must he have had to endure this before they got the "right" take? The smile on his face in the finished product speaks volumes. How brave you are Thom, and how I admire you!
They were either having trouble with the glass getting foggy or the music cue not speeding up and slowing down when it was supposed to. So yeah I would be pissed as well.
Kristin Pawlewicz From what I've heard, it was around 50 takes before they got it right.
Kamek Koopa How frustrating -- and traumatic -- that must have been!! Poor Thom!
That was his last possible attempt, too. If he messed up that last take they would've probably scrapped the idea for the video entirely. The smile in the end has so much more meaning once you learn about the filming.
+Connor Smith Really? I've never heard that.
Looks like bloody torture.
There's something about this video that gives me the absolute chills.
If you watch the full video he's grinning after the water part
Makes a whole lot more sense after watching this
Haha, this explains his satisfied smile at the end of the finished video.
poor guy. I never realized what a feat filming that video must have been!
In the final video he holds his breath for the second chorus and the middle eight. Like it shows here, in order to make it possible for him to do, they speed up the song for that segment. It compressed the time he had to be under water.
He hated this part for sure, damn
I couldn't help but laugh when Thom flipped out at the end.
Wooww your comment is 13 years old....I was probably 7,6 years old when you wrote this.....damnnnn
@@harryg5566 Lmao I didn't even remember leaving this comment, thanks for this! I was 17 when I wrote it, what a trip down memory lane.
@@PayneToTheMax woww🤣 haha so strange I discovered Radiohead just year back. your CZcams acc is 15 years old, since you commented 13 years back and now current time whole generation is changed haha now your probably 30😵
@@harryg5566 Haha yep, I'm 31 and still here! I created my CZcams account back in 2005 when the website was just created, I was just in my second year of high school and CZcams was definitely quite a bit different then! I think I first started listening to Radiohead in 2003 when I was 13/14. Thankfully I still feel as young now as I did then!! Lol 😁 That's awesome you've discovered Radiohead, their music definitely never ages!
@@PayneToTheMax haha loved that....back in 2005 I was probably 4 years old.....we used to live in small cottage type house , no phones , no internet, just one blury damaged T.V I was just a kid ,used to have big financial problems back then damnn I can't recall those low feeling phase.... strange
Beats CGI to a pulp.
Thom is a very enduring character, I think this is all legit.
Actually being in the water means something in the song as you can hear "Let me out of here" in the lyrics.
He got really frustrated didnt he
yeah man
They should have used that last take. Very viseral
Thanks so much for posting this, I love Radiohead and always loved this bizarre video. Love the end take where he totally loses it haha!!! Thom Yorke is a legend!!!
"There's a great scene in Gee's 1998 documentary on the band, "Meeting People is Easy," in which a group of British TV journalists are discussing how awful "No Surprises" is while watching Gee's video for it. In this work within a work, they naïvely wonder about how Yorke can hold his breath so long as Gee humorously intercuts footage from the video's shoot, revealing the camera tricks that should have been apparent to them." - Directors of Radiohead article on Zimbio.
Poor Thom, he almost died making the video of Karma Police because of, "A Handshake of carbon monoxide" and for the music video of No Surprises he's about to drown. Take it easy Thom! We don't want to lose you. You're to much of a creative genius.
Damnn your comment is 13 years old 😵
hi. ur, i just go reccomended this 14 years later lol
wow that was extreme...
There's a lot of sad irony in this considering the subject matter in No Surprises.
I would say that he's pretty damn surprised.
"Let me out of here" o_e
it would scare me to death too, i get very claustrohpobic. (excuse spelling)
O.O
Thom, te costo mucho hacer el video, y al final salio como querias, por eso sonries al final de la cancion XD
gran trabajo ;D
Ahaha, when I watched this the first I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to laugh or not. I mean, it is funny in some ways...
Except I didn't laugh. I watched this in the context of the documentary it came from, and I was just too saddened by what he was going through at this time in his life.
What doc?

hola bro
i agree. god bless him.
I'm on the obscure part of youtube again
Not really
i feel so sorry for thom here. The OK computer era was difficult for him.
It's like he's our jesus
And for proof of this it was said in some book, but see for yourself. The music is played very quickly, however the crew in the reflection of the helmet is moving at normal speed.
haha, the song sounds so happy when it's sped up.
Like a nursery folk song. And this comment is so old wow!
@jd42305 You're right, as this video shows. Maybe holding your breath for this duration is possible, but asking the man to do it continuously would just be murder on his lungs. There's a lot of theories going on (of course) about how Thom nearly died etcetera, but judging from this footage he was just (understandably) frustrated with the whole process. And who could blame him, with this video captured in one single shot?
SethBlizzard now i understand how stressful the ok computer period must have been for thom.
being the face of a successful band, having to tour relentlessly, and on top of that putting his health in danger while doing these videos, like shown here and from the story i read of how he almost died of carbon monoxide poisoning while filming the video for karma police. i really feel sorry for all that thom had to endure.
for a minute there, he lost himself
Cheney's Gitmo Bay training video on interrogating terrorists.
01:06 xddd
Oh my god....wow.
Thom wasn't just under water...he was in helmet as well...try to do the same. I don't think it'll be very easy to hold the head into such conditions for a minute
Fun times!
oh and yeah it's easy to hold your breathe in air but with water everywhere it's a lot different.. and shit.. in a helmet as well..
1:05 When they put onion in my food
LMAO
When they put pickles in my burger when I ordered a burger with no pickles in
hahahahaha pobrecito Thom! se ve q le costo un huevo realizar el video!!! hahaha amo tanto como al final se emputa y empieza maldecir y a moverse x todos lados!! xD
Badass
Thats hot!
@MalfunctionOnline apparently its ALOT harder when you have cameras on you and alot of people watching etc.
Very difficult for mr. Yorke. Poor sir. Specially his cussing in the last try recorded here :(
Wow before XD!!! i don't forget this video
Yep
Luego de ver este video.......ya nada me sorprende
Me pertuba xdxd
Actually, no. It was shot all in one take, and the beginning of the video I am sure was lip-synched at normal speed, but for Thom's safety his helmet was filled quickly and that part was later slowed down.
Scary XD
:O
holy shit xD
cool man :P
This looks like something from DHMIS
Hence why this video/clip is shown...and the point it makes.
Cause he couldn't hold his breath that long. So they sped it up.
greaaatt
sí, lo es :)
lol it looks funny when he gets upset! :) (love Thom though)
heey, Thom es genial
nope. this is on the meeting people is easy DVD. he had to try many times to get it
this is a music video in itself
lol, quote. as i noticed the second time i watched it.
Sped up No Surprises mix with angry Thom Yorke made this video 'creepy'.
Primera vez que veo el making off del video y nunca pensé que haya sido tan difícil realizarlo. Se nota en su cara de ira a ratos.
at the end it looks like his head's gonna explode! XD
Some of them are creepy songs or something rare but are addictive and I love them
its kind of sad how frustrated he gets.
=[
LOL! That's the word! XD
Nightcore Version of No Surprise :D
the worst thing about this is you would have to start the whole song over because it is one continuous clip.

its mysterious.......im 1 years old and i can hold my breath under water for a minute to the best of my ability (i got the idea from this video), but Thom cant hold his breath for up to...what is that...20 seconds...and hes a fully grown man...mysterious...i still feel sorry for him...for the fustration :(...at least he made it through...that shows bravery...courage :)
No, you are wrong. He was only submerged for a short amount of time. They slowed it down. And don't use the "you can easily old your breath for that long" argument that some jackass used on me when he called me an idiot (not calling you a jackass), because holding your breath is COMPLETELY different from your head being submerged under water. There's a reason people trapped in cars under water drown in under a minute.
Ok
i think its sped up so that it can actually be filmed, if it was as slow as the music vid thom yorke would probably die
LOOL
That thumbnail bruh
He literally got put in a saw trap

you're kidding right.
Doubt it. I reckon most people would get the jitters in that thing.
