I'm an educator and I agree with this young man...The school system is very flawed and the people who make the decisions for our children haven't step in a classroom or haven't been in a classroom for decades...I rarely gave out homework unless it was to help students improve in writing or reading just for practice. Not really, but the system is so flawed in America because it's based upon the Industrial Revolution that is very, very old and a slavery way of thinking...
Everyone should learn the history of education. It's modeled during the Industrial era after the factory modeled education system. They picked it up form training factory workers. Their goal was to train docile (dumb down and easy to manipulate) tolerant, civilized society. Basically they wanted a society of workers, not thinkers and inventors. You spend 40hrs in a school to prepare you for your job where you will spend 40hrs a week. The homework simulates overtime, programming you to be accustomed to working extra hours. Asking permission to use bathroom and them telling you when you can and can't eat, is programming your acceptance to authority and becoming docile. The same way your job tells you when you can take a break and when you can eat. The repetition I'd preparing you for the same. And if you don't fall in line they are preparing you for jail at the same time. In jail you are told when to eat, when to bathe, when to sleep, walk in a neat row like you did in kindergarten and 1st grade. You are taught to obey authority. Even the food you eat in jail is the same as school. The bell is a conditioner. Just like in factories it lets you know of break time, in jail it lets you know when to get up to work and sleep. Even in school suspension is jail preparation for isolation, a punishment in jail. The system is twisted and disgusting. I homeschool my child. And I don't even go by whatever bull shit guidelines they set up. She learns what she wants to learn outside of math and reading. I teach real world history, not that watered down BS, with a focus on African and Hebrew history. I teach philosophy and psychology. She learns Herbology and the medicinal use of each plants. She learns agriculture and how to grow food. She learns biology and anatomy and how to spot and treat different diseases. She is only 11 and more knowledgeable than most doctors I know. It's high time we teach our own kids instead of preparing them to push someone's clock and jail.
The modern American school system is over 100 years old maybe 150. But the school system was made the way it was so the people that would be pumped out of school are factory workers.

I understand why things like English and History are mandatory, but advanced math classes are wastes of time and money. The system doesn’t prepare us for the real world. Schools are just tools to weed out all the students who will put themselves through hell just to graduate. After they come out of high school, they have no idea how to do anything related to home economics since they spent 4 years reading centuries old literature and practicing calculus. There is literally no consideration for the individuality of each students and aspirations are not factored in at all either.

Not to mention the homework problem feeds into the getting up early problem. This is because there is often so much work to do that students have to stay up extra late to finish all of it. Then they are sleep deprived because they had to stay up late to finish all their homework, but then still had to get up early for the next school day. And it's a vicious cycle up until the weekend where you lose part of your weekend catching up on sleep you missed throughout the rest of the week prior.

I am a parent of a 24, 21,15, and 7 yr old. I have asked myself these questions for a long time. When does a kid get to be just that? a kid? The school system expects them to participate in after school activities (to bring money of course) yet sends them home with work to do and crap to study. When do they get family time or kid time or more importantly time to sleep? after sending them to school as long as an adults work shift and exhausting them and forcing them do much on their young person. why? how? it all comes down to money and the parents that are OK with this just want a babysitter. My kids have gotten sick Literally every two weeks of the past 2 school years due tho their immune systems being outta wack because of covid. and I take them to the Dr each time and I'm told the same thing "we have seen so many kids get sick this often and this is why" they make your kids a excuse and maybe they didn't predict correctly so you keep your kid home as long as they are fevering or vomiting etc. yet if you don't have that Dr note they threaten you with truancy. So I can only think they expect you to send your baby bleeding from the eyes so that school can get their "good attendance" bonus money....sorry. I hate USA public schools and don't think teachers should be paid much at all...

Here in Greece, we gotta learn the god damn ancient language, which is one of the most useless subjects, and almost no one understands it. But we only got 6-7 hours and no 8 hours. Sometimes, when the homework is hard, i don't even do it. As a Greek, i understand the pain of other people who are trying to learn geometry with the god damn greek letters and hear me out. Geometry is useless in life unless you gonna build something. But here in Greece, high school isn't necessary as well college.
At my school they don’t give you homework on Friday and special days and important testing 🎉 also sometimes teachers think we are giving them a attitude but we are just trying to explain ourselves.
Every day that I have to wake up early to school knowing that I’ll waste my time and get back tired to even do anything that really matters to me (playing music) feels horrible. I feel like I wasted my entire life doing something I was forced to and that was even taking time and energy for my free time in which I can actually do what I truly want. Also grading sucks, if I have learned something from piano is that in music classes they don’t give “tests” because I don’t need to be graded to show that I’m progressing. If we learn from our mistakes then why are they always punishing us or making us feel bad when we fuck up?
School ends at 3:10pm for me,but if you do all your homework on that day,then school work ends at about 6-7pm,just in time to have dinner,have a shower,get ready for bed and do what you want for 4 hours.Even doing a bit of homework on a day,it will still take you about and hour if ur like me.

That does make sense but it’s possible to change sleep schedules And these are children and teenagers who don’t always fully understand the importance of sleep And we need more sleep than adults do, we need 10 hours usually so we have even less free time and as a kid or teen it’s way easier to procrastinate on sleeping bc we already barely have any free time to play so we will just sneak on our games in the middle of the night bc we don’t wanna sleep since we know once we wake up again… hell will restart It’s not necessarily the same as work bc work is usually supposed to be something we enjoy, in school we’re forced to learn and work on stuff we’re not interested in In our career we should usually enjoy it if we actually enjoy it although it’s true sometimes we need breaks

Here in Greece, we gotta learn the god damn ancient language, which is one of the most useless subjects, and almost no one understands it. But we only got 6-7 hours and no 8 hours. Sometimes, when the homework is hard, i don't even do it. As a Greek, i understand the pain of other people who are trying to learn geometry with the god damn greek letters and hear me out. Geometry is useless in life unless you gonna build something. But here in Greece, high school isn't necessary as well college.

At my school they don’t give you homework on Friday and special days and important testing 🎉 also sometimes teachers think we are giving them a attitude but we are just trying to explain ourselves.

School is to prepare you to be a worker
Every day that I have to wake up early to school knowing that I’ll waste my time and get back tired to even do anything that really matters to me (playing music) feels horrible. I feel like I wasted my entire life doing something I was forced to and that was even taking time and energy for my free time in which I can actually do what I truly want. Also grading sucks, if I have learned something from piano is that in music classes they don’t give “tests” because I don’t need to be graded to show that I’m progressing. If we learn from our mistakes then why are they always punishing us or making us feel bad when we fuck up?
School ends at 3:10pm for me,but if you do all your homework on that day,then school work ends at about 6-7pm,just in time to have dinner,have a shower,get ready for bed and do what you want for 4 hours.Even doing a bit of homework on a day,it will still take you about and hour if ur like me.

I have school for 6hrs a day. Also where I’m from we don’t have saturdays as holidays. Only the 2nd Saturday of the month is a holiday.

In my school I am forced to wake at 7 to 8 am and 9 am we start classes and lunches are literally pre-made like chips , juice , sandwiches (even tho it looks expired) and in 8th we have a dickhead teacher that literally treat 1 student like a prince while the rest are treated like absolute garbage like how I was treated but anyway my school give rules that are somewhat dumb like no caps like nigga if u were bald this rule is made for you and no hoodie cap on cuz even there is super strong air conditioning at my face I'm forced to not wear my hoodie cap just to never protect me.
Btw in 8th grade they taught us about dicks and lung system and digestion system.

And we need more sleep than adults do, we need 10 hours usually so we have even less free time and as a kid or teen it’s way easier to procrastinate on sleeping bc we already barely have any free time to play so we will just sneak on our games in the middle of the night bc we don’t wanna sleep since we know once we wake up again… hell will restart
It’s not necessarily the same as work bc work is usually supposed to be something we enjoy, in school we’re forced to learn and work on stuff we’re not interested in
