This video goes into how I am shifting my nutrition to support balancing my hormones and getting a regular menstrual cycle. Your food plays a big role in hormone balance and eating in sync with your cycle can make some major shifts to reduce PMS and promote a regular cycle. If your periods are irregular or you suffer from PMS or any other period-related issue, eating for each phase will help you feel so much better!

Totally have gotten into eating for my cycle because of you. Thanks girl 💕
Thank you for being a fantastic resource on CZcams! I’ve been trying to regulate my cycle and get better at regular exercise. Recently someone told me I should aim for 14% body fat (which I don’t want) and seeing you be at 20% fat yet super in shape has given me hope! I immediately subscribed to your channel and can’t wait to watch more of your videos on healthy women’s exercise, eating habits, etc!
Who told you to be 14% body fat? That's pretty lean. So cool to hear you feel inspired - how is the journey with your cycle and exercise going?
Was it a guy presumably wanting to date you? It sounds like typical "negging" where a guy goes from complimenting you like crazy to insulting you. They want you to "work to win them over." I believe in gender roles and for me, men have to win me over or I'm better off alone.
Love this video and all of your helpful info. Trying to regain my cycle so will try adding in some foods you have suggested and will look into ‘The Flo’.
This is such a great video Marissa. I love all the shout outs to Alissa Vitti! Your thrive box looks absolutely delicious!
Glad you're having fun and doing well, Aunt Marisa! The weather's beautiful here, too!
Yes it’s been soooo nice!! But i’m also looking forward to rainy season 😍
Just discovered your channel and im obsessed
Thank you for this content!!!
Ouch girl! You foot cut looked painful! 😮I find these types of videos soo interesting in learning about eating around our cycles and enhancing them! Looking forward to incorporating these tips into my diet! 🙌💕
Aunty! I'm 17 and I love your videos, I love science based answers about fitness and I think that is the key to understanding your body better!! Thanks alot❤
get wet shoes!! They are special shoes (kinda like socks with rubber soles) to stop foot injuries when in the water!! I have them for the beaches here in the UK, you can still swim in them :)
Eeehhhh honestly I’ll take the occasional foot stabbing 😂 The more things I have to do to get ready to go in the ocean, less likely I’ll be to go lol
@@MissFitAndNerdy tevas! wear them to the beach and into the water directly!
Thank you for another amazing video! It will be amazing for sure 😍😊
Thanks so much for being so early!! I appreciate either 💗💗
That was a good video and good info.
Reproductive health is so incredibly important, especially for folx who menstruate. Birth control led me to learning about and listening to my body, and I'm so glad it did
Love you included folx in the conversation! It’s great that Marisa does this too
That's so awesome to hear that your journey with birth control lead you deeper into your body. I hope things are going well for you!
GUURRLLL!!! Your curly hair in this video is LIFE GOALS ❤️ !!!! gorgeous curls ! ❤️
Thank youuuu!!!
So happy to see this! I'm planning to come off hbc myself in January, so I'm rereading Beyond the Pill and planning to do a bit more reading over the next few months. How have your doctors responded and have supported (or not) your decision to stop hbc?
Honestly, I didn’t consult any doctors about coming off the pill. I was only on it for birth control purposes, not to “treat” a medical condition, so there wasn’t too much concern. I did talk to my NTP about it but she knew that I knew what I needed to know so it was more just for reassurance lol. During my last annual physical I told my doctor that I had come off birth control and he had no comment 🤷🏼♀️
Just found you today. Oh my goodness. I am like a sponge today for all this knowledge I have needed in my life. Thank you so much. Looking forward to implementing these with my daughter and me.
omg thank you so much! So happy you're learning from my content 🙌🏻
@@MissFitAndNerdy oh hi. Yea yes I am indeed. Anything make me understand this body of mine I welcome with open arms.
Cannot get over your hair, its beautiful😍.
Marisa! Thanks for another highly informative video. :D I love your content!
Burning question: Where is your bed frame/cabinet unit from? I’m in the market for an upgrade myself... and I think yours looks just so functional + visually-appealing! I want something like it. :)
Thanks so much! It’s from ikea :) I think the bed is the Malm frame. I don’t remember what the shelves are but I got them about 10 years ago so there’s a chance they don’t have it anymore :(
Ouch! Thats why I personally wear water shoes for the beach always 😎 might not be super cool but 🤷♂️
Eh, The more things I have to do to get ready to go in the ocean, the less likely I will be to go. I’ll take the occasional foot stabbing if it means I go in the ocean more hahaha
Awesome!! I never tried seed cycling! Coolio!!
It’s super interesting and has made a huge difference for a lot of women!
Try to roast the seeds in a pan without oil and toss them in your salad or any other dish. It's delicious. And you can do it with all the seeds ( sunflower, sesame, pumpkin...) 😉
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about your foot! I hope it’s healing well! xx
It was fine! Haha. Couldn’t even see a mark after I showered and washed it off
@@MissFitAndNerdy Haha! That’s good to hear! x
Omg Fix and Fog from NZ I love that nut butter!!! All their nut butters are amazing!! The everything one is a bit seedy for me but their crunchy pb is to die for. ❤️❤️
It’s SOOOOO good 🙌🏻🙌🏻 So happy I got it!
Your breakfast looks super yummy, but also sooo high in calories! Out of curiosity do you track how many calories are in that breakfast bowl? I would love to know. 🙂
Sunflower seed go on any salad, soup or even egg scramble... but works in sweets too... i cant think of something it wouldnt suit :D
When you see your Instagram account pop up in the video !! 🙈🙈 hope you enjoy the everything butter !!!
Is it possible for you to talk over the extreme effects of hormone imbalances and your period?
I agree with you that there is not enough education about how diet effects your hormones, and your overall mood. I suffer from PMDD and I have switched my diet around to a lot of the same things to try and balance things out as “naturally” as possible.
I don’t think the world understands women’s issues and I sincerely appreciate you being an advocate to a healthy lifestyle.
Oh. PS. The foods she’s talking about do help. I eat all of them to maintain a balance. It works. Trust me. You can also indulge on your favorite things sometimes. It’s called maintain a balance for a reason folks.
✌🏻💕🤘🏻
For questions like that, are usually direct people to the books The Period Repair Manual and Beyond the Pill. They both go in depth into the different drastic effects that hormone imbalances can have on the body and your period
ive heard of seed cycling but havent tried it on my own!!!
It’s really fascinating and has helped a ton of women! I don’t think it’s the most important thing to do to balance hormones but I think it can help
Hey Marisa,
Just want to know if you have any advice on not getting caught up with seeing food as it's calorie amount?
Thank ya, the way you eat is inspirational to me and I hope to be able to do it myslef one day.
This video about how to start intuitive eating might help you! czcams.com/video/0RUKQWfsxTU/video.html
Oh sister, I hope your journey with getting off "calorie counting" is going well. It was rough for me to get away from it, but once I did I noticed I was actually less hungry and had less anxiety when I did eat.
I’ve definitely gotten stabbed by the ocean before lol! I wear flip flops when swimming sometimes, or those awful Velcro sandals. Crocs if you’re a fan might work? Anyway lol
Super informative as always! While I’m not sure if seed cycling does much, I do know that these certain food help women and anyone with a cycle, so I just include them in my diet anyway!
Ive been tracking for 2 years now & DEFINITELY noticed a trend. First two weeks seems more balanced between fats proteins and carbs but typically more eggs, 3rd week a TON of protein in the form of meat which is something I didn’t crave while on the pill, also alwayyys Cruciferous brussel sprouts etc & “warm foods”, keep in mind I’m from Canada. Also methylation of estrogens have improved over one year of eating like this, checking via DUTCH test. & the 4th week is always easy to digest carbs like potatoes & squash, also tea weirdly enough lol. Its such a routine when I start my cravings I know what part of my cycle I’m in without checking. Also I muscle test when I’m about to go grocery shopping because like you sometimes it would be weeks later when my body actually wanted the higher carbs. Also when I started supplementing with magnesium the chocolate cravings left after feeling practically addicted to it😅 dutch test also showed I already had high dopamine so I really didn’t need any extra support for that from chocolate. Other than that I almost always feel better when following my cravings, our body’s are cool 😄
Ps love your videos!! 💗💗
Hey Marisa, is wanting to "reset" my hunger and fullness cues a good enough reason for wanting to embark on a 3 day fast? I've done a 3 day fast before a long time ago, and it helped with my hunger and fullness cues tremendously, but I dont know if this is considered a disordered approach to a 3 day fast. I dont want to lose weight from the fast but I feel like I am able to feel my fullness more after a fast. Any thoughts? Also greattt video!! Love your content sooo much 😋💜💙
Honestly, only you can truly answer that question for yourself. I recommend taking some time to really think about what you’re hoping to get out of it. If by “reset” your hunger you mean decrease your hunger so that you can eat less and lose weight, then that might not be the best reason to do it. If you’re currently feeling hungry all the time then fasting probably is not the best solution. But if you’re currently eating because you’re bored, tired, etc. but not really hungry and you want to break that habit then it might be helpful
@@MissFitAndNerdy Okay, thanks!!
Did you choose In the Flo vs Beyond the Pill for nutrition because of the nut suggestion being easier? I am trying to decide which books to buy and am similarly trying to learn more and help myself while off hormonal birth control for the first time in .. years.
I hope your journey is going well! Both books are great and have validated information. Hope this helps!
Are you tracking/weighing your food? Is it not overcomplicating nutrition by having such specific foods at specific periods?
Im not tracking or weighing. Eating specific foods to support your body isn't complicated at all imo :) It's the same as taking a vitamin haha. It's not like you're only limited to certain foods during certain phases--you just add more of certain foods to support the different hormone fluctuations. There's no hard numbers to hit or anything
id love to know what supplements your taking for ha, and what are the most helpful books youve read :)
thanks x
For hormone balance specifically? Or in general?
@@MissFitAndNerdy for hormone balance :) id b so grateful, i lost my period for 10 years because of anorexia, it came back in december and i had it regularly till june but since then its dissapeared :( i didnt know what i was missing before but after doing reasearch and knowing how 'complete' i felt when i had it in the spring i really want it back. thanks for the great contnt xx
For HA a brilliant book is 'No Period, Now What?' by Nicola Rinaldi 😊
What coconut milk do you use?😊🤔
Hi where did you get lively big bowl
you could try a menstrual cup, it is a game changer!!!!
It's really 💩 that here in the UK we don't have Thrive market!?!? 😠
Nothing
I know! It’s such a great service that it will be amazing when they’re big enough to expand internationally! But there still a relatively new company so it might take some time 😭
Can you do a topic on eating times/ calorie counting.
What exactly would you like to know about it? You might find episodes 6 & 7 of the Fitness Starter Kit helpful :) czcams.com/video/0OMvI5YFkw8/video.html
Where is your mug in 19:55 from?😍
not sure if you’re aware but there’s a typo in your thumbnail, great vid though 🥺😌
Ack! Thank you!!
Hi! Very informative video thank you :). A question: I have been trying to implement seed cycling as well, as I have come off the birth control pill as well, I am now 9 weeks pill-free but no idea in which menstrual phase I am in (haven't had a period yet) ;'). The first month of coming off the pill I followed the theoretical time line for the phases but then no period came, then am I now supposed to start from the theoretical beginning of my cycle again? If anyone has any tips on how to go about this that would be amazing!
Maybe try aligning with the moon cycle? How’s it going?
Hows it going so far? Virginia's recommend to follow the moon is a good idea! I hope it's going well so far!
About halfway through I started wondering why am on I watching this!? But I pulled through. I'd be super curious to know the calorie count of that smoothie. I steer clear of making smoothies because I will end up throwing everything but the kitchen sink in it and it ends up becoming a days worth of calories.
My smoothies tend to be 700-1000 calories! I personally love to have a big breakfast because it keeps me full and satiated and prevents me from having any cravings for the rest of the day. People often get scared of “wasting” their calories on breakfast and instead save them for dinner but fall into the trap of over eating at night because they have felt hungry all day. Whereas if they just had a bigger breakfast they would be a lot happier and be able to redistribute the calories a lot easier
Hi, could I get the book & authors name again please?
Thanks u are super inspiring!!!
It's ok I found it!!
Thanks
In the Flo by Alissa Vitti :)
Hi! I set aside my problem about my period as I don't know where I should start. And there's so much information that I couldn't digest.
I've heard that seed cycling would help to balance hormones, but couldn't afford to try it because my mom said that I should take more calories to get back my period.
It's been 7 months that I don't have my period and it is quite alarming as I've never experienced this before.
Can you help me to what I supposed to do?
I lost my period for over 5 years and did a lot of research. Check out videos by 'Acaseofthejills' in CZcams & read any info you can find from Dr. Nicola Rinaldi. Great info that really helped me.
Flax seeds and pumpkin seeds can go in oatmeal or a salad. Sesame/sunflower seeds are more salad terrain.... Ugh, you can't figure that sunflowers go great on a salad?????
I love how big your bowl is ! I love me big some portions too 😍 xx
Big bowls for big hunger 🙌🏻

Woke: Organic tampons. Bespoke: Menstrual cup. I'll never go back.
Yes! I’ve been using a menstrual cup for over a year now and I love it so much! But I like to keep tampons on hand too for certain circumstances :)
I’ve been using a cup for like two years, I WILL NEVER GO BACK EITHER. So revolutionary
Thanks I’ve been curious about trying these.
THINX undies are the best 🙌 never going back.
I had a pretty bad allergic reaction to menstrual cup 😬 it said medical grade silicone but I'm wondering if anyone else had experienced this... Also what brand are you guys using
I wish thrive did Canada. :(
Fingers crossed enough people from the US sign up and they can expand! They’re a relatively new company but hopefully they will be International soon🙌🏻
Girl you are great love ya to pieces but you just be funny sometimes. I'm like damn they probably just paying this girl to say this stuff about thrive lol
She was hyping Thrive before she had a code for it.
You should look into menstrual cups. I will never go back to tampons.
I’ve been using one for a year! But I also like to have tampons on hand for certain circumstances :)
