    I feel I am SO close to having balanced hormones. My periods ate getting better every time. I am doing everything on this list. But sleep is still my weakness. I just can't seem to stop waking up after 5ish hours of sleep.

    All of this info truly IS a gift! I am definitely going to try and see if changing how I exercise based on where I’m at in my cycle helps balance out my hormones a bit. I have been feeling out of balance for quite some time and I keep trying to make dietary and supplement changes but have never thought to change how I exercise!

    I’ve started having Maca in my morning porridge or shakes 5-7 days a week, and since doing that my period pains and pms is about half of what it was. I actually feel like I can function mildly better than previously. And I don’t have period pains ten days before my period 😅

    I cannot stress how important it is rest between exercise. If youre going to the gym every day....STOP. i used to be that girl who was addicted to the gym and having a hot gym bod. i completely burnt myself out... like badly. I got all the symptoms you mentioned and worse. Im still recovering years later. A body in a state of high cortisol is very damaging. I wish i could go back and slow down my workouts... women should only be working out 3 to 5 days a week depending on what youre doing. If yoga is part of your practice, thats okay to do daily esp if you include meditation which is very beneficial for lowering cortisol.

    Drinking my coffee after breakfast or late morning has REALLY helped the EFFECTS of caffeine (it actually works better), It's helped REDUCE the caffeine crash, I have actually MORE energy in the morning before the caffeine and after, and because I'm waiting till late morning it's easier to keep it down to one cup a day.

      Yes!! This can be huge for people who drink coffee and are sensitive to caffeine. The only time it’s ok to drink coffee first thing is if you plan on doing an intense workout right after. But I’m get real waiting like 1-2 hours after waking is much better for cortisol balance

      @@MissFitAndNerdy Yes it's definitely worth trying even for those who are not sensitive to caffeine because I was one of those ppl who could drink coffee dawn to dusk and still fall asleep fine and I felt good drinking my comforting hot drink all day but reducing the intake of coffee is good for the grocery bill and I found caffeine can be more targeted in its effects by being strategic now with my intake.

    Thank you for This! My PMS makes me so ultra sensitive I can barely be around any one for a week - very debilitating. I noticed eating processed food/sugar magnifies this. High density nutrition is key! Fruit instead of ice cream, ghee buttered toast instead of Doritos, things like that plus organ meats (I take desiccated + cooked fresh mixed in with ground beef) has been life changing. Praying everyone can work on this because it is tough to live with and I feel bad for my husband sometimes lol. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I use to have the most excruciating periods. Pms about two weeks before the period, I had awful hot flashes, nausea, stomach ache, headache , breakouts all I could do was curl up in a ball and cry u till it was over. Often times the pain would get so bad I would pass out or end up sleeping on the bathroom floor. I thought I was just doomed to have bad periods forever. I’ve had them since a preteen. Started my period at 8 and it’s been awful. My periods have completely transformed 🙌 I use to dred my period coming & I could never plan anything at this time.
    Things I did :
    Worked on insulin resistance
    Managed my blood sugars
    removed all sugar except natural sugars (I can have some every once in a while)
    Focused on 30 G protein per meal
    Added enough fat
    Managed digestion problems so they wouldn’t irritate the cramps more
    Periods use to last 7+ days and irregular
    Period is now 3 -4 days like clock work. Little to no pain. No hot flashes, outbreaks or stomach pains.
    Haven’t watched the video yet but looking forward to it. 🤗

    Hi, i love the advices you give and all of your videos! They really help me to understand what my body needs but I do need help understanding something. So I haven’t had my period in almost 3 months and I know that this is bad but I am not sure on what to do to fix it. Do you have any advice to help me on that? I know that one of the reasons is because I am not eating enough calories and I am trying to eat more. I am just worry that if I eat too much I will become fat.     I will deal with the crying for no reason the days before my cycle and moderate-intense ( but not crippling) cramps as well as bloating. I’ve had my blood and hormones checked annually the past few years and everything is great minus slightly higher testosterone by like 2 points. I train 2x a week only, but I do push myself at EVERY workout no matter what phase of my cycle I am at. I don’t eat a lot of processed foods and am not nearly as stressed as I used to be.
    However, I realized after this video, my sleep could improve, I could shorten my fasting window especially during my cycle, and I need to ease the training! These are not a lot but I had recently started to listen to my body more and realized how much better my periods have been! I hope my symptoms will keep improving but if not, I’d feel like I’m at a loss of what could be causing my PMS symptoms. Thanks for the info and I’d LOVE a video about carbs and hormone balance!

      When I had a higher stress life, my testosterone went through the roof and my gyn told me to reduce the carbs, increase protein and not increase too much fat (I’m guessing like fried foods though I don’t eat those much). Please give some info since I guess I’m prone to higher testosterone!

    I have been on the depo shot for six or seven years now, and I’m terrified to go off of it. For about 15 years, for the first three days of my period, I would get horrible, debilitating cramps with other symptoms. I’m talking about pain 100 times worse than any other pain I’ve ever felt. I lost jobs over it. It was absolutely life-ruining. I started on the depo and now I don’t get periods at all. Since then, I have learned more about which foods are good for my body and which are bad for my body. I exercise more regularly. But I’m still scared to death that going off the depo will land me right back in hell again.

      Hi Vivian. Thank you for sharing. When I was 13, my dad called my mom and asked if he should take me to the hospital because I was sick and in pain from my period. That was normal to me. Pain, sickness, fatigue. Usually just for 2-3 days. I went on depo too but had to go off it after about 1 1/2 years since the spotting wouldn't stop. I switched to the pill continuously off and on. This was over 18 years. I went off again in 2019 and was scared, too. But I was prepared. I did a lot of audiobook listening and found that a lot of the stuff I'd been doing since 2017 was actually really good for fixing my symptoms. Check out Period Repair Manual, 5th Vital Sign, and Beyond the Pill. Also, the tips Marisa gives are very helpful. I think the only thing I'd add is to really broaden the definition of stress to include as many things as possible and work them down. I believe it was addressing nutritional deficiencies as well as work-life-exercise stress that made it possible for me to have mostly pain free periods. I say mostly because when work got crazy or I didn't take proper rest from exercise, I'd have some pain. I cannot stress enough how much of a benefit and a joy it is to have a regular and healthy cycle. For example, on my birthday in 2021, I did a hard bike ride. The hardest I'd done in almost two years. I absolutely crushed it. I'd been training with my cycle and my period happened to fall on the same day. My back hurt after but speed+ elevation over a day of riding would do that normally. I'm sharing because it was other people sharing their stories of repair and redemption that encouraged me to approach things differently. I'm glad I did!

I have heard that staying on the shot too long can cause problems like osteoporosis, and I like to take care of myself as naturally as possible, so getting off of it is a goal. I just want to set myself up for success and not end up back where I started.

    I have noticed a difference in both fat loss and feeling more balanced when I have replaced some of my weight lifting days with walking. And it’s not ultra fast speed walking, it’s at a good pace and is comfortable. But, I still exercise once or twice every single day. I just wonder if this is still a stressor.

      If you're working out twice every single day, it's not the weight lifting, it's just the intensity. You're replacing a higher intensity workout with a lower intensity workout and your body is responding favorably. This is an indicator that you are overtraining and would benefit from scaling back overall.

    Thank you so much for thing information!!! Mom of 2, and after my having my second child, my cycle is so out of wack and I have them all, Ive lost about 50lbs the first yr and then started to get hormonal acne, my pouch super huge also gained 8 lbs. During my cycle it becomes super heavy. I’ve went the OBGYN, and the doctor said it is most likely hormone in balance and the first thing she suggest I should take is birth control pills, which I refused!

      Yup, the western medical default is to just prescribe birth control for any hormone issues. But HBC doesn't fix hormones--it just hijacks them and covers up all symptoms without fixing the root cause. If these tips don't help, I recommend reading The Period Repair Manual and Beyond the Pill

    Can you do a video on hormones while on an IUD? I've been on Morena for almost 9 months now to regulate my cycle, and I still get mood swings and bloating on my period.

      IUDs are just bandaid fixes. The body has many systems that work together to balance everything. An IUD doesn't fix the source of the problem and can actually cause more issues. Most doctors are not trained well in women's health, especially reproductive health and hormones, so they give bandaid "fixes". I personally would get that thing removed. I balanced my hormones by cutting out all dairy, wheat, and added sugar, eating primarily salmon and chicken, (studies on beef show it can contribution to hormone imbalance in women so i eat it only once a week), lots of vegetables especially cruciferous ones like broccoli, cauliflower, walnuts, flax oil supplements,at least 5000iu of vitamin D a day, a calcium magnesium supplement, tea twice daily ( licorice, green tea or spearmint are great for hormones), and eating vitamin C rich foods as it helps with iron absorption. Instead of white rice I eat brown rice and wild rice mixed together, and buckwheat soba noodles for stir-fry. Make sure to get plenty of healthy oils as those convert directly to hormones: avocados, coconut & flax are the best.

    I wish there was more information on balancing hormones after being postpartum. My cycle is still irregular and I definitely feel like garbage before it comes. It’s hard to take care of my sleep when I have a baby who has medical issues and has to still feed in the middle of the night. The headaches before my period comes have been horrible and I do take magnesium but since being almost 9 months postpartum everything is out of whack and not really helping

    Everyone talks about a high cortisol level being bad, but what about a low cortisol level? Mine is a five or six and my doctor has said that this can be the same as having to high of cortisol.

    Could you make a video that talks about unexpected hormone disrupters? I've heard that things like candles and cleaning supplies can negatively impact hormones. I'd love to know if these are things that should be on our radar. Unrelated to hormones, but I think it would be a great idea for you to make a video about alcohol consumption. I recently listened to the Hubermann Lab's podcast about alcohol and it was fascinating, but longer than many people are willing to listen for. Thanks!

    I am 46 years old, and every time I am about to get my period, I start getting a couple of pimples near my chin and neck. I know that is hormonal acne. Do you know what I am doing to cause that? I went to a dermatologist before but they just gave me medication and skin cream. I want to tackle it in a different way. I know my diet may be the problem but I drink a lot of water. Lol😂I think this video answered my question.

      I don’t know your lifestyle so I can’t tell you exactly what you might be doing wrong. But I think you answered your own question: your diet. Drinking water doesn’t flush out negative effects of a sub-optimal diet. You could consider trying to go paleo or following Whole 30 for 2-3 months and see what happens. Without knowing more, that’s where I’d start!

    If i weight lift and eat whatever i want pretty much but want to lose fat...is reverse dieting for me or do i need to cut first?

      Use the metabolism calculator on www.reversedieting101.com/ and see if you're eating as much as you could be. If you're eating less than the range it gives you, then I'd recommend reverse dieting before trying to lose fat. If you're in the range then there's no need to reverse diet and you can go straight into a fat loss phase!

    I suffer from migraine and about my period it is getting worse. Is there something to make that better? I train 4x a week, I am getting 10-15 000 steps a day. And eating healthy.

    I feel like I'm tired a lot, like more than probably normal people lol, so is that probably hormone issues? Also my sleep is terrible, I wake up several times during the night. I do take just the magnesium vitamin though, as well as some calming herbal chewies. Is there a difference between different magnesium supplements?

      The terrible sleep is likely causing the fatigue. It's possible you have a hormone imbalance too but I'd focus on getting your sleep in line (7-8 hours of quality sleep where you aren't waking up during the night) and see how that helps first :)
      There are actually a lot of different types of magnesium. Some are better for digestion, others for brain health, others for sleep, etc. So it's possible your magnesium isn't the right type for sleep. I'd try out the Ned magnesium and see how you feel! Just do it for a month and see if your sleep improves :)

If it tells you you’re eating enough to sign up for Fat Loss 101 then you’re probably eating enough!     Trying to understand the concept of hormone imbalance... Like, is aim of balance to reduce the amount of flucation in estrogen / pregesterone throughout my cycle? I.e to make the graph more like a straight line?
    Also how do I know if the supplements will balance the hormone in the right direction? As each hormone has its own high and lows throughout the cycle, won't timing be really impt? what if taking a particular 'rebalancing' supplement at the wrong point in the cycle ends up making the imbalance worse?

      No--healthy, balanced hormones *should* fluctuate throughout the month. Your hormones flatline when you take hormonal birth control and that isn't an inherently good thing (hormonal birth control just hijacks your hormones). "Balanced hormones" means having the optimal amount of each hormone, each day of the month AND having the optimal ratios between hormones throughout the month. Quality supplements that help balance your hormones shouldn't function by, for example, always increasing estrogen by a certain amount no matter when you take it. Instead, they should work by either increasing or decreasing estrogen depending on where you are in your cycle and where your estrogen should be. That way, if, for example, your progesterone is perfect but your estrogen is low, it will increase estrogen without affecting your progesterone. A good hormone balancing supplement will work *with* your body to bring all hormones to optimal levels depending on where you are in your cycle.

    I have had a complete hysterectomy about 3 years ago and my hormones are out of whack. I went to my dr for bloodwork and he said my levels of estrogen and progesterone are normal. How can that be? I have zero libido, gained weight and I’m cranky as hell lol. Is there anything I can do myself to help?

      “Normal” lab work doesn’t always mean everything is actually healthy. Your body is telling you something is off-listen to it. Unfortunately, I do not have enough knowledge of how to balance hormones post-hysterectomy. I recommend finding a functional medicine doctor or specialist who can help you with this. Might also be worth reaching out to Dr Jolene Brighton

    I don't get a lot of cramps or bleeding because of low oestrogen. But the period poops/bloating from the time of ovulation until and throughout my period are crazyyyy. 20 day cycles because of low progesterone. And on top of that, low testosterone... I got all of it 😂

    Not only do I get bad PMS (cramps, bloating, irritability etc) but also experience horrible cramps/bloating for a few days during ovulation😒 Basically starts at ovulation & symptoms don't end until a day or 2 into my period. What causes this?!

    a question about the weekly increase for reverse dieting..
    so if i wanted to increase my calories by 50 per week how much should i eat in a day?
    let’s say i’m starting at 1850 and i want to got to about 2500.
    would i increase my calories by 10 calories over 5 days? i’m a little confused on this part.

      5’8 140lb, slowed my metabolism so the weight I gained is all fat. weight train 5x a week, high protein, 2250 cal, not building muscle or losing fat 🥲 been doing this for a while too so time isn’t the problem. And I always get good sleep. I just changed my split bc I thought the training was the problem😫

    Lack of sleep is my biggest issue. My work schedule changes every week since I work a Dupont schedule.
    Week 1: Mon-Thurs 6pm-6am
    Week 2:Mon-Wed 6am-6pm and Fri-Sun 6pm-6am
    Week 3: Thurs-Sun 6am-6pm
    Week 4: Off
    I struggle with sleeping coming off a night shift. I barely get 4 hours of sleep per day. I try eyemask headphones and sometimes take melatonin but still can't get proper sleep.

      No, because estrogen elimination is still an important process. You’d be better focusing on boosting estrogen production instead of trying to trap estrogen in your body

    My biggest complaint for you is that you don't have a time machine so you can give all this information *mumbles* decades ago. At my worst I could have checked off every single bad loop in this video. What drives me crazy is that despite constantly letting my doctors know that my thyroid was a red flag (I have less than half of one) they still ended up recommending things that kept pushing it more and more into hypo territory. It feels like what you do with your videos is critically vital and they really helped me get my stress managed--I was having major panic attacks any time I had to be in traffic because the stress was so intense. And, getting my cycle on track after getting off doctor recommended bc was also greatly assisted by your videos.

    This is kind of a call into the CZcams void, but I'm desperate for help.
    I've been having debilitating cramps for like the first 1-3 days of my period for the longest time, and some days I'd spend a literal full day in bed. If anyone has had success with the methods in the video (specifically in the period pain department), please comment below!
    I weight train regularly, got a pelvic ultrasound (results came back normal), and eat a diet based on limiting intake of processed foods.
    Please help if you can--my current period cramp situation is not sustainable, and I'm tired of being in pain.
