I love how you talked about the fact that while there was joy you got from coffee, there were negatives that over time out weighed the joy. Those are exactly the feelings I had about my regular coffees, and why I decided to do a coffee fast from New Years to Easter this year. I've been looking forward to this video. My morning coffee ritual is near sacred to me. Considering how long I've started my days with coffee (nearly every morning for 10+ years now), I'm surprised my body isn't more physiologically addicted. On the occasional morning I go without coffee, I feel fine -- no headaches, no grumpiness, etc. But I definitely like the way I feel after my morning coffee, so there's some level of compulsion there. But more than the physiological effects of caffeine, I cherish the ritual. I love taking those five minutes first thing in the morning, just for me, to make my cappuccino -- measuring the beans, watching the shot pull, tinkering with the proportions, steaming my milk, pouring art. It's such a grounding and sensory experience. I used to work as a barista in an artisanal coffee shop and was (and remain) very passionate about the craft. I'm almost more emotionally addicted than physiologically addicted -- I crave the ritual, the artistry, the story that coffee tells. I'm okay with that emotional dependence, because it's a tremendous source of joy and the negative side effects are minimal and acceptable for me personally. But I try to remain cognizant of my caffeine intake and relationship, so that I'm mindfully pursuing this ritual.

It really should be noted that hot chocolate can contain between 5-20mg of caffeine per cup, depending on what kind you get. Sugar doesn't do that to me either. I dont get a sugar high or low. My friends though i did a few times after like 3 sodas cans (over 3 hours) as my arms were shaking (i have nerve damage or somthing due to my migraines an nerves in my neck/back).

I quit it 3 days ago because it seemed like no matter how much I worked out I wasn’t having any fat loss around my lower stomach. I read that it messes with your cortisol levels like you said and can cause the body to store fat. It also slows down the rate at which the body makes collagen and speeds up the aging process. I used to have a big cup of it every day but now I just have warm lemon water with honey or caffeine-free herbal tea and my lower stomach already looks flatter. Yay! 😁

I decided to quit coffee right after watching this video (I'd thought about it for a while but finally convinced me). So it's been almost 3 weeks without any coffee for me (only had 2 decafs). I quit it straight away because I've never felt dependent on the caffeine, I only drank it cause it's kind of comforting having a cup of coffee next to you while working (I'm sure a lot of people can relate). Anyways, I didn't expect such an improvement in my sleep! I have struggled with light insomnia ever since I can remember, but recently I've noticed such an improvement which I suspect is a result of quitting caffeine. I’m healthy so it’s just odd to gain 20+ lbs within 6 months!! There’s not that much info to coffee being negative but my gut feeling tells me otherwise. I usually have a mocha 3-4 times a week because it tastes good and can be an appetite suppressant. I also enjoy zero sugar mountain dew and the occasional pre-workout. I don't feel the need to cut any of it out because I make sure to not go overboard on the caffeine (and don't have it b4 bed). Also, I don't feel that it affects me negatively. But that's the importance of bio-individuality. Everybody is different and handles caffeine in their own way.

I found this video a few days ago when I was researching how to give up coffee. I have been addicted to coffee for about 20 years (I started drinking it as a kid)🙈😵‍💫.
I have hormone issues, high cortisol, the list goes on and on. Eating healthy wasn’t helping me with my issues so I knew I had to give up caffeine but actually doing it seemed impossible. A holistic doctor instructed me to give up coffee last year and I tried and failed. But then you mentioned that you switched out your coffee with organifi and I was like, that’s a good idea, I need to do this!!!! I was skeptical of the taste (I’m sooo picky) but it arrived and I tried it and I love it!!! I ordered the harmony cocoa and it’s perfect because not only does it help with hormones but it kinda tastes like a Starbucks mocha! I just ordered the pumpkin version too because I’m now obsessed 😍
I’ve been able to cut back on caffeine a lot and now I’m down to 1 cup of coffee a day. I drink the harmony when I’m craving a 2nd coffee. Currently dealing with a caffeine withdrawal headache and when that passes I’m going to stop drinking coffee completely. I can’t thank you enough for this video because it was sooo helpful to me!!!!🙌💗

Currently in the process of tapering off caffeinated coffee ☕️ it’s very interesting, but beyond the first cup of the day I feel the drinking of coffee is ritualistic (as you mentioned in the video) but also cultural. It feels so natural to brew a cup mid day and have something to sip on as I work or clean. But simply swapping that with decaf to make me feel like I’m not a complete slave to coffee has made a huge difference psychologically.

Good question! I have an entirely different relationship with those. I take adaptogens and supplements on as as needed basis (and sometimes just for fun) but I feel perfectly fine without them and could easily never take them. Adaptogens and the supplements I take aren’t physiologically addictive like caffeine so you can’t form a dependency on them in the same way. They interact with the body in a much different way. So my question is what are your thoughts on trying to quit caffeine slowly when you don’t drink it regularly. With soda, it could be caffeine or it could be the sugar. If you're not getting withdrawal symptoms, chances are it's the sugar. One of the most effective ways to get rid of a sugar addiction is to go 45+ days without any added sugar. I talk about how to quit sugar in this video: czcams.com/video/nfGMpbL4E6s/video.html. But an important note: if you have a disordered relationship with food and restriction is triggering for you then this obviously isn't a good idea

Hi!! So exciting that you’re getting into lifting! Here are some tips to start:
      - go light! If you can’t do all the reps, decrease the weight. If that means doing body weight then just do bodyweight! “Heavy” is relative to your strength. The actual number of pounds of weight doesn’t matter as long as it’s challenging for YOU. As you get stronger, you’ll add more and more weight.
      - start with just 1-2 set of all the exercises instead of what is written in the program
      - give yourself at least a day off between every workout until you stop getting sore then you can increase frequency if you want

I've never been a coffee drinker, but soda... that's another story. At my worst I was probably having 130 oz or more a day and that's mostly all I was drinking (no water, no juice no sports drinks). I've been attempting to quit off and on for 5 years. 2021 I really committed. I've tried slowly decreasing and cold turkey and cold turkey works better for me. Day one is easy, but day 2, oh boy! It was as bad of a hangover as if I went to the bar ad over indulged the night before. Day three wasn't as bad but still always felt off and it wasn't until day four that I felt more normal. I started Jan 1 (like any good resolution) and made it until about mid April before I caved. My issue is that once I start drinking the soda again it's like the flood gates open and that's all I want to drink. I tried 2 more times and made it about 3 months each time. I'm trying again this year, but thought maybe I'll just let myself have some on Sundays as a 'cheat day'. I had some last Sunday but haven't missed it much this week. I don't know if I'll have some tomorrow yet or not. I 100% agree the mental addiction and habit is so much harder than the physical, even going all to none. For me the craving always hits worse with certain meals. There's something about take out tacos that I feel the need to wash them down with a Dr. Pepper. Since I'm dealing with soda, my reasoning is also to cut out the sugar with the caffeine. This trying to be healthier stuff is hard!!
