I just can't get enough of Byzantine history.
Maybe it's because my country is filled to the brim with byzantine bureaucracy that I feel this attraction.
What country are you in?
@@FlashPointHx The Netherlands, a hallmark of bureaucracy since Napoleon visited us. Though it has it's advantages, we have much detailed information about so many things going back to like 1810.
I have always admired Belasarius and wondered how powerful his character presence/reputation was even in his own time. I am always baffled by the Gothic nobles offer to make Belasarius their king. For a man who was their adversary and did not have any overwhelming strategic advantage, it seems such a bizarre offer. Especially when they surrendered the Ravenna without any securing his promise to accept. Great epsiode!
He could have done a lot more if he was just properly supplied - a lot like Hannibal in Italy as well
I think he should have taken the crown. If Justinian was smart he could have had Belesarius as king using native solders and swear fealty to Justinian. Know the war caused a ton of damage to Italy. Justinian could have used the goths as a bulwark in Italy.
@@mattstakeontheancients7594 That would have been a smart move. Once the Byzantine had established themselves in the goth aristocracy they could have then taken full control at their leisure
@@FlashPointHx if anything else Belasarius was loyal to Justinian. Also do you think if the sassanid Byzantine war of the 600s wouldn’t have happened could the Islamic conquest succeeded as well as it did. Feels like as soon as the Islamic conquest started the Byzantine empire lost land on all sides not just the east due to the loss of troops to fighting the sassanids.

Honestly the best history series on CZcams, so well done from the graphics to the narration and the well researched details. The wait is well worth it. And that’s definately a big compliment considering there are several amazing content creators and channels out there, something about yours tho puts them a cut above.
Wow, thank you!
Are you from Greenland ?
@@fegeleindux3471 Nope - San Francisco
Agreed I love how thorough this has been. I won't remember any of those details 5 minutes after I've finished watching but I remember enjoying the hell out of it.
The mosaics and light effects you add are beautiful.
Thank you! Alexei, I think you're the first person to mention this
This channel is the best among utube history channels. Complete, well researched sagas. Perfect presentation.
Thank you so much 😀
Man, Nitin. The images of Theodora are great. Plus the mosaics are magnificent. It is cool that the mosaics have Justinian and Theodora bringing the gifts to the altar in Mass. I need to go there someday.
Another great video.
Thanks a ton Doyle - I actually signed up for a subscription from that AI site (thanks to people like you) - so hopefully can bring in more nice pics like that
@@FlashPointHx It would be interesting to see Isabella and Ferdinand's renditions from the AI site.
@@FlashPointHx why not mentions about Arisians and their beliefs6
Likewise! I want to see these in person some day!
Amazing video, this series is turning out great
Glad to hear it!
*Ah, yes: my monthly dose of history I'm already well versed in, because FPH does it best. :')*
Hey thanks !
@@FlashPointHx ofc, keep it up :)

Ohh and flashpoint, thanks bro
Hey same here, you can always be versed better though
Can't believe i found this series and watched the whole in just 1 sat night. Incredibly amazing.
You watched all 7 volumes in a night?! holy cow impressive
@@FlashPointHx yes i did all 7 in single night. It was sooo interesting and I fell in love with poor belisarius😆.
You are like critically underrated. You know, you should do a series on an Islamic Gunpowder Empire (Ottomans, Safavids, Mughals), it would go really well with you style of slow narrative prose overlaying a map with movements / slides of artwork. I actually have a ton of primary Mughal sources in my family's library which I painstakingly transcribed and translated as part of my thesis. If you ever do an Islamic near-Eastern or Indo-Persian Empire, do hit me up my man.
Well I likely be doing Ottomans soon enough - but Mughals are near and dear to my heart (I'm Indian) - will definitely do a series on them as well
@@FlashPointHx I had no idea you were Indian! Salam/Namaste brother, I am Pakistani.
@@ahmadtheIED Born in Kolkata ;)
Uauu! My father is Indian and of Mughal ancestry :)
Is your family library in Pakistan or have you taken it abroad?
Always worth the wait!

Welcome Back😁😁
Yes Sir!
You are so underrated
Happy that you liked this video Julian
Any idea why there would be a byzantine house in Wallsend hadrians wall.
I see you used all the Ai images 🤣
Love this series❤️ 🍻
Yeah - they just all had something to offer - I actually signed up for a subscription to that site
Excellent video. I think a case could be made that Belisarius was a Cincinnatus. Justinian used and humiliated Belisarius more than any other general. Seems that Justinian and Theodora were the Ron and Nancy of the 6th Century. The whole story of Justinian is heroic tragedy. Cheers from Tennessee
Hello again! Thats a really good point. Belsarius arose to the challenge, suffered set back, and then went into retirement without issue. His abilities could easily have made him a contender for the throne.
When I imagine this story in a cinematic way Al Pacino as Michael Corleone would have been a good choice for Justinian - maybe too obvious but a good starting point. They do share some personal traits and a similar character arc. Which actor past or present or which performance would you imagine? And what would be your choices for Theodora and Belisarius or anyone else ?
This is an awesome question. I'd do Patrick Stuart for Belisarius and Liv Tyler as Theodora.
I ADMIRE THIS CHANNEL!
Thumbnail picture of Theodora so beautiful 😘😍
IKR? The AI did well on this one

Boom💥
Fields of Cato near Utica?
Utica was along the Coast - this was south of Carthage
Justinian having a negative biography really needs to be taken with context. I'm sure Trajan may have been a PoS but he was an excellent statesmen and general... as portrayed by sources who endorsed him....
Anyone that makes it this high in the rank is likely a total cutthroat - its all about the PR

I read they never called themselves Byzantines, that it is western european invention to discredit them. Did they call themselves Roman?
Yes that is right - Byzantine was a 19th century construct
yes, they did!

West capital Rome
East capital costandinopolis !

Theodora did much for womens rights , such as separate incarceration during a most vexing day and age. Consider yourself blessed that you weren't alive back then. A quarter of humanity of the human race went kaput , as for the rest , if you can accept the gulag/ concentration camps images, then you would've seen the state of human race back then. Oh yeah, then there's the battles of whom I consider the last of the Romans Belisarius. Such is life.
Couldn't you do it without the silly animations ?
Which animations do you mean ?
I don’t much care for this John dude.
Religion sucks, and always does far more damage than good.
Its like what Mark Twain would say of Christianity - a religious ship that sails on an ocean of blood
These vids rule
is there any truth to saint mourice and Maximian
Remember if christianity wasnt to be warped or the bible distaughted there probably would not have been Islam tho Jesus did say '
Bible > John > Chapter 16 > Verse 13
◄ John 16:13 ►
Context Crossref Comment Greek
Verse (Click for Chapter)
New International Version
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
Meaning jesus knew his teachings would go astray and that Muhammad pbuh would be the one to teach and guide people back to the true belief of 1 God Almighty
muhammad was illiterate:
The Qur'an identifies the Prophet Muḥammad as al-nabī al-ummī (Q. 7:157-158). Muslim consensus has come to perceive this epithet for the Prophet of Islam as indicating conclusively that he was Muḥammad, 'the illiterate prophet.'
Now look what jesus said above about the 'spirit of truth would be taught what to say and read'
Muhammad and the Quran is the only book that talks of jesus and his pious mother mary
And its clear Jesus was talking of Muhammad to come!
