Ayaan Hirsi 40:36 'there was a proposition to yes impose the values of liberal societies on the incoming minorities' .
Makes one wonder the extent to which liberalism, ostensibly a doctrine of tolerance, can tolerate anything other than itself.
Surprised she was not challenged on this by Dr. Peterson, one of the most vocal advocates of freedom of expression in
our times.
You should have a discussion with Jordan Peterson
If he is sincere,he ought to have a civic discussion with a muslim scholar..DO it .
Javid Gamdi is there..I am making a video too..
Hi Moe.Just checking to see if this comment stays up. Cheers
Liberalism is a fallacy. It’s okay to voice their opinion or go with their values but when the others want to voice their opinion and want to hold on to their values, their ‘liberalism’ goes out the window.
@Dara Gafoor Moe is just not interesting, important or intellectual enough..... and bear in mind that Jordan has even had conversations with Matthew McConaughe. We all know that big fragile Moe is jumping up and down to get JP's attention. He'll be ignored, inshallah.
What is shocking to me is how hard it is for a man even as open and interested as Mr. Jordan - to even START to see the issue from a woman's perspective!! Ayaan Hirsi Ali.. thank you for speaking out for all women.
Hello. I am curious as to what makes you think he had a difficult time understanding the issues she very eloquently raises?
I came to exactly the same conclusion as you have here
Ayaan is one of the bravest people alive today and is a personal hero. Every time I hear her I am thrilled but deeply saddened that such a brave person is so viciously persecuted and under constant mortal threat. I hope she lives an extremely long and healthy life and never stops speaking out.
It is so soothing to hear someone to talk about serious topics without condemning and insulting... But just sharing the knowledge, experiences, facts and ideas about it. Thank you very much! I wish you both all the best! I really hope that our western society will stop hating itself and will find a way to be fair to itself and to others.
She`s fantastic.

@@TheInfamousHoreldo I’m sure it’s an aggregate of things I’ve heard before but that’s my quote yeah. Nothing is really original.
My parents were both soldiers, both were deployed to Bosnia, Somalia, and Afghanistan. The things they've seen have left them mentally scarred, to the point I have had to take emergency triage training for PTSD attacks. One of the worst was my dad having to watch a woman be stoned to death in Kabul by her family because she made the mistake of accepting a ride from Canadian soldiers who offered to help carry her groceries home. He also had to deal with people throwing their young girls in from of the tanks as they drove by. They were hoping the girls would be run over because when a child was hit by a tank the year before the Canadian Army gave the family a cow. They were hoping they could get a cow too. My mother had to shower in water that tested positive for human DNA. It was from the bodies of hundreds of Muslim people who were taken up to the lake nearby, shot, and then their bodies were fed into the lake through a woodchipper by the Serbian army to hide their war crimes. I work in a social science department that is very Liberal. don't know how to communicate to my academic colleagues that modern critical studies ideology seems so NAIVE AND TRIVIAL to me. How conceited can someone be to care about manspreading in a world of genocide through rape, legal slavery of women, genital mutilation, and no access to even basic healthcare?
I haven't been so repulsed by a youtube comment like this before...I want to believe this is false but I'm also from a part of the world where at least during my grandparent's generation, women were second class citizens and treated as property. But never this bad. Fuck.
JBP conversation and lecture are my best external tools for sorting out the state of things. Not that I have any idea what to do yet..

We have a saying in muslim community,"In the city of blinds, the one eyed person is king". Peterson is one eyed in this case and westerners are blind. Seriously, this is whom Peterson will learn about Islam from?
@@thebacheafghan Everyone has this saying. And Peterson talked to other muslims, Hijab and now also Hamza Yusuf. Boys flee the war leaving women behind and then they are surprised they can't find a woman for themselves... and they also don't understand that Europeans don't have this concept where burning a book is worse than killing a person. Why should we want to help them?
On the contrary..his 'interrogation' was completely unnecessary as we ALL know what the issues Ayan brought up.
Muslim male sexual assaults on European women..and the white european P.C attitudes flat turn a blind eye to it.
Ps..I'm a big JP fan..nevertheless he's out of his depth on this.
For the people saying he is out of his depth or that he shouldn't be taking to her about Islam. He is not taking on this conversation from a superior position of knowledge, he is learning from her which improves his depth of subject knowledge. Shame on you for thinking that is a bad thing.
This was an amazing episode. Many excellent points raised, some I haven't considered in much depth before. I know there will be people who try to paint the conversation as hateful, but it was blindly obvious that there was no hate from either of you, just insightful nuanced conversation on a difficult topic. I am grateful your podcast has returned, thanks again.
It is not about emplyment, it is about culture. Some cultures respect womens rights and some do not but we are not allowed to call out this problem, Thank you both for highlighting this. May God protect and bless you both.
You are so right. I have a dear Buddhist friend who made the disastrous decision to become the fourth wife of a rich Malaysian Muslim. She's beaten regularly and is now essentially held prisoner, with no prospect of escape. No bank account. No ID. Closed circuit cameras everywhere. His Filipina wife also rebelled and has now disappeared. islam condones this.
@@petermathieson5692 Islam condones beating up a person? You don't have a correct image on what you're talking about except what you hear from biased people.
@@megaboy3296 4:34, and before you try to downplay the translation of 'to beat', the same word is used 8:12, clearly meaning 'to strike'. And this is just about wives, don't get me started on what islam allows to do to homosexuals, ex-muslims, jews or 'those that bring corruption on the land'. No biased people needed, just the core texts.
@@antimonycup7066 yes please I want to learn from you what the verses in my religion mean. You know if there's one percent chance you seek the truth and are ready to search and make effort, I'll gladly explain what these verses actually refer to in the first place. You threw random **** like Islam hates the Jews. We're ordered to respect the people of the book(including the Jews) and everyone as long as they don't mean harm to us. Again the verses you might see online lack interpretation because they're out of context. Do you think an ignorant person can explain Einstein theories? That's the same with an ignorant biased person talking about Islam without really studying "the core". Lastly you mentioned homosexuality but what about Islamophobia?
@@megaboy3296 By the fruit one can know the tree. You can't fool me. You are entitled to your interpretations, but the real world results of your religion are clear as glass.
As a dutch person I have the utmost respect for Ayaan. It's a shame she needs protection just for speaking her mind and most probably speaking a large dose of truth.
Thanks for this interview Jordan. Being 39 years old its weird to speak about hero's but if there is anything like a hero, you fit the description pretty well.
@@talmadhoun I appreciate every comment but if you make statements like this in reply to me don't forget to elaborate. What has she been lying about? Who did she deceive and how?
@@vampironl shes pretty much lied about her origins and makes lies of islam just to make it look bad
She’s well known to have lied in the past to get what she wants and then come up with excuses to defend them. Besides that, I really would consider listening to what she she has to say but just because she comes from a predominantly Muslim country doesn’t mean she has any kind of scholarly knowledge about the religion and she really doesn’t have any background in Islamic knowledge. The only reason she is given a voice is because she’s a black Somali woman and thus she will get away with that white old men wouldn’t be allowed to say. You have to do yourself justice and make sure you get your information from someone who genuinely knows what they’re talking about and not someone who gives a few interviews in order to sell her books. And that’s honestly a sincere request. Always take the time to verify what you hear and are told. Then after that it’s up to you to believe what you want to believe. But just remember to be true to yourself. Sorry if this sounded a bit like a lecture :)) Peace.
@@hggh4867 No problem, i don't take it as an insult. And i 100% agree that information needs to be verified before you take them as truth. She did indeed lie about her origins and i can't think of any excuse for that. She has given some reasons but those are pretty weak.
You might be right she doesn't have any scholarly knowledge about the religion. That could be true, i don't know. I do know she is pointing out a problem that I can see in daily life around me (I can only speak for the Netherlands of course as this is where I live). And that's not something we just observe but it's also something statistics point out. We can't deny there is a problem. I think this is where Jordan comes in as he asks very good questions about causation and correlation. And i think we can have a whole debate about that, and maybe that's a debate we -should- have.
I won't dare to blame the Islamic religion for this, maybe its misinterpretation by groups of individuals, maybe its a result of a clash between islamic religion and western culture, there are so many variables which makes it very difficult to get to the bottom of the problem.
But i do think it is time to get to the bottom of this problem, and i can't help but to respect Ayaan for putting this on the agenda as she is risking her life by doing so as this issue has been swept under the carpet for way too long.
There is a Muslim reaction to this by saajid. You should watch it .
Ayaan's story is a story of millions of women... The difference is that she could tell it high and loud. Thank you for this great video.
She falsified her entire story to get an asylum in the Netherlands. Watch "Holy Ayaan" by Zembla, it's an entire documentary exposing her lies.
"It is very difficult to assimilate if you are not confident in your own values" Oh my god, this woman is AMAZING!!
@@thatguy1822 the West hates the west. According to westerners, everything the west does is racist, it's history is racist, colonial and hellbent on exploiting others. Nothing is worth keeping, not its statues, not its heroes... Nothing. Westerners only find one thing worth saving and fighting for: everything but their culture. And there is a perfectly logical explanation for that: WWI and WWII (WWII being a consequence of WWI). After all the blood, death and destruction of the 2 wars, westerners don't believe in their culture anymore. They don't believe it can bring anything good. They lost faith. They stand and scratch their heads as to why foreigners don't integrate into their culture. But the truth is, they don't want to integrate in their own culture themselves...
@Med AYT18 I watched Mohammed's response and I found a lot insults, not many arguments. I do not pretend to know Islam, but however, I do know Europe, America and the West, very very well. Mohammed is promoting and defending Islam. I respect that. He should defend his people and he is right to do so. The point is, the west has lost the will of standing-up for itself. A westerner is incapable of defending his people in the way that Mohammed did. If you cannot defend the legacy of your ancestors, you are not a worthy individual in my opinion. That is my point. And you know what? I think that Mohammed Hijab would totally agree with that.
@Med AYT18 I think that objectivity is very hard to achieve for humans. That's why we turn to God or Allah. After all, if we were truly objective, we wouldn't need an all powerful being to show us the truth. We are all biased. I understand yours and Mohammed's points. The egocentricity of the West, the arrogance, their fake liberalism and feminism makes me want to puke. But... not all is bad. The West, like many other cultures, has also brought us some good things. I'll just give you 2: Social security snd healthcare. We take care of the sick and the old. True in a very unpersonal and systematic way, but we try not to leave anyone behind. A second one is that we try to not be at each others neck. Not in a physical sense. Even if we get into heated debates, we don't go to war. Maybe that's the good that came out of the 2 wars: we know that working together, even if we disagree, is better than fighting. I guess what I'm trying to say is: we should not through out the baby with the bath water.
@Med AYT18 yeah well maybe... I will not get into that debate because there really isn't a solution that doesn't diminish someone.
@@Rausque that's very true, and this constant atonement and self-despise is bringing western culture to its knees and could be its end. We're the only culture doing this right now. I mean, other cultures don't give a f*ck about their past crimes. Islam doesn't seem to question itself, it's a very dogmatic and tribal faith, that's why it is so strong and that's why the cultural clash is so big.
As an Arab woman who has also been outspoken about the hypocrisy in my community, I feel so encouraged that some of us are brave enough to bring this conversation forward. The only way out of this is through free speech. Thank you for sharing this with your audience.

@o0 0o He's simply highlighting important issues that are making our society vulnerable and less good, for want of a better term. Making visible aspects of our private lives that are increasingly becoming public to a point of hindrance. I don't see that as your title of 'hero' whatever that even means
@o0 0o Being vulnerable and showing weakness doesn't mean you can't be an effective leader. On the contrary. Highlighting issues is the first step to solving. It begins a potentially effective diagnostic methodology. You seam to have a rather personal approach to his work and subsequently his real or perceived role as this so called hero. Quite strange but each to his own. Best wishes from Liverpool England anyway

@@musicisdead411 rejecting Sharia law and being critical of it is not Islamophobia, as much as criticizing Israel is not antisemitism.
@@omarromo5293 lmao when did I say being "critical" of Islam or "rejecting" sharia is Islamophobia ..... it's mostly ignorance because both Peterson and his western audience are not religious experts and fall to "criticizing" Islam based on orientalist troupes (the Prophet pbuh being a warmonger is not some new conception, it's been spread among christian europe for centuries, it's just used now to justify military imperialism on the basis of islam being a supposedly violent religion).
and I don't see what any of that even has to do with what I originally stated, his audience is still Islamophobic and Peterson panders to them which is why he's had a joke of person like Ayaan on his show, someone who knows nothing about religion largely or Islam.
and the false dichotomy is very nonsensical, criticizing a religion is not the same thing as criticizing a country's actions, especially one illegally occupying and committing genocide against another population while receiving billions of military funding by so called freedom loving and human rights defending countries.
Lastly, given that Muslim are fundamentally oppressed all over the world whether it's through state oppression in france, china, india or palestine, western imperialism in iraq, syria or yemen, it comes off as extremely bizarre to me that the same people that reside in these countries that perpetuate, defend or whose tax dollars even fund these actions are jumping at the chance to "criticize islam".

For example, if free speech is as important and shouldn't be restricted and curtailed, then what about verbal or written sexual harrassment, in the form of words?
'Cat-calling' as Hirsi describes is a form, or can be a form, of harrassment. So if free speech is an absolute right, then why should cat-calling not fall into the same category? If your answer is that it should, you are condoning sexual harrassment in the name of free speech.
If you say, that it comes with the expectation of further harm, then you have to consider that this is not always true. Many a time, women and men do not believe that the cat-calling will lead to anything. It's just done to have fun and make women feel uncomfortable. Is this free speech?
If you are answer yes, then you are using free speech to justify harrassment. If the answer is no then you acknowledge that free speech that makes others feel uncomfortable or victimized can be unacceptable.
You could argue that speech that causes harm, directly or indirectly should not be included under the label free speech, but then you have admitted that free speech has its limits.
So why should Ayaan Hirsi have the right to come on a platform, to use conjecture, to accuse the poor, dispossessed or even derelict, of rape or sexual misconduct, thereby possibly influencing whether or not they actually receive help, while they are in desperate need, but a man cannot cat-call? Why is it only free speech when she speaks about things important to her, possibly doing a lot of harm globally, using what is essentially conjecture, but it is not acceptable when religious figures speak negatively about modernity?
Bear in mind, that everything she says is based on conjecture or subjective experience.
So if free speech is such an important right, that justifies giving a woman who avoids using data and statistics, as a point, a platform then Jordan Peterson shouldn't have a problem with challenging her directly or having a moderate, liberal muslim voice on his pod cast?

@@SilentEmpires not really. Culture is the choice being made. Even if economics change, it's individuals position to decide whether to change their values.

I was pleased to see she didn't shy away from Muslim cultural significance in how women are treated. Acknowledging cultural differences is important in recognizing the root of our problems in Western society. I loved the phrase "it's not the values that are the problem in Western society but our failure to live up to them". Incredibly relevant in describing Christian values.
What a fascinating and humbling discussion to listen to as a Canadian woman! THIS is what students in "Womens' Studies" at university should be discussing not more hatred of Western white males.

As a Dutch guy, I remember her rise to political fame out of nowhere. I was too young and too uneducated to realize what was going on, but in hindsight, I think Ayaan was pretty spot on from the beginning about the threats coming from religious extremism and how the leftist view of all 'cultures are equal' is a pretty dangerous assumption.
Now, some 10-15 years later, we're seeing the fruits of not acting accordingly back then manifest in western society...and it's not good. We're destroying ourselves from within, distracted by bickering over race, gender, identity while more nefarious ideologies and religious are slowly taking over.

The Dutch not feeling they have any cultural significance when they keep the ocean at bay is, to me, incredibly moving.
I agree. Some of the most talented artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt, VanGogh, and Bosch have called The Netherlands home. The Netherlands has a long history of religious tolerance and independence and has had a strong middle class for probably longer than any other country. Your point is quite right. It is sad to think they don't value at very least their engineering developments, which are not even on the top of their list of gifts to mankind.
Being Dutch, all I can say is that our Calvinistic culture is not about showing off, ego, sticking out, or boasting. The national saying is "act normal, because then you're already acting crazy enough". You're expected to do your best and it is nothing special if you do. And if you're lucky to be gifted with a special talent then good for you, but that's nothing to celebrate. When your worldview is like that you don't look to see what things make you or your country great. Being an expat for 17 years now I can totally appreciate Dutch culture and achievements. What a wonderful conversation - interview!
It made me rethink and reanalyze more than 5 decades of social behaviour and its development in my country and the countries I lived in.
The behaviour and personal relationships in different Western countries have definitely changed. Some for the worse but also some for the better. The question of current society`s structure is extremely complex, even more so than decades ago. Too many important issues have been ignored and swept aside. On the other hand so many banal and silly "problems" have been discussed to this day that it is no wonder that individuals and therefore the majority of the Western society as a whole are emotionally and socially confused. The question of political correctness is one that has been discussed to its death. What are we allowed to say and what not? Maybe it`s better to say nothing, that way you can`t be held accountable for maybe using politically incorrect expressions or stating something that will offend a certain someone or even some socially protected groups or minorities.
It has become very complicated and people are too tired to deal with important things because they`ve been worn out by stupid discussions. At least that`s what I observe when I talk to people.
Some people will be offended no matter what you say, including one's answer to "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the (un)fairest of them all?" Trying not to offend anybody is a good strategy if your goal is to maximize "likes" but Ayaan has the concrete objective of reducing violence to women, so who cares if the rapists are offended? As a woman, aren't you concerned about that problem?
@@2Hot2
I`ve never given a thing about political correctness and society made me pay for that. And yes, I`ve been concerned about "that problem" ever since I`ve been a little girl.
I`ve lived through things some can`t even imagine and that`s why I was referring to the "political correctness" which made many people shut up instead of talking about important issues. I was describing the general mindset of the society I live in, not so much my own beliefs.

yeah, like every other place in the world does. seems obvious.
My Polish Grandfather had to walk from a Russian POW camp back to his family .... they came to Canada, integrated in both English and French segments of society and told us: now you are Canadian, speak the language and show gratitude!
Exactly as if this should ever be a debatable or even a contentious topic -- it shouldn't.
For example: It's not as if anyone who visits your home can do whatever they like whenever they like, to whomever they like; simply said if they refuse to conform to a common set of rules of decency , they'd no longer be welcome in your home.
Tell that to the left wing so called intellectuals... these people are impervious to common sense
Did the british adapt to native indian culture and customs? 👀
When tackling a complex problem, one would not want to allocate all resources in a single niche. So, some would keep the discussion warm, some would fight in the court (or the street), some would write about it ... and some would pray... I guess it is important that everyone involved understands his/her own role in this. (It helps protect against burn-out, I guess...) Thank you and good luck playing that role of yours, Jordan! 🙂
The ability and importance of having these conversations about such difficult, complex and sensitive topics is utterly paramount to the continued positive progress of humanity, and it is why I absolutely believe in the necessity of freedom of speech without persecution. The outcome of such conducted conversations, in my estimation, can only ever yield to exploring, challenging and furthering our knowledge and understanding by investigating topics from different perspectives. They do more good than harm when framed and approached in an inquisitive and exploratory manner - just as this conversation was.
I've always preferred, quite drastically, speaking and listening to reading. Yet, the further down the intellectual journey I go, via watching interviews and discussions from several CZcams channels, the more I start to feel that delving into some books could help flesh out some things. That old adage: "knowledge is power". This is true, in some sense, but perhaps not in a materialistic sense. Instead, one could say that knowledge leads to the power of truth. Not only that, but perhaps the truth of oneself. Truth can have a profound value and meaning, and what better value is there than aiming towards discovering one's value of existence in the world? Is that not, after all, the one truth and value that all people wish to discover no matter their race, religion, etc?
I realise there's a lot to unpack and left unsaid there, but I will leave it there nonetheless. This is a CZcams comment after all. :)
