- This is how I've been making stone settings for nearly 28 years.
The trick, is to not give up. If something goes wrong, just keep on going.
Future videos will have the sounds of the workshop too.
Any suggestions, please comment.

I’m been a Goldsmith for 49 years I love to see other jewelers hand made heads and the tools they use great work your doing a good job.
Thank you very much. Not enough jewellers share the full secrets and leave people guessing the middle bits of the process, so thought it was about time to share. There are some fun projects to come too though.
Thank you for commenting. It really helps my little channel.
thanks for sharing your precious experience
You're welcome. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
I'm not even done on the video yet, and I want to thank you!!!!
Ah thank you. It's much appreciated. I'm still a very new and small channel. There were some words about the music and sound levels on this one. So was kind of a practice one for me, but it seems it was viewed a lot. I will one remake this one when I get a lot better at the video and editing stuff.
It's an honor to get to hear from someone with 28 years of experience. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you for commenting and watching.
This is great, love the video, love your description of the process, thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching. The newer two part has the ring shank and assembly too.
Thank you for this tutorial. Great job.
You're welcome. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing.
You're more than welcome. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
As a total amateur, using a tig welder and pencil grinder, it's refreshing to hear someone with so much experience just starting out doing something, like video, and being humble. That being said I think the video is great quality for learning. Perhaps doing 2 videos, one in depth long form like this, and one with just music would be a useful format. Love the music choices, and great tips. I've always wanted something like this, thanks, and good job. I loved it. Keep it up, please. 🤘
Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated indeed. There is a much shorter video without commentary on a six claw version. But I'll definitely keep it in mind for future videos.
I'm a hobbyist who's trying to make handmade jewellery and start selling, this video is great! Would love to see you create a band for this and put it all together!
Thank you for the feedback.
I will be doing a video on that at some stage, but I have a list of videos to make first. I'll be doing a lot more tutorials in the future. The key is to just keep going. Not getting disappointed in mistakes and keep pushing forward. I'm sure my video editing and recording will be better by then too. 🤣
Bravo ! ❤
Thank you.
Sei un artigiano con capacità e gusto. La griff che hai realizzato è davvero ricca di stile ed eleganza, parola di orafi italiani
Thank you for your kind words.
Thank you for the tips in this video - at least now I know where I went wrong on my first attempt at making a collect - keep the cuts at the top third straight! Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the trade 😀
You're most welcome. At a later stage, I'll be doing many variations on this style.
A lot of what you're saying really resonates with me. We share similar philosophies regarding proper building techniques and the recent experience of having to adapt filming and editing skills. Gladly subscribed to your channel age looking forward to more content!
Thank you 🙂👍
Thank you I've been trying to learn all about this I want to make my wife a ring and the stone clasp is what I had no clue how to do. You explain it perfectly....
You're welcome. If it doesn't go right first time, just keep trying. Keep pushing forward.
GREAT !!!! I love your way of work, looks so simple, but I know how high skills you presents! Congrats, I gonna watch more, Hi from Poland
Thank you and welcome aboard.
Your videos are super valuable. Hard rock is a plus in the workshop. Please keep them coming. They are donation worthy.
Thanks for the kind comments. It's much appreciated. Stay tuned for more hopefully valuable content.
Thank you for your instruction. It’s appreciated so much.
You're welcome. 👍🏼
Great video, thank you, Michelle
You are very talented my friend!
Thank you. I'm just plodding along. We look forward to our next meet up. I hope you're both well.

Thank you. Shows you watched and listened. Much appreciated.
I liked your dodgy tooth expression 😂👍
Strange but true right. 👍🏼
Ha ha absolutely 💯 like I'm not eating Johnson he's got a gamey leg 🤣
Super helpful!! you don't really need the background music btw
Thanks for feedback. Much appreciated. I love having music, but still getting used to editing. I want to use it between talking more, but this editing is whole new thing. I'll get there. 👍🏼
Damn saw blades 😂 I’ve not been breaking near as man. I love it
Nice work, great point of view. So many people making videos are working for tool sellers. This is refreshing as a makers I can connect to and learn from this. Thanks, please keep making videos, Your angles are good:)
Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. I have full intention of making a lot more videos, along with different wacky projects that still relate to the Same needed techniques.
Two more videos are coming late weekend. 👍🏼
Could you make a video where you solder it to a ring and set the stone. Thx
It's definitely on my list of projects to do. 👍🏼
I’m with ya.
Muchas gracias, muy didáctico el video compañero. Saludos
Thank you for the kind words. Lots more educational projects to be added.
Quisiera saber si en la parte posterior del engarse lleva una tapa ? Gracias
@user-wu8sg8be9u sorry. This hasn't auto translated correctly. This piece would have a separate bezel (lower part) below if I were to use this for a ring.
Senkyu, congratuleyshu
You need to teach me please how do you insert your video! so cool!!
Maybe when we see you on the 25th, we can could go somewhere near us, then come to our home after and I can edit a bit and show you my program.
Sterling or fine? What do you mean when you say silver? Aren't settings usually fine? Thanks for all you are sharing.
I can't honestly remember what I said in a video this far back. If I say fine, I normally refer to jewellery style or approach to making.
The only time I speak about fine silver is when alloying down gold. Or sometimes saying never use fine silver in jewellery. It normally a beginner thing where people use that silly fine silver bezel strip, and I always tell people not to use it.
I hope this helps. I don't personally have time to rematch the video.
If you ever notice anything else. Make a note of the ti.e I say it and I'll happily have a look and clarify. Questions are always welcome. 👍🏼
Great video! Really refreshing to see some good traditional jewellery-making. Do you do custom work? If so, how can I contact you? I'd like to have some earstuds made in 950 platinum. Thank you
Hi. Thank you for commenting. And thank you for the kind words. My actual business is all bespoke work specialising in Platinum. But currently I'm keeping the business and CZcams very much separate. It really depends on the way I take the channel. If it does too well, I don't want to fully reveal my address as things could go very wrong. Sorry. It may change though. Really depends on future security.
Many thanks again.
Good video. I can just barely hear you though would be nice if you turn the music down. 🙃
Thank you for the feedback. I did have a few problems with audio. I'm still learning this side of things myself. I'll actually be using much less music for future tutorial videos. It definitely gets in the way. Thanks again.
Sería muy importante traducir al Español,sólo así valdría la pena suscribirse. No entiendo nada.
Edit. I've just checked and subtitle work in Spanish for me. I just had to press the cc icon, then in setting click on which language to auto translate too. And it works fine.
Thanks for feedback. As far as I know, youtube subtitles cc should give you Spanish subtitles. I will check the settings though. I appreciate your thoughts on this.
I cannot image how bad your hands probably hurt after working on rings all day!
Jewellery all day, most days for almost 27 years. When arthritis kicks in, I'm done for. 😬
It doesn't hurt too much holding things, but the heat kills as I Sand off my fingerprints.
It literally does. You begin to start to see it before you even get there
For sure. So satisfying when you see the final piece too, that your brain was seeing from the beginning.
@@metalofhonour I’ve messed up more times than I can count lol but what I’ve been doin once I mess up is take the ring apart piece by piece it’s really helped my soldering an knowing when it’ll flow an when it won’t flow
It happens. In future videos I will be going into a lot more soldering techniques and why I only ever use hard solder no matter how many joins there are. I'll also go into unsoldering projects too. 👍🏼
@@metalofhonour I’ve found myself doing that an thought it might been a bad move lol I have nobody to teach me just been teaching myself
Once hard solder flows to me it seems to be even harder to make flow again idk
GReat ideo except that i didnt pick a word with this noxious and useless music in the background..
Thanks for feedback. I haven't included music in the tutorials since this video because of this reason. I'm still new and getting used to it. I'm partially deaf in one ear so can't always judge what I'm hearing level wise. So another reason I've taken it out of tutorials. Thanks again.
@@metalofhonour Thank you for your kind reply! Sorry if I was a bit blunt, it's just me... I watched more of your vids, I think they are the best or learning. Like having a private teacher for free! Thank you for your efforts.
@@Frogmobile52 haha. You can be blunt. You've heard me in my video. If I think it, I'll say it. I can be very blunt. 🤣
