2017 I happened across synthwave on JimTV's channel and didn't know what it was or who the artists were. He didn't credit any artists in his mixes, took me several months to eventually figure out what I was listening to thanks to youtube recommendations.

47:30 starts one hell of a song! Slow at the beginning but once it gets going its damn nice! There are others that are really great but this one specifically stood out to me.

This and a few other tracks brought out memories of playing Mega Man X on PS2
This genre is what the old Amiga "Soundtracker" module music evolved into. I can hear echoes of Ackerlight, North Star, 4-Mat, Chris Hülsbeck and other Amiga greats in these pieces. It really takes me back to the demoscene of the 80s where I cut my teeth on computing. The old crews would be most impressed by what the younger artists are producing in the genre today.

Yes, the 80s are eternal, but this playlist doesn't sound too much like the 80s. Synthwave indeed is inspired by that decade but ultimately a contemporary sound.

Indeed, the FIRST decade that enjoyed the widespread start of consumer tech. BUT was still early enough that most things people needed to do, work for, sweat for and enjoy --- were still very "analog" and simple.
*Like for example using the rotary phone and calling your crush (and hope no one eavesdrops on the shared line) then strategically sending hand-written perfume-infused love letters via snail mail and hoping the postman (or a suspicious father) won't intercept and open it before your crush could.*
