this music has that.. something. I've drown myself in a toxic relationship, one that brings You on the edge, sometimes, when i'm afraid to go to sleep - where all this haunts me, I open myself to that specific vibe - and You know what? it helps, I don't know how but it does
I remember as a kid 1990 timeframe, we were at a car show/fair, and they were giving out sunglasses that were nothing more than a pliable plastic sheet cut into the shape of a pair of Oakley jawbreaker sunglasses (same rainbow type coating), with a thing strip of foam that circumferenced the border for comfort, and had a latex cord that resembled the workout bands you can buy today, that kept them secured to your head like a pair of swim goggles. Best invention ever.

I think it was just a prominent feature in media. A lot of TV shows and movies started, ended, or had a lot of scenes with sunsets around that era
You've probably randomly caught the end of a western movie while flipping through the channels (unless you're a fan of those films like I am) and seen a cowboy protagonist riding off into the sunset...well for me, the end of the 80s was a lot like riding into the sunset of an incredible period in time.
It's clear humanity peaked in different ways at different times, but yes basically they all lie between the 50s and now. After this decade, it's all be decline for the coming several centuries, just a struggle for survival vs climate change & ecosystem collapse.
This music is getting me through a very tough time. Thank you.

Damn, this first song hits right in the feels. Endless Night is literally the audio interpretation of how I felt in the best nights of my long evenings with friends, playing guitars around the campfire, looking at the stars and chatting about life until 2am, even when we had work or college at 8am the next day.
Growing up and becoming responsible adults has split us apart in many ways; physically, mentally, emotionally. But, those were the best of times...
This is the first time I ever hear this music but I can immediately tell that I'll never forget this moment. Absolutely brilliant playlist.

You know, they actually did that back in the 50s with a pair of F101 Voodoos -- with mid air refueling, they stayed in sunlight for 24 hours straight.

4:09 Heart of Night just gives me chills all over. So soothing. So hopeful, yet also gives you the feeling of giving up, giving in, let the pieces fall where they may.
I imagine I'm driving around a large, neon-lit city at night. The year is somewhere between tween 1983 and 84. Time is around 2AM. Summer is dying, but a warm rain still patters on my windshield. I drive as slowly as the roadsigns permit, but there is no one else out. I look with mixed feelings of awe and sorrow at all the billboards, and the manmade lights. It beautiful, it's teeming with life, it's inspiring, it's.... horrific. Cold, lonely. All the lines are so sleak, all the angles are so perfect... yet it's all so... flawed.
I pass a diner, still open. I stop for a bit. There are three guests inside. One is a fat older man in a tweedcoat. He's munching on a poorly made burger, some dressing having dripped down on his collar. He strikes me as a washed up private detective. Straight across at the farthest wall from him is a mural, depicting a female Harlequin Mime with a chalk white face, wearing all B/W clown clothes. She's has a vacant expression on her face, and one black tear below her left eye. Below the mural sits a young woman. Her skin is pale, and her hair is frizzed tall and with a ponytail off to the side of her head, tied with magenta colored torn fabric, fashioned into a hairband. The color magenta is striking, because I've never seen colors so vibrant. New colors never seen before... what a wonderous time to live in. Her eyes are caked with mascara, giving them a sunk in look. Her lips are bright read with lipstick, giving her an almost clown- or mime-like appearence. Not unlike the mural infront of her. She's having a diet coke and crispy thin fries served in a plastic basket,. Maybe her shift just ended... or maybe it's about to start? Off to the side from the woman sits a skinny black fella. He has his back facing me, and I can't see what he's having. He's wearing a red leather jacket, and his closely cropped hair looks shiny in the florescent light fixture right overhead. The host is behind the counter, wiping it down with a not entirely clean rag. She's a modern day hero, probably working double shifts to support her kids.
I keep driving. Driving... driving... I pass gas stations, more diners, back allys with brick walls and crudely made band posters plastered all over. Some have skulls and pentagrams, others have lightning bolts, and geometric shapes in more of those new ultra vibrant colors. Each of these bands have big dreams, but probably none of them will make it. Will any of us make it? A nuke can hit us at any point. One big flash of light and we're all gone. All this horrific, manmade beauty. I stay away from news stations. I don't wanna know what's going on out there. I just wanna take comfort in the warm late summer rain pattering against my windshield. Tonight feels good.

Thank you. It's not mine though. It's all of ours. Images from 80s movies, characters, moments, all those wonderful Film Noir tropes. It's with mixed feelings I envoke them. I wanna go back and live there, although I only experienced that time as a very young kid, never having seen it through the eyes of an adult. But then again, why go back there when we can experience it here, all the time? I think I prefer my romanticized version of it anyway. :))
