The Pittsburgh Penguins made it back to the Stanley Cup Final in 2016 and defeated the San Jose Sharks to claim the franchise's fourth Stanley Cup championship.
Phil Kessel will forever be a legend for the Penguins. Dude came in and just produced, and it resulted in the first back to back Cups in the salary cap era. His contributions, and his value as a quality dude and a productive badass goalscorer, will live forever.
Not many coaches say that at their Cup Parade and almost none that have actually said something along those lines delivered. I have nothing but love for Sullivan.
@@fruitbythefoote i mean last year i thought his time was up because his system was just not working and he wasn't seeming to change it but he proved me wrong this year
Who will ever forget Harnaryan Singh's famous call of "Bonino Bonino Bonino Bonino Nick Boninooooooooooo" during those 2016 playoffs? It never gets old.
Exact same boat as you brother, that Dupuis part got me choked up. I've been binging everything I can. If you havent seen the three hour "The story of the penguins" (something like that), you should check it out as well. Same channel.
The coaching change is what turned that season around. Mike Johnston just was not cutting it, when the change was made to Sullivan, that turned the tide. The other turning points where the in season trades for Trevor Daley and Carl Hagelin which really made the team more dynamic.
Gah this may be my favorite Cup from the Pens. I grew up in Pittsburgh till I was 14 but moved then. Never saw a championship won while being in my hometown till this year. Took my vacation from work and I happened to get into town the day of game 6 and was able to watch on the screen in Consol/PPG Arena. Best night of my life, followed by one of the best days of my life when I got to attend the parade. Love my black and gold. Go Pens!!! Thanks for some of the greatest sports memories past and future!!!
Unfortunately for me, I've been REALLY SPOILED over the years, and this is only my 3rd favorite cup memory, with '91 being #1, '09 being #2, '16 #3, '92 being #4, and '17 being #5. It's something about going back to back that makes it expected. And that '92 team was a freaking powerhouse. Though they made alot of that playoff run without Mario. Then the '09 team winning after Detroit had ripped our heart out in 6 games the year before, just made it all the sweeter to win it in 7 over them. But, nothing will ever beat that 1st one. The '91 team. Just so much fun watching our laughing stock of a team, draft Mario Lemieux, and with a couple more great trades, we was lifting Lord Stanley! Nothing can ever beat the 1st one!
Does anyone else think that Kris Letang was the most overrated player in Pens history? Not taking away the amazing things he did over the years. But, THE MULTITUDE of mistakes, just over shadows that to me. Sorry if that offends anyone. J my opinion.
The worst part of this season was how Sullivan didn't get the Adams. Forget the talent on the roster, the difference in the team before and after he took over was like night and day. He got the most out of the players and won a Cup that nobody thought the Penguins would win.
Anyone ever wonder what Chris Kunitz' value is, go to 1:05:15. His diving backcheck to break up the break away was absolute magic. This wasn't even the angle from which you can really appreciate it though.
I just watched this again and cried and loved it but they didn't show MAF with the Cup one time. That was so disappointing to me. Now I am gonna watch 2017 B2B. Love my Pens.
I was there for that loss, right behind fleury on the balcony as he sat on the puck and knocked it in. Seeing Crosby slumped on the ice was definitely on my bottom 10 things I’ve ever seen
Phil Kessel, the man, the myth, the legend. I can say with certainty, that without Phil, NO back to Back. Let alone one Cup. Phil is up there with Lemieux, Jagr, Francis, Crosby, and Malkin. HIs number should be retired.
Great video my time was not wasted. I had watch Pittsburgh that year and now this video. Had to comment, I enjoyed it all over again. Made my day Thank you
Is it just me or does anybody else find it really stupid that they don’t show or talk about who the Conn Smythe in these Stanley Cup recaps? I mean, the player judged to be the best player in the playoffs is a big part of the Stanley Cup story.
I remember this playoff year I was really hoping for Marleau and Thornton to win the cup knowing that they have a good team and this is likely to their last real chance, I was really sad pens took it from them. Teddy Blueger fan.
Even as a vancouver fan ive always loved pittsburgh. To see them win it back to back to really validate crosby as an all time great was special. Congrats to you guys man, always loves dupuis as well. Class player for a class organisation.
I agree with what Jim Rutherford said at 5:09-5:14... I didn't want to see Pascal Dupuis leave the Pittsburgh Penguins after the 2016-2017 NHL season, personally & to this day, I still wish he could take the ice for one last NHL season & then, officially call it a career. If nothing else, have Pascal Dupuis suit up for one last skate at the first home game of the season & call it "Pascal Dupuis Appreciation Night", or, something like that & do something for him where he takes the ice, he addresses the Pittsburgh crowd, he's announced by the P.A., he gets a standing ovation & after that, he heads back to the locker room & the rest of the team can come out for their introductions/etc. before the game officially starts.
