During the last 12 years María Fernanda Puerto-Carrillo is completely committed to protecting the jaguars of Venezuela, which are under immense pressure due to illegal hunting for retaliation and habitat loss. María Fernanda is the founder of the NGO Proyecto Sebraba.
Her main objective is to minimise conflicts and threats faced by jaguars in the south of Zulia state, one of the most dangerous places in the country. Her perseverance resulted in alliances with large landowners. Their joint goal is to establish adequate management of domestic animals to avoid predation and to minimise the hunting of the jaguar for reprisals. Another goal she has set is establishing an ecological corridor that increases the connectivity between the two national parks in the region.
    About Future For Nature:
The Future For Nature Foundation (FFN) supports young, talented, and ambitious nature conservationists committed to protecting species of wild animals and plants. We believe in the power of the individual. Therefore, we select a new generation of nature conservationists who we believe make the difference for the future of nature. Natural leaders who inspire and with their drive and ‘stubbornness’ achieve impressive results. Annually, we put three of these promising young people in the spotlight.

Very impressive, Maria Fernanda! I did not know of the existence of Jaguars in Venezuela. I wish you the best of luck.
