Bill should have been nominated for his role in love actually. He is brilliant in all his work but Billy Mack was iconic!
Love his subtle acting and voice. Especially in Darkworld I loved his performance, I want more of that.

Happy B-day Bill Nighy. UR amazing legend. I loved Underworld Rise of the Lycans, 1, and 2 Evolution. I watch all of them. Underworld is awesome and romantic...! Underworld remind me of Resident Evil. Its complicated. Shaun of the Dead is great. Zombie movies r awesome. Pokemon Detective Pikachu is super awesome, I love Pokemon, I seen Pokemon, long time ago. Having Dupuytren's contracture myself like Bill Nighy has and having had surgery, I find it interesting why Mr Nighy hasn't had his finger's worked on?

It's funny about the lines. I can practice my lines until I am blue in the face, but they don't sit until I step onto the stage in rehearsal, look the other actors on the face, and hear what they are saying. So yes, the work starts once everyone is there. Once the other characters show up and we start living and breathing the scene together.

Has he ever played anyone other than himself?
Yes.
Rarely. But there are barely any actors who can do that. He plays himself but with such convincing humanity in his performance that he makes characters believable and realistic. And if you compare his voice acting in Rango, to his performances in Underworld, to Davy Jones in Pirates and to his comedy-drama stuff... Well, you'll see he's got quite some range.

yep but many actors do that like de niro and pacino. they're hired for 'a thing'.
Sorry, but I am unable to discern the nuances in his performances. To me he always seems to be playing Bill Nighy in every role.
Most actors do. Look at Judi Dench, she plays herself in every role too!
