The final plans to increase Northern California's water storage by building Sites Reservoir were released by the Bureau of Reclamation and Sites Project Authority.
Our electrical infrastructure is already near it's limits and most desalination methods are huge power users. Without new nuclear power plants, large scale seawater desalinization just wouldn't be possible.
You might as well put a damn at the carquinez strait so the salt water does not come into the delta and up to sacramento.you need the outflow to stop the salt water
It's on an earthquake fault that wasn't known years ago. Millions of people who live below the proposed dam won't be happy if an earthquake were to damage a full dam. Unlikely it could ever be built.
Trade off what? I can't believe I heard that, willing to destroy the Sacrament River, its fishery and wildlife, for the sake of the industrial farming community, primarly almond exports. We will fight this to the very end...
Exactly! Another bureauocrat using code words for CYA. Then when things go south, they can say, "We warned you, there would be 'tradeoffs'". Without ever defining what they meant until its past the point of no return. One thing is for sure, a few wealthy politicians are going to get even wealthier.
Ever been to the Sacramento River? It's completely full of water (Billions of gallons) and 90% of it flows into the ocean unused. How is that "saving" water?
What a load of crap. Northern California has a TON of water, it just all comes in the winter. It's all about storing the excess water (abundant amounts which flow in to the ocean) for the dry season. Southern CA is a different story.
If only the billions of gallons flushed out the mega concrete channels draining LA was saved like this, instead of taking water out of a river already overused by farmers, people and fisheries.
One delay after another...way to much RED TAPE. Can we get an adult to make a decision here, PLEASE !!!
When are they going to desalinate ocean water to fill the reservoirs?

The State needs to exercise Eminent Domain and restore Lake Tulare to meet California's water needs
Suspicious as well if this is heavly backed by industrial agricultural interests, diverting more water from the Sacramento river.

In Another 22 1/2 years you may begin turning the dirt.
Seriously what about auburn dam
Build it, damn it.
Unless you are under 10 years old, you'll be dead by the time this project is done

@@eh3477 there was a redesign done because 9f the earthquake fear, but as usual it stalled. As you said probably never happen.
So stupid, add 1000 small ponds all over the state. Not one big one that has to be pumped.

Genius! A new reservoir in California. It must have taken all the politicians to come up with this idea.
"Reservoir!" "Lisa Needs braces."
California needs to accept the fact that it can’t continue to be the way it is because it doesn’t have any water

Where is the 3.9 billion dollars to build this reservoir coming from? Ca is already billions of $$'s in debt.
Yawn...

Who needs water?
Maybe using deslination a better choice instead of wasting more land, since you know CA is right NEXT to the OCEAN???
