@@TheLongDonYou have to remember that the WRX came out super affordable and with an engine layout few people understand. If you want to make power, go buy a mustang. If you want a racing subaru, get an STI. But the WRX is simply meant to be a fun daily, not a track car
@@calebflora9304 Right, but that's not what it's used for. If you know your market is going to push the shit out of the car, wouldn't you at the very least not have a transmission that shits itself every 20k miles of slightly hard driving? Not saying it's a bad car, just bad for what it's target audience is
@@TheLongDon You can say that for any and all cars, cars from the factory are not made for hooning, none of them are and they all have weak points that need to be fixed. You maybe too young for this but we where blowing t5s in foxbodies and camaros with stock motors and sticky tires. There's a reason the 3rd gen firebird and camaro didn't come with a manual on the 350. Those cars would also twist them selves in half if you launched too many times, the rear end of the camaro was a constant risk of grenading, the 302 in the foxbody would also crack it's block if pushed past 500hp. That's just 2 popular American equivalent. It's even more embarrassing considering both mustangs and Camaros are sports cars from the factory.
Same thing with the subie. An Impreza is a economy car, there's a factory performance version sure, but the actual base Impreza is for getting you to work sounding good and looking cool not for putting it down and especially not as much as these guys did. Like the foxbody mustang, sure there was a SVT Cobra and Cobra R, but your bonestock foxbody was a family car.
Hot rodding is about making cars do what they're not made to do, and that involves a lot of work. I have a 4age 20v swapped E100 corrola with a AWD transmission imported from japan for the E104 corrola wagon. had to cut the floor and everything reform it. Engine revs to 11 grand, and makes almost 350hp all motor. You wouldn't believe how much work everything needed to not explode or maybe you would.

Hawkeye WRXs (06-07) have an LSD in the rear, it's a Viscous LSD, but it's way better than an open diff.
When I owned an 06 wagon I looked into an STi drivetrain swap, it was going to run me 4-6k in parts which included brembos and associated brake hardware; in addition to those costs I would have had to pay for a controller, new clutch & flywheel, fluids, pads & rotors & 5x114.3 wheels. I also priced out a 5x100 setup with brembos, which would have saved me the cost of wheels; I can't fathom a used swap that costs 12k that doesn't include brembos and a set of wheels.

@misseselise3864 then they still had to buy the special gears to put in. Tgey said they already destroyed a few gearboxes so those standard ones were no option
@TheAdatto they destroyed the 5 speed gearbox so instead of wasting money on that gearbox they should have done the sti 6 speed swap right from the beginning and 12k for a used 6 speed I way too much , brand new 2020 6 speeds go for 14k

If you double clutch you won't have that grind and helps it last longer.
Older semi trucks have non synchro transmissions abd you either double clutch or (float) you match the transmission speed with the engine and didn't use clutch at all
DCCD does not vector torque, it simply limits slip. The numbers on the controller are maximum slip percentages before the diff locks.
Also, get off the clutch when shifting the dog gears. The whole benefit of dog gears is super fast shifting because no clutching is necessary. Just lift briefly and it'll pop right into gear.
I could be wrong but wouldn’t u have to use the clutch going from second to third and fourth to fifth because of the synchros? Assuming u wouldn’t want to ruin them. But I would assume third to fourth would be fine clutch less
@@cedarabbot7263 Fourth to fifth, yes. 1-4 are dog gears and thus do not have synchros.
They introduced torque vectoring on the '08+ models. I actually don't even use manual mode unless I want full lock. I just set front bias for gravel and rear bias for pavement.
In regards to the gear grinding on low car, is there any chance of heat making everything expand/swell and them making contact again at the worst possible time?
I’m assuming the oem gears were put in there with the smallest of tolerances as possible for cost savings.
Big tolerances are scheaper than small tolerances. I doubt that grinding is enough to cause measurable permanent deformation
Well I love the series as always so Thank you guys! HOWEVER!!! LOL. The one transmission is not only the trans. It's multiple up grades all at once which in my book is NOT fair! It certainly doesn't consider that if we were doing these builds ourselves we wouldn't just fix the trans on cheap car we would to remain competitive put in a diff or upgrade it as it's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PART OF THE CAR! Thus it would be saved up for and then bought or in the case that the cheapest way to deal wit it would be to weld said diff Do That!
Justin is such a great addition to the team. Keep it up!
I've seen quite a few people claim that the DCCD allows you to change the torque split, but I don't believe that's technically accurate. The gearing controls torque split and DCCD does nothing until one end slips, relative to the other. At that point the DCCD setting controls how hard the center diff works to maintain lockup between the front and rear, adjustment being from open to full lock, IIRC.
Can definitely do better donuts in open mode though!
You're right, someone at Donut didn't do their homework again.
"The Driver's Control Centre Differential (DCCD) allows the center differential locking of the WRX STI to be dialed in and adjust its handling. It adjusts both an electromagnetic multi-plate transfer clutch and mechanical locking of a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) to distribute torque to the front and rear wheels. Auto Mode identifies the ideal power distribution for changing conditions, whilst Auto [+] keeps more power up front for increased traction. Auto [-] transfers more power to the rear for tighter cornering, and the six-step Manual Mode locks in the driver's favorite handling characteristics." This is literally from Subaru....
Dollar Tree Transmission would be dope
These guys are VERY clean for the work done. Suspicious af.
They had to grind the gear down because their are variances in the 3-4 gear cluster throughout the 5spd years. This is my experience from being young and cheap and making 500whp on a 5spd and having to piece together transmissions from used broken ones.
24:15 This is one of those cases where there is zero chance of denying that just buying the higher tier OEM car would be cheaper & outperform either alternative. This is really relevant in post 2000 era vehicles.
17:17 "Stepson, what are you doing!?"
