There is no actual "shi" word in Tamil.
Meenatchi literally means "Fish rule" which indicates that it's the family deity of Pandya kings who had fish as the symbol of their kingdom.
In Tamilnadu, till now it's reffered as Meenatchi Amman by everyone.
They are not really interchangeable since Meenakshi's meaning is different, Meenatchi's meaning is different..

I'm not sure if it is even possible to compare the difficulty needed to create artistic marvels like these - and I mean structures like The Meenakshi temple, The Taj Mahal, The Sun Temple, The Khajuraho Temples- all.
I have not yet had the privilege to visit the Madurai Meenakshi Temple but I can honestly say I was flabbergasted by the skill and the effort required to do a small 'meenakari' piece on a marble coaster. How much more complex must it be on huge panels of the Taj - add to that the gradual adjustments made due to the increasing height along the gigantic doorway frames so the scriptures at the top seem the same size as the ones at the bottom and my mind is blown.
I'm not comparing the two. I'm simply saying you cannot write off the craftsmanship in the Taj as a mere nothing.

    For anyone's information:
Meenaakshi means 'the fish-eyed one', and refers to the Goddess of the temple, the beautiful-eyed one.
Sundareshvara means 'the beautiful [handsome] lord', and refers to the youthful Shiva who happily enjoys his time with his wife. He also has a local name of affection: 'Sokkalingeshvaran', or 'the lord with pride as his identity'. The comedy is that his wife is so beautiful that Shiva feels smug and self-satisfied in her presence, resulting in a mild bit of arrogance.
Sundareshvara is also hailed as the one who presided over the first two (mythical) Sangams of early Tamil literature. Only the third Sangam is a real historical event from the early centuries CE. One story from the Sangam corpus refers to Natkeera or Nakkeera, a poet in the Pandya court who got in a bit of an odd fix with Sundareshvara. This is the story-
Once, the Pandya king was wandering with his wife in the Leelodyaana (pleasure garden; a well maintained park), when he smelt a wonderful scent coming from somewhere. He went and smelt all the fragrant flowers in the garden, but could not detect that scent on any of them. He was perplexed, and decided to set this as a challenge to the poets of his court to fulfil using a Kaavyalinga or Hetutprekshaa-Alankaaras (those two are poetic ornaments based around abstract extrapolation of causes). He announced he would give hefty sums of money for someone who could come up with a suitable poem.
A young but poor Braahmana in the temple of Meenaakshi, a devotee of Sundareshvara, felt this reward would fill his great many needs completely, even sparing a bit more. But alas- he had no poetic talent. So he pleaded to the prideful and playful lord Sundaresha, and begged him to grant to him the ability to write a single good enough poem. Shiva, ever the soft-hearted one, felt sorry for the young man and told him "Don't worry, child- take this; I've written out a Chaupadi (quatrain) for you. It's really quite excellent, and should bring you that which you desire in court tomorrow. Go and read this out as your own." Overjoyed, the Braahmana went to court and read out the poem. It extrapolated that the divine scent came from the hair of the queen as a result of her grand virtues. Most of the court loved the poem and lauded the Braahmana to no end.
Natkeera, however, was not one of them. "How can this be?!", he asked, "How can you appreciate such a work? It has no basis in logic! The queen's hair was not bedecked with perfumes that day, as it was an intimate moment with no formality. How can the scent come from her hair? This poem is of no good at all!" His logic was of such grandeur that the king felt he needn't give the reward to the Braahmana. Crying, the poor fellow came back to the temple and chided the lord- 'You! You cheated me! They denied me what you said I should get! Now do something.'
Sundareshvara was taken aback. "But why?", he asked. The Braahmana tearfully narrated the whole set of events. Shiva decided to go to court himself, in disguise, and propounded that due to poetry's natural distance from harsh realities, such exaggerations have value and beauty. Natkeera, however, being a Taarkika (logician) of the highest order, scoffed at this decision, drawing on the texts of logic and analysis to support his argument. Tiring of his salvo, Sundareshvara revealed himself in his true form and said "You there! Natkeera! I am Sundaresha, lord of this great city. Will you accept my argument now? It is I who wrote this poem, and I demand the money to be given to this poor man!" Natkeera laughed and said "What do I care? It's still a blatant idiocy to accept such statements. I will not bend!" Most of the Indian states have temple boards which means it would be under govt. Bcz these were under monarchy and now controlled by govt. Hinduism is an unorganised religion and have no religious authority to supervise it. So government is basically the supervisor. So when u donate money, it will go to the board of hindu temples in that state which is under government. They use that money for protection and preservation of all other hindu temples of that state. Actually even for security a lot of money is needed bcz it contain valuable gold items and terrorist bombings can happen any time. in some temples free food is given like that of golden temple. so expenditure is in there also.

Usually the traditional practices in the South India is that Temple timings are opened from Morning 5 AM - 12 or 1 PM and from 4 or 5 PM - 9 PM. Various Pooja ( Kind of ritual to honor the god or recite to the god of what's going on and why people have come.. ) are performed within those specific time. Only specific temples have full day opened in Tamil Nadu.
This Place is a Majestic One and this temple is a Hub for Four special things which Kings used to promote those times.
    1. Culture, Arts & Poetry,
    2. Education
    3. Warfare
    4. Record Keeping of Books, Languages & History.
There are few records to even prove that the Damascus Steel also known as Wootz Steel were believed to be prepared here by the Pandiyan Kingdom even before the other countries recognized it. (Meaning Metallurgy concepts was one of the prime focus in studies even in Early Pandya Period.)
There are various records from international travelers in BCE Periods.
It's worth visiting this temple and there are various other temples which will make awe-struck when you visit it. Tamil History is so vast, but they didn't come on history books in other Indian regions due to some political or unknown reasons.
I'd love to take you in tour when you visit here in Tamil Nadu.

I was born just outside the West tower but never lived there except for annual vacation visits to my grandparents home. One will be lost inside wandering for hours , if there is no local guide. It will take easily 2 days to see the full temple in-depth. The architecture, craftsmanship , precise civil and engineering structure. Etc.. is mind blowing . Can't believe it was done centuries ago. Easily one of the world wonders. ! 🙏🙏🙏 the atmosphere inside is so serene and we can sit near the pond for hours ! Moreover its a fully functional temple. Madurai city itself is nearly 2500 - 3000 years old. Its a foodie's paradise. The best south cuisine you can get here 👍 its a city that never sleeps. I had hot dinner even at 2.30 am 😋😋👌😀👍

Please do a video about our Kochi. Kochi (also known as Cochin) is a city in southwest India's coastal Kerala state. It has been a port since 1341, when a flood carved out its harbor and opened it to Arab, Chinese and European merchants. Sites reflecting those influences include Fort Kochi, a settlement with tiled colonial bungalows and diverse houses of worship. Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets, typical of Kochi, have been in use for centuries.
Kochi has a diverse, multicultural, and secular community consisting of Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Jains, Sikhs, Konkanis and Buddhists among other denominations. Also you can find Jewish SYNAGOGUE. Dutch palace and cemetery. You can see people from every where in Kochi. People are so cool here. Always welcome to Kerala 😀

The temple is adorned with granite imported from India, and it was built to be an exact replica of the Sree Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. All told, there are 16 gods and goddesses celebrated at the Sri Meenakshi Temple, and you’ll see their shrines and get to know them as you explore the temple complex.

    Temples are not open 24*7.
They are usually opened early morning and will be closed by early night time.
Since temples in India used to be the private properties of early Monarchy, after independence, most of the temples are Govt owned , run by special board elected by Govt. There can be differences in it with whom the temple earlier belonged to .(This is how it is in Kerala)
While most of the donation money is assumed to be used for temple renovations, it's maintenance, free food for devotees , salary to the numerous staffs, the govt has access to the donation money, I guess.
