  • Exploring a long abandoned old house in Ontario Canada. This property originally belonged to a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Join us as we see everything that was left behind.
    Twitter - Un...
    Instagram - www.instagram....
    Based off of items found inside the house, we can infer that the previous owner was a very patriotic and outdoorsy-type with lots of adventure equipment and Canadian history paraphernalia.
    We also can assume that based off the children's toys found around the house that the owner had a family with small children, which is very uncommon for mounties because you must have many years of service on the force as well as your commanding officers approval before you were allowed to marry.
    It is unsure as to what exactly happened that caused the previous owner to leave, but our best guess is that he was relocated elsewhere by work and left quickly sometime between 2000 and 2002, taking some of his furniture and personal belongings with him but leaving most of it behind.

    At 4:39 you missed an awesome Super-8 8mm film camera in front of the microwave! The projector for the film is on the floor at 11:30.
    At 5:07 it's not baby powder, it's scrubbing powder to clean toilets/sinks... they still sell Comet brand in Quebec.
    At 9:25 the tube wasn't for maps or posters, it's a fishing rod carrier.
    At 24:36 it's not a cold storage, it's a old "Kleer-Flo Cleanmaster" Mechanics use them to clean parts. It contains tank of solvent, a pump and a sink. Mechanics still use them today.

    This guy was definitely a fix it man who obviously loved cars. I do wonder though, since he loved cars so much, why would he leave all those pictures of them? Plus that one small room downstairs was probably his office. Again, why leave so much? The tub I thought to be a sauna too but why in the middle of a hall? Maybe he was a drinker that had some problems and lost his job and moved? I don't know. Crazy great video!!

      Definitely a possibility! We couldn't find an exact reason as to why he left so much behind but it seemed he left in a hurry, and took only the essentials (food, family photos, bulk furniture, etc.) but it truly is a mystery! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!

    By the way a lot of people told you that those were welding rods in the old refrigerator in the garage but nobody mentioned why they were there. :) Arc welding rods have a coating on them which needs to stay dry. Old welding shops used to keep rods in old fridges as it kept the humidity off the rods. Nowadays we keep the rods in plastic tubes.

    The "wood fired furnace" @21:18 is an oil fired boiler. Probably the first "modern" heat in the house. It would have fed the rusty radiators upstairs. At sometime, someone took the exterior sheet metal and insulation off it. The forced hot air furnace that you showed first, was the second "modern" heating plant in the house.

Funny how I can recall that. The carpet, floor tiles, and the vacuum, is also totally 80's! My dad used English Leather, haha! A little nostalgia, in that house.

    I am in Georgia and there are a ton of these abandoned houses and farms here. I love exploring them also but here you get charged with trespassing and all kinds of criminal activity if you even walk on these properties. Do you not run into any of these problems with the law or people complaining of trespassing where you are? (Come to Georgia and ya can stick me in the truck and carry me along with you!)

    • @UnchartedTravel
      @UnchartedTravel  Před 7 lety

      There is a risk of a trespassing fine (which in Ontario is treated the same as a speeding ticket) so you don't get any criminal record but you have to pay $65 to the city. Most of the time if people catch you, they just ask you what you're doing and once you explain you're just taking pictures they usually let you carry on.

    Great video guys. The piano is called a player piano, and the rods in the first shed in that old ice box looked like welding rods. I look forward to your next vid. Oh, and Alphonse is a cool knew member. Stay safe.

    It's a "Player Piano", the mechanics belong inside the piano and controls the keys. Slits in the paper are read by vacuum and automates the correct keys to play the music.

    Plumbing was a later addition or the 4inch cast iron with hubs would be in the wall,not exposed.The barn was partly hand hewn and had later additions,possibly predating the house.

    The predecessor for 8 track tapes was 4 track tape cartridges. The tape itself was the same as 8 track tapes but they only had 4 tracks recorded on it like real to reel tapes. Very few were made. They were in a cartridge but it wouldn't fit in an 8 track player unless the tape was transferred to an 8 track cartridge . Then they only played one track at a time. they could be played in stereo on a reel to reel tape recorder. I have never seen the player for the 4 track cartridge but I did have one of the cartridges at one time.

    • @ckstaff
      @ckstaff Před 6 lety

      Always made me wonder back then that you pushed the button on the 4 track and there were only 2 tracks, same on the 8 track with only 4 tracks. So I always wondered why the 4 track wasn't just called a 2 track and the 8 track a 4 track.
