I love her Misty, and hopefully he'll get to it. But he loves her mind-blowing high belting songs the most. He likes metal, so it makes sense. Musical taste is subjective.
He should watch 2 consecutive videos from the Begin Again Korea series. Her duet partner in "Flashlight" (czcams.com/video/lSzb6a0PkQU/video.html), Lee Suhyun, cries while Sohyang sings "Misty" (czcams.com/video/_ivvpK3UMlw/video.html). Singers know crying on stage messes up their singing; they let it all out in rehearsals, so their performance isn't affected.
Jazz pianist Erroll Louis Garner composed his standard "Misty" as an instrumental in 1954, and released a recording that year. Lyricist John Francis Burke added lyrics in 1955. Jazz vocalist Dakota Staton was the first to record the song in 1957. Many other singers have recorded the song since then: Sarah Lois Vaughan, 1958; John Royce "Johnny" Mathis, 1959; Ella Jane Fitzgerald, 1960; ... Sohyang sings "Misty" in the style of Fitzgerald.
This song shows that when required, as in this song, she can produce a fine vibrato that brings a very different quality to her voice. She is such a versatile singer.

You know how you said there's no drums and she had to make the song go big with her voice? There's no saxophone, either. So what does she do for the sax solo? She sings it!! Yep, the part she's singing without words follows the sax melody, and she didn't take a break before or after it, she went right into it and the next lyrics. Her breath control is insane! Thanks for returning to Sohyang. You really appreciate her, like we do, and I enjoy your reactions.
Another GREAT/FANTASTIC reaction and analysis. I'm not sure if you noticed, but the PHENOMENAL So Hyang actually sang the saxophone part of Whitney Houston's version.
Great reaction ... as always. I find her rendition mesmerizing, again her artistry and emotional genious paid the appropriate respect to the song and gave us wonders.
This performance was done after a trip to the factory, during COVID, sitting, under the sun, and still the story and the feelings are performed in her unique way.
Make sure you don't miss her live rendition on "Easy On Me" by Adele, similar value of awsomeness. 👍👍👏👏👏

I hope you're not disappointed. It was acoustic , because during Covid, had to be outdoors with a small crew. Begin Again Korea was a tour to lift peoples spirits. She doesn't sing to show off her vocals, but to comfort people. Makes me love her even more.🥰
Why would anyone get disappointed by this amazing performance? We all know that she was not in a large theater with musical equipment where she can perform big notes. I appreciate her busking in an outdoor environment with a single guitar playing background. Beautiful!!!

She sang this song several different ways. Her singing in this performance seemed to emphasize subtle vocal inflections. And I heard that her health condition was particularly poor during the this performance.
I second the poor health part. I have spotted in many occasions some signs of struggle during the performance. She still nailed the vocal but i sometimes feel very sad to see her in pain.

this is when she busking all over Korea just a keyboard and guitar with young singers half her age this is a different venue more lay back performances. She sang this more like the Dolly version without the country sound

There is another version of this song which is completely different. The Dolly Parton version was written by Dolly in 1967, as a farewell to her performing partner Porter Waggoner, as she headed off to immortality on her solo career. She also used it as the closing song on her TV variety show for years. It is an intospective ballad devoid of Whitney's vocal gymnastics, and you might find it to be worth a listen.
Thank you for appreciating her low-key cover. It didn't have high belting, but it was appropriate to lift the spirits of essential dock workers during Covid. Did you have lockdowns, masks, or social distancing in Beirut? We did, and her performance fits perfectly the way I felt. If you didn't experience that, you were very lucky, and might not relate to her Begin Again Korea series. I think you'll like her "Mona Lisa" better. Thank you .

Why were you losing your voice? I hope you're better by now. Sohyang gets sick a lot. She avoids mixed voice when she's not healthy. Maybe she chose a quieter version, because many had recently lost loved ones to COVID. Thank you for reacting to her again. Stay healthy.
