I think you nailed it on how Apple priced and positioned the Vision Pro. Microsoft had done something very similar with the HoloLens (in fact, the HoloLens starts at the same price of $3500 USD). Scary for Microsoft though, that product seems to have stalled for them. Here's hoping Apple figures out what to do with their new headset.

Agreed, I am a bit of an Apple hater. Just never like the eco system / OS. But this is crazy impressive tech. And I am glad someone is making it. And although there is zero chance I would buy it. I could see this possibly taking off most with the professional 3D computer graphics people. 3D sculping in VR is already getting a lot of traction, and I imagine this would be the ultimate way to do that. Niche now for sure, but fun to see the tech.

I absolutely agree. I think one key point to think about is how with the cheaper more affordable Oculus machines, they seem more like entertainment systems (movies/games) where as with the Vision Pro I think more of an investment in an extremely powerful all in one computer. While it does offer plenty of entertainment options, it’s really muscle will be shown in how it’s used for work. However, with that all said 3,500 is still a tough price especially when you’re trying to get the mass interested. Hopefully in a couple of years we get something more practical for the everyday person.

this is a game changer... i think Apple has learned from their past failures in the 80s and 90s..... they understand they need a solid platform and the developers will make the software, they have created a cult of personality with their products and the developers that love the apple ecosystem will create the killer app. I feel its goona come and everyone will follow and i havent owned an apple product in over 10 yrs. this is gonna be big in 2 years

Apple almost always comes up with alternate names for the tech they wish to perfect or the features they wish to hype - for a couple of reasons. First, Apple is frequently late to market with features, so a catchy name allows them to differentiate their purportedly superior version from competitor's implementations. Similarly, with entire technologies - such as AI - the utter avoidance of the term means they are trying to avoid being lumped in with tech that has seemingly already become cliche' and mundane - it's the Apple way - new, exciting, different, better.

It’s not hard to be against Apple right now. They still don’t allow iPhone users to customize their phones to be the way they want them to be. And anyone who spent $6000 on a Mac Pro can’t just upgrade their motherboard and move everything else over like on other professional computers. A person going from the old Mac Pro to the new one will be buying the chassis, power supply, and fans again.

The Vision Pro intro reminds me of when Apple debuted the watch. I had the feeling that the Apple people themselves weren't exactly sure what would hook people into buying it. So they pushed it out to the public to see how people interacted with it. And the answer was health and fitness-the most elaborate FitBit you can get. By now millions of us are hooked on checking our heart rates, distance walked/run/swam, etc. And my wife once tripped on an irregular sidewalk and her watch offered to call 911. I'm happy that I don't have to count pool laps anymore...etc.

4:36 Thank you for pointing this out! I can still remember a time when Apple referred to wifi routers as "AirPort Base Stations." This isn't new in the world of Apple. But because everyone is so fixated on "AI" being the buzzword, they tend to forget that Apple has been laying down the groundwork on ML for years.
Even my old iPhone 8 Plus has a Neural Engine in the A11 Bionic processor! There's been a LIDAR scanner in the iPhone Pro models since the 13 Pro. Whenever Apple talks about how many cores are in the Neural Engines of their Silicon, they're referring to how powerful the AI will be in their devices. The major difference is that Apple is trying to balance the good ML/AI can bring against the bad. Google, Microsoft & others seem too content with letting the latter part loose and only for some minor benefits that are too intrusive into people's lives.

Maybe the passthrough cameras combined with the fov and screens are incredible and itll really feel like wearing goggles.. you'll be able to walk around very comfortably and do stuff with your hands.. maybe even do something complicated like chisle or paint while using the headset to help you in some way.. which is totally not the case with current vr headsets.. i'm hoping it nails that feeling like you look at your hands and they just look like your hands but I doubt its that magical.. i feel like there is gotta be some warping and weird looking stuff as the depth sensor looks around.. maybe a cluttered room has all sorts of weird shadows and bending of objects.. since the cameras are away from your face and they render to postage stamp sized screens that are projected through 4 different lenses before it reaches your eye maybe it'll just make everything feel kinda floaty and far away and you'll be afraid to bump into stuff.. maybe someone walks in front of you and all they gotta do is spin around or wave some objects in front of you and itll look like 3d mush.. or you turn off the lights and the headset wigs out.. we'll see.. maybe its a bit clunky.. or maybe its well worth $4,000 and the dream of VR is real.. it got a good processor and screen so maybe its gonna be brilliant. the demo videos they did really look churched up to me though.. especially the one where the guy catches a soccer ball from his kid with his feet.. there is so much going on in that scene that i doubt itll look all perfect like that in practice.. and im assuming the device doesn't work outside.. so ill wait till non apple sicophants and employees get their hands on it and give their impressions.. its a computer entirely built on pass through and im not convinced this is gonna be all that special yet.. may just be a glorified quest 2. It's gotta have some kick ass screens that deliver something mind-blowing as if holograms are in your life or something if apple wants to spark a revolution

The screens sound like they're pretty good, and M2 is a great chip so that's good. I wonder if they actually use pancake lenses though or if it's old tech lenticular? I've seen some comments saying the FOV is only 75 though which hopefully is just people repeating incorrect information because an FOV of 75 would put it pretty close to the worst FOV on the market.
It always confuses me that Passthrough video lags at all, like why can my phone show me what's coming from the camera but old VR headsets have lag?
It'll be interesting to see comparisons of this and the Quest 3 when it launches that's for sure.

As someone with a visual impairment, I see the potential with this product as IMMENSE. My biggest question is if this would even work on someone with nystagmus like me, which means my pupils are constantly shaking rapidly, which might screw up the eye tracking. Assuming if it does though, my god I might be one of those early adopters. Right now, dual monitor setups are pretty impractical and a pain to use for me, needing to fully turn my head and lean in to see the contents on screen. In AR though, I could use my physical monitor as my primary display, but have smaller displays as close to me, and as large as I need them in places where physical monitors just couldn't go. Imagine if it could see text from a distance and read it to me, or do the same with people. Simply not being constrained to physical space and being able to change the size/position of anything at any time I imagine is such a huge, huge deal for those of us who are vision impaired. I will be trying this in an Apple Store as soon as I get the chance.

I was disappointed that the Mac Pro is even more expensive... a case and motherboard shouldn't cost frickin' $3,000 more than the Studio. They really seem to be gouging the people they should be appealing to more... The stuff they showed for FaceTime should be great. I want to be Memoji though, not just cool effects. Hope apps like Camo Studio just get even more powerful. Vision Pro... as a laptop replacement it could make a lot of sense, it just isn't there yet for the price/performance. But if you look at even this $3499 as a replacement for 1) laptop 2) 8K + 3D TV and 3) surround sound system... the price isn't bad at all. If it can deliver on all of that. Walking around? No. It looks goofy and the eyes thing is creepy. It looks like a scuba mask ate your face and you are drowning in these videos. LOL

the M2 ultra looks like it will be a beast for training ML models like LLama. I own several NVidia cards for programming and doing ML. To get the memory equivalent of M2Ultra, it would cost you 45K for 4 A100/40G. My M2Max beats my RTX 2060 6G by 2x for most small training. As much as I like expandability, I don't love the idea of bending over for Nvidia or handing over my lungs and liver to "buy more to save more".

I think the Vision pro is over engineered and costs to much, not that i dont believe the price is unfair, its crap ton of sensors, processing, expensive display parts and tricky to manufacture optical elements. BUT, Apple have gone all in on engineering a product that people will wear on the Tube in an office walking down the street, like headphones, but to work in the fashion sence you have to see people with them so you dont feel ridiculous. @ $3.5K that's not happening. so i'm calling this a slow fail, ijustine will get one for her CZcams channel but there just won't be enough units for critical mass. What might happen is other manufacturers ride the hype train and introduce a product that does 80% of this stuff and dumps the idea of being a EDC wearable item, to be a just when you need it, immersive gaming and entertainment, telepresence in high value situations and events. at 1/6 of the cost

Pass... I will definitely pass the Vision Creepy Pro.. And the price tag is not the main reason, why I will skip this product.
Don't get me wrong, it's a cool idea, but the execution is terrible with a complete lack of users needs. For example.... for the past 15 years I work professionally as a designer - I design a lot of mobile and desktop softwares. And I'm pretty good at this, I can work really fast and accurate. BUT.... this thing here works on a battery (attachable battery, don't get me started on this madness..) that can last only 2 hours. What kind of PRO user will work only 2 hours on any kind of project??
OK.. maybe it's not for every PRO-user and Apple has a very different understanding what a PRO user is. Maybe it's for a gamers? Ok, but if I'm a PRO-gamer, that goes ot a lot of competitions and play games all day long..... wait.... First problem: battery. OK, we know about that. Second problem: the LACK OF GAMES for apple ecosystem. Sorry but they talk about this "Death Stranding" game for the past two years. There is a lot of other games out there and this is not the best one, or the game that every gamer play.
So... what else? Family stuff...like watching a movie? Nobody will sit alone in a room to watch a movie by itself, with a screen attached on his face, come on Apple. And don't get me started on the part of the presentation, where a father goes to take a picture of his kids with the Vision Pro on his head. Creeeeeeeeeeepy! And on the bottom of all that is the price of course. $3500 is a lot! Yes, it has amazing screen and amazing cameras, the hardware is amazing and all... but it doesn't make any sense when you think how you are going to spend your time with this gadget.
So.... sorry for the long comment, but this product is ridiculous. To be honest, they had the opportunity to create something truly amazing, but for some reason they didn't. Next...

Meh, Apple sucks. How depressing is it that the company marketed it's way to the top by convincing people their wares were superior (and cooler) than the competition (they never were). I'm endlessly baffled people are willing to fork out a premium for their devices while being held hostage by their walled gardens, all while getting lessor system specifications than had they just purchased a PC. Seriously, there's nothing tangible to justify the purchase of Apple devices at those price tags....everything is backwards, you would expect the price of Apple devices to be less that of PC hardware if only to justify their closed architecture (it's why game consoles are cheaper, same closed arch mass produced == cheap). Maybe one day people might realise they've been suckered by Apples marketing, 25 years in since Jobs re-assumed control....still doesn't seem likely. Oh well i guess.
