- We take the new DJI Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional quadcopters out for some test flights! Eric Cheng of DJI joins us to discuss how these new quads differ from previous models in terms of their flight capability and cameras, bringing in features previously introduced in the Inspire 1. We then put these quadcopters up in the air to test the new stabilization systems and 4K video!

As a Phantom 3 Pro owner, I can tell you that this is a superior product as compared to other brands. Absolutely love the ease of use and capabilities. The footage is beyond good and the gimbal is dialed in. What I will say is that I had the worst customer service experience dealing with DJI in North America when filing a claim to replace my drone that landed in the bottom of a lake. Totally my fault. Didn't let it warm up enough in the morning and flew it over water after storing it in my vehicle over night at 36*. Way too cold. Not my brightest moment. I offered to "purchase" a new one from them. Looking for just the platform and didn't need the accessories since I still had my originals. It took them over 2 months to get my situation handled even while taking my money. When they shipped it to me they FAILED to provide a shipping address on the package and I almost watched it get sent back to CA from FEDEX. I had to race across town and pick it up myself. I was irritated. DJI gave me conflicting tracking information that didn't match up to FEDEX data.
My point is by all means get a DJI Phantom 3 Pro. It's awesome, easy and fun. But, if you need it repaired, or upgraded etc., make sure you find a local dealer, or drone store. You will be much happier. Try to avoid calling DJI for services. It's a bit of a pain.

I flew one of these today against a fairly strong wind, I can vouch that it really does hold itself in place, and the camera is incredibly still. Wonderful piece of kit

Nice clarity from the camera but when panning around it looks like the image is a little choppy. Only slow movements look smooth. It looks like that on all the Phantom 3 footage I have seen so far and I wonder if that can or will be smoothed out via firmware or is that a limitation of the camera itself.
Ben7seven7 I wonder about the stuttering of the video too. It was the same with the videos with the phantom 1.
Tested is that a problem with the videosoftware? Or is the filmed footage itself stuttering?

the fps is probably to low.
Its more likely to be youtubes awful compression.
Doan08 they said that the video is 60FPS in the video.
Pippin but the parts that were shot with the normal camera are fluid. So I dont think it is youtubes fault

We bought a Phantom 2 Vision+ about a year ago. The machine is quite nice but the customer service is terrible (at least for us). From start we had problems with an unfocused camera (blurry image) and after a lot of work got it sent to DJI for repair. 5 weeks later we got it back but nothing had been done on it! We had to fix the focus problem ourself by carefully disassemble the camera and adjust the focus of the lens. Needless to say that we will think twice before buying something from DJI again.
Sadly no. We tried to explain and show that the picture quality was blurry. If they did something to repair it it I guess they maybe changed the camera electronics (but I doubt that). However the experience was bad and the cost of shipping it for repair was put on us. It would have been nice if the camera or the whole gimbal were replaced, but that isn't the case. Even though we repaired it ourself as best as possible it still doesn't feel quite sharp, but it's much better than it was.

wow, I'm really impressed how stable it was, when you were adjusting exposure at the bay scene, It was like a picture taken using tripod. My phantom 3 professional is arriving tomorrow, can't wait!
I do have a question, I saw some rolling shutters when it pans quickly, is it pretty bad?

Awesome! I just brought one and did my first test flight today... the Gimbal lock is a swine to get back on though!
Also you mentions it uses Russian satellites.. does not really help us down here in Sydney Australia where I've just found out today that a lot of populated areas are no-fly zones as well as DJI have limited the drone to 400m elevation... I'de love to get it higher, say in the outback... but to fly in populated zones or do shots for real estate (AKA make money) we have to do a course and certification which is $10,000 aussie dollars! I have the Phantom 3 Standard with the 2.7k cam which so far on my first test flight was good - just remember (as I learned) keep the front pointing away from you so if you toggle left it goes left.. if it's facing you goes right as it's facing the opposite direction - would be nice if DJI came up with a POV from the remote so no matter which way the aircraft is pointing it would move in conjunction to your POV - so basically regardless of if it's facing forward, towards you or sideways it will stick left or right... it's only my first day using it so maybe there is a way of doing that.. just have to learn it!
Awesome aircraft though and I'll have as much fun as I can in our limited fun-police controlled Australia!

The rectilinear lens frame is a lot more coherent to view than the fisheye. Overall, great product by DJI and great video by the Tested team.

It's amazing how many businesses are starting to use these sort of things with the high quality cameras for safety inspections on hard to get at places. Power companies are using drones to inspect long stretches of power-lines for wear and tear in a few hours in what used to take a man months to completed with a dangerous to do visual inspection. They are also using drones with cameras mounted on top facing up to fly under bridges and inspect them for damage before deciding if they need to have men do the dangerous job of actually climbing under the bridge to preform any actual needed maintenance.
Forgot to ask - I heard somewhere that a soon to be released update will be able to keep the Phantom focused on you - so say if you set it at 10m away and at 10m above the ground then if you're riding a bike it will automatically follow you and keep you in frame - is this true and if not you should do that as hard to control a UAV and ride a bike plus keep the camera aimed at you. That would be a great feature as long as it had also the feature that you're so carried away and posing and there's a tree in the way of the Phantom you don't wreck it lol
"Follow me" mode already exists in the current firmware.
Only reason I was thinking of going for 3DR Solo vs this was orbit and other auto flight modes. Now DJI is introducing those features with P3 Standard and coming to P3 other models soon. What's your opinion?(if we disregard the customer service comparison). I want to trust 3DR but feel like DJI might be better on GPS hold etc than 3DR?

Venus would be a great candidate for a long still exposure test. It's up fairly high in the sky at dusk every clear night for most of this (2015) summer. Any movement would show up as streaking or blurring. You'd have to find another launch point, the fog rolls in the bay just about the same time.
bought a Phantom 3 Advanced but the Pro went on sale and returned it for the Pro that's coming Monday, I can't wait.
One of the thing that needs to be add to your line is a chair and a hood. If someone is going to use it for a long time your arm are going to get tired. A hood to block out sun as this would be useful for fire watch.
