At a Tommy show he asked ‘are there any guitarists in the audience?’ And someone shouted ‘not anymore’.
Lol thats kinda funny and sad at the same time :d
Ain’t that the truth.👍🤣🤣
He asked if there were any guitarists at a recent gig I was at. Basically, everyone there. But we were all very shy and slow in raising our hands!
haha that's gold
Self taught as a kid. When he listened to music while learning, he thought the bass, melody, and rhythm were being played on one instrument so he learned all the parts together. Amazing
Tommy and Phil grew up not far from where I am, it's just a couple of hours drive north of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Alas Phil is no more with us, but you might want to watch CZcams videos that features him, he was amazing as well. Two brothers, from a small rural city. What a pair.
Tommy Emmanuel is one of Australia's most respected guitarists. Legend!!
Dead set legend ay
one of the world's best
Australia's? lol. I think you mean 'The WORLD'S'!
He's an American citizen now. He's ours
When Chet Atkins, Les Paul and Eric Clapton say you are one of the all-time best, you probably are!
There is nobody but Tommy Emanuel.
Definitely not prearranged. Tommy's a truly inspired improvisor. He can do what others just can't. The absolute GOAT.
he plays this EXACT arrangement on most live shows. But he is a king for sure. The best around
@@randomstoragespace He's performances aren't the same. There some comping patterns which are there, but the performances are certainly different and he chooses different kinds of chords in his "basic" comping patterns also. Compare this for example to this czcams.com/video/2Y4hH27fABs/video.html. Doesn't take long after he makes different decisions in his comping.
@ManWithoutThePants seen him like 8 times over 13 years. Seen this arrangement 3 times atleast.
He will add different runs into all his stuff but this is most certainly prearranged. Can find dozens of CZcams clips of this arrangement too.
@@randomstoragespace I mean the basic structure can be prearranged, but he does switch things up quite a bit.
Saw TE and his brother Phil in the late 80’s. Phil was just as good. RIP Phil.
Phil was always said to be arguably better, but the two of them playing off each other live was absolute magic. Both brothers were phenominal.
Tommy was once asked what it felt like to be the best guitarist in the world. His response was "I'm not even the best guitarist in the family".
I've seen him live twice. There's nothing like it. You don't expect one man and one guitar sounding the way he does. He's just the best there is imo
Five times, here. Ditto. One of my favorites.
The Aussie beast !!! He is amazing, and so is his brother his brother passed about 6 years ago.. RIP Phil..
Tommy is also a great guy, everyone loves him. If you haven’t done it already, check out Classical Gas, another phenomenal performance from our Aussie legend.❤️
Isn’t it great that this performance by Tommy is from Mason Williams’ channel! To think that the composer of “Classical Gas” is himself a fan of Tommy is a wonderful testament to his amazing talent. I wonder if they’ve ever played it in tandem? All the best from Sydney! 😊
I have been watching Tommy and his late brother performing since I was a young teenager when they were playing at a concert in park in Brisbane . They were young kids themselves at the time
I've seen many of Tommy's performances and I would bet serious money that the performance was NOT pre-written. He is a master improvisor.
Tommy Emmanuel is a legend! He's got many amazing arrangements.
How can anyone listen to Tommy Emmanuel and not be happy? He is so full of joy, it's a game to him at this stage :)
You've never heard Justin Bieber then. Right?
Hey Peaked. Reviewing a view Tommy clips (because of your initiation request) I've watched before and noticed you have watched them all as well.. Isn't he bloody amazing!!
Hope your rehab goes well.
@@briangill4000 Haha! Sprung!!!!Seriously though, he could just be the best classical guitarist on the planet right now, even though it’s hard to label him as purely classical. He’s so much more than that! ♥️❤️
@@richardgray8593 No I haven't. But is he as good as you? lol
@@girlsblouse7866 Tommy Emmanuel is better than I am, but Justin is the best of all time.
He is past amazing!
Saw Tommy in Northern Louisiana last year in a small venue. It was stunning!! And he is so fun during the show. He is truly amazing!
Tommy once said he doesn’t plan a set list, ( quote “I’ve been doing this so long I just walk out alone and see where it goes…)”
Great reaction as always, much love from Italy ❤. Guitar player here, Tommy is one of the BIG BIG, every performance of Guitar Boogie (the song he plays in this video) is completely different, there are some standard parts he plays every time, but most of it is totally improvised and he always create BEAUTIFUL licks, progressions, rhytms etc., he's just a monster. I suggest you to check out "Tommy emmanuel - Guitar Boogie (HD)" , my favourite version of guitar boogie, as long as other really talented guitar players: Mike Dawes, Jon Gomm and Martin Miller !
The actual title of the background basis of this is Guitar Boogie Shuffle. It's been performed by many in the past but Tommy really does take to a new level ;o)
Best guitar player ever IMO - you got this right brother
Dirty, clean, nasty, shreddy, musical, acoustic, dope ... you've found our Tommy! Cheers from Australia!
Saw him twice in Warragul Victoria 30 years ago and I'm still amazed.
Tommy and Phil Emmanuel - Rondo A La Turke ...check this out.
Have you seen his live 'Classical Gas'? or another gem is ' Initiation' where he amazingly you hear the sound of rain in a thunder storm and the stomping of feet by Indigenous Australians doing a Corrobboree Dance, it's just brilliant. Welcome to the most admired Guitarist in Australia )if not the world)
native and original talent in the veins
And he is an Aussie!
You only just found him? I've known Tommy since 1975 when I first arrived in Oz. He's a great old friend of mine and we have played together many times in Sydney, both on stage and in the studio. I often tell the story of the day we were finishing off a session and Tommy asked if I could give him a lift home as his car was in for repairs. We went out to my car and I started putting my gear in the trunk. Tommy, on the other hand, was taking his acoustic OUT of its case and he climbed into the front seat and played all the way back to his place. Then we went inside and had a cup of coffee and he played the whole time. He just never stops playing.
That's how you get as good as Tommy
You mean "... me and my pet crocodile" - he's an Aussie legend; and he doesn't even sight read music. Winging it into orbit!!! Thanks for a great reaction. Cheers from Sydney, AU.
GOOD LORD ❤ THE BEST 🤠
Tommy is the most skilled guitarist ever. That's not just my opinion. All of the Mt. Rushmore's of guitar have claimed it. Les Paul to Chet Atkins, Roy Clark and many other of the guitar God's have proclaimed Tommy tops.
Tommy is GOD
He's been my favorite since I first heard/saw him.
Tommy is Australia’s acoustic legend and you’re right one of the best. Check out “ classical gas” you will enjoy. Welcome to the rabbit hole. 🎸🔥🇦🇺👍
Can't read music, self taught, a legend. Try his cover of 'classical gas' if you haven't heard it yet.
Definitely WILL DO!
His ability to play Stevie Ray Vaughan's "STEVIE'S BLUES" on an acoustic guitar, albeit it has pick-ups and a microphone inside it is phenominal. SRV, may he rest in peace, was a phenominal guitarist in his own right. Tommy can play anything in any genre. His brother Phil Emmanuel, may he rest in peace also, was incredible too. Try reacting to some of the stuff the did together, including playing the same guilar together at the same time.
Cool! I've been covering Tommy Emmanuel songs for many years, while being a huge fan of most of the jazzier stuff you're listening to on this channel :)
Waaaazaaaaa
Wait'll ya see him do it left-handed, behind his back, standing on his head in 3 feet of water, all while eating a sandwich!..Very impressive!
JUST amazing. !!!
I don't know how, but it touched my heart. keep it up please. here's a big thank you from me. :)
That guitar had the best the in his life 😅 to be played in such a legendary way
Chet Atkins called this man the best he ever heard! high praise!
Second half is "Blues for Stevie" (SRV)
Check out more of Tommy's work - you won't be disappointed.
This isnt even his best Live stuff. Tommy is a king. a KING!
He’s got one of his many guitar camps coming up in Nashville
And now hear Monte Montgomery play Little Wing.
Not sure if anyone's mentioned, but it might be worth pointing out that what he's playing is not just a generic boogie riff but a specific song: Arthur Smith's "Guitar Boogie," a big and influential hit from 1948. Before Tommy hits the stratosphere, he takes care to deliver hopped-up versions of Smith's first few choruses almost note-for-note - an amazing tribute. Spectacular performance, as always. Here's the original: czcams.com/video/SfF7UmXfXSI/video.html
Ain't NOBODY like Tommy.
Well, there was. His brother Phil who passed away in 2019. Google them playing together. 🙂
I’ve seen him play Dixie and The Battle Hymn of the Republic at the same time, one of them on the bass strings and the other on the treble strings.
His guitar went outside after that for a smoke
Try classical gas, initiation, and anything you can find with his brother Phil, R.I.P.
Aussie legend 👏👏👏
You mean, "me and my pet" salt water crocodile... Yep, a real nice bit of guitar wonderment, from a guy who can't sight read music! Thanks for posting. Cheers from Sydney.
I have been listening to Tommy for about 30 years. I am from Germany. In those years in Dortmund there were regularly performances of guitar players in small concerts.
Tommy normally used to play for 3 hours or more.
Since that time my favourite is "Initiation". I that time I learned what Tommy is able to do with his guitar.
czcams.com/video/Kjk8iYaL19g/video.html
Enjoy
You should - and need to - check out more of Tommy. He is one of the best! And that's not what only I am saying, but ... Tommy is a CGP (aka. Certified Guitar Player). This title (!) only got 4 persons ever!!! The CPG titel received John Knowles, Jerry Reed, Steve Warriner and Tommy Emmanuel! That title was claimend by the great Chet Atkins and Todd Rundgren for the best guitar players in the world. So it's official that Tommy is one of the very best guitar players on earth! So acutally you can't go wrong with him! And he is a nice and funny guy, too. Very down to earth! ♥
Australian Legend
The logo with the Bee is ....... HAHAHA
Several years ago the official photographer for the international flat picking championship came to my restaurant table and grabbed me (friend of mine naturally) Said he wanted me to meet someone. Spent about 15 minutes with Tommy. Outstanding human being.
The most versatile guitarist around. Doesn’t read music.
This part is Stevie's Blues. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Maybe the best Electric Blue Guitarist that ever Lived, and Tommy is getting it on an acoustic guitar, albeit it has pickups and a mich inside. His being named a Certified Guitar Player by Chet Atkins means a lot, but it is like calling the Sun Hot, 😂😂😂
People don't just find Tommy. People tell you about him.
He was already ...'found' brother, but I get where you're coming from.
I know Tommy and Phil Emanuel personally, even though Phil has passed now. I saw these guys back in the 70s and 80s when they were a duo. I have to laugh when people say Van Halen etc and call him the greatest guitarist ever. I asked Phil once what do you think of Eddie and Stevie Via etc and he laughed and said who are they?
I suggest you to check out Marcin Patrzałek and his arng. of Carmen Habanera 😊
I agree,he must one of the worlds best😊
You got it! Im curious :D
Благодарим ви!
Da faaaadaaa!
❤
🎸🎶🤘✌️
Check out his earlier stuff with brother Phil on electric guitar. Both were fantastic!
Than you never saw Vlatko Stefanovski, Emanuel played with him a lots of time and said Vlatko is from other planet....
Thanks for turning us on to Tommy Emmanuel. But 12 bar blues going through every note? Where did you get that from? 12 bar blues is named that because it's 12 bars bro.
☮️✌️❤️🇦🇺🥂
CGP 'nuff said
The second blues is Stevie's Blues (Stevie Ray Vaughan). He is still the best acoustic player and his brother Phil was fantastic on electric. Look up some of the insane things the did to gether.
Hi man, check out a guitar duet featuring Chrissy lenee and Tommy Emanuel called "Cleopatras eye", it's awesome!!
Thi man is from onether planet best in the world
Is that Jimmy Herring coming past at 2:17?
Tommy is probably in my top 100 students.
If only he would listen, he could be top 50.
🏌️♂️🇦🇺🤙🏻
Only he's not he makes everything up that's why it sounds like he knows what he's playing is because he made the tune.
G'day, check out his song Initiation, the mist recent version .it will blow your mind. 🇭🇲🤙🎸🎼
Until I see someone beat that 😅 im sticking with Tommy 😅
Eee - man - you - elle
That moment you realise that Phil has only become the best guitarist in the world since his brother Phil Emmanuel passed away in 2018. Tommy used to play rythym for Phil. Check out some CZcams videos of them playing together. They will blow your mind.
Phil was phenomenal but he always said Tommy was the better guitarist.
Check out Tommy Emmanuel's classical Gas! --- Has a little bit of everything (even compared to this!) Pull off's, tone notes, ...
Try classic gas.
🇦🇺🇦🇺👍
And now you are ready for the actual greatest guitar player, Marcin Patrzałek 🔥
2 people recommended this already :D :D :D im really curious now. Marcin comin right up!
theatrics dont make for a better guitar player, he is not even close to being the best, i am guessing you dont have a large pool of knowledge when it comes to guitar players
@@iancremmins4727 Sad "Theatrics" is the only thing you're seeing. His performance and techniques are extraordinary, and im talking about a completely solo performance... not about John Petrucci's solos or "Technical Difficulties". Also it's not all about how fast and insane the technique is, it's about the actual musical licks/riffs the musical ideas that he gets that are sick in the blues/jazz sphere.
@@imstankface not saying he isnt talented, just saying he isnt the greatest by far
@@iancremmins4727I’m guessing you don’t have…….narcissistic 🤡
OK, then you aren't watching enough guitar. Try:
Leo Kottke, Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin, Steve Morse, Larry Coryell, Wes Montgomery, Guthrie Goven, Steve Vai...
E 4 bars + A 2 bars + E 2 bars B 1 bar + A 1 bar + E 1 bar + B 1 bar = 12 bar blues, but not always.
czcams.com/video/t67XhmvvSDE/video.html Phil E
try this one, you will never view the guitar in the same way again after hearing Tommy doing initiation
czcams.com/video/x346VoDX3pA/video.html
Yep, fantastic how one man, one guitar can illustrate a million square miles of empty night desert, a gentle breeze blowing, and a sacred Aboriginal Initiation ceremony.
I also loved Tommy and his brother Phil playing Ghost Riders In The Sky. That was the first gig they did after we signed and presented Phil with his first G&L guitar. Green. The only colour I didn't like!
Classical Gas by Tommy is astonishing.
@@Quinctili yes it really does transport you to a mystical realm
Stanky
I don't think that the late, great, Glen Campbell would be able to keep up with Tommy!
And yet not a single number one hit? Just a stunt guitarist
I prefer Naudo. Search Juan & Naudo
Not half the player his brother was..........
Nope he's the kind of player you watch on you tube but you wouldn't put an album of his and listen to it. A better guitar player by far is someone Isaac Guillory. None of this shredding $h/t but far more nuance and listenable.
Trust me, when you see him live a few metre's from your face doing an entire piece of music in ONLY harmonics, your life and perception of music will change forever.
