Tommy Emmanuel Nine Pound Hammer
• Tommy Emmanuel Nine ... - Hudba
Tommy is crazy. If you listen to more of his live stuff, he never does it the same twice. All improvisation. And such an awesome and humble guy. Love him!
Absolutely the best guitar player and as you said an even better guy.
If you haven’t seen it already Rick Beato’s recent interview with Tommy it is perfection. I thought I’d watch a few minutes and then come back to it later because it’s almost an hour, but he was so genuine and entertaining I couldn’t bring myself to pause it.
The greatest guitar player alive
This may not be true, but I can't think of anyone better.
Chet Atkins is dead, so yeah....pretty much.
He's one of the greatest "acoustic string guitar" players who ever lived. Which is the most challenging guitar type to master.
Guitars are so diverse so you need to specify the type of guitar
@@adams546 The fact is that Tommy is just as good on the electric...
God bless Tommy for the joy and entertainment he shares with us.
Watching you two enjoy old Tommy makes MY heart happy too.
Tommy is one of those very, very few people who can do whatever he wants on a guitar, whenever he wants. He's just in another league. I've seen him up close (really close) at some very small, intimate gigs, and got to chat to him afterwards. An incredibly humble man, full of praise for other musicians and very generous with his time. No demons, only angels.
When you look for the Double Bass Player that isn't even there............................................................ youve been "Tom and Rolled" then brushed off.
When he is at guitar trade fares there promoting Maton guitars all of the other guitarists refuse to go on after Tommy , he goes last
Its true , my son worked for a Kosmic music and they had trade stands for Fender , Line SIix and heaps of other products here in Australia
I consider him like a mad scientist on the guitar. There are certain structures in the song but a lot of what he does improvises along the way. Just like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy has mastered the instrument to where the music flows through him and the guitar. Some of the chords that he plays together no one would think of playing and are sheer brilliance
Maybe the best that's ever picked up a six string. Tommy's only limitation is his imagination!
There is an early track on CZcams called “Initiation “ it’s from an indigenous perspective. The range of sounds he produces out of that guitar is frightening.
Both.
Broadly of course Preplanned & enjoyed off the moment reaction.
I have seen Tommy in Sydney over the 1980s with his brother Phil (r.i.p.). He is better live than on video.
hours and hours of practice even on the morning of his concerts
The man simply cannot help himself....When he plays...He has FUN...(That's why they call it "Playing" the guitar)
I've met Tommy many times as we both lived in Melbourne Australia and assure you he can plan and wing it as he feel to..Apart from this he's the most sympathetic man I've known..And he's a proud Aussie!!!
He's winging it, always. Sure, he has some standard licks he tends to use in each song but, he just likes to go a little crazy. Whether he's one of the greatest solo players or not is up to you, but he's certainly the greatest one man band live player.
Every TE performance is unique. He never plays a song the same way twice.
Tommy and his Brother Phil were in a band together in the early 1980’s, called Goldrush. They hard 3 guitarists. Tommy was the drummer. That’s how hot that band was.
Goldrush changed my life when I first saw them!
@@richardkenna149 Remember the Banjo?
I and a few work colleagues working in a club in the early 90s had a small Sunday afternoon concert at a club where hardly anyone turned up. Tommy gathered us around him and he played his guitar. It was amazing to see this dude whom makes the guitar talk….
Tommy is a master. The king of improv. He can just walk out and entertain.
He's not fn winging it !
Same every time , seen him live many times here in Australia ✌️♥️🇦🇺🎸
Love your reaction. TY so much for being open minded. This dude knew Mr Chet Atkins and the Carter family. LEGEND.
I've seen Tommy in a few interviews over the years and he is a really humble guy, a little bit on the shy side from what I can remember.
I grin like a crazy man when people encounter Tommy for the first time.
His brother was also brilliant on the guitar in a show they did together many years ago where Tommy puts his arms around his brother and starts playing his brothers guitar at the same time 4 hands playing one guitar, the video is on CZcams but I can't remember the name.
I did one of his guitar clinics at the Maton factory a few years ago. I didn't pick up too much in playing tips (way over my head), but it was pretty cool just hangin out with him. He's such a humble guy, and he'll talk to anyone about music forever. If you just talk to him, you would have no idea what an amazing talent he is...he's just like your average nice guy. I love that you guys are spreading the word!
He'll know the melody and the chord progression and he wings it from there, every time.
Great reaction guys! I love this video of Tommy. I've seen him live three times and what stands out with his stunning virtuosity is his unbelievable timing and rhythm. His percussive parts are just great to witness. You guys are right ... this is about musicality, talent, joy .. Tommy embraces it all and we're the better for it.
every time is different! and awesome!
I saw him live a couple of years ago, he is the most talented guitarist i’ve seen, amazing!
I love the part at 3:08 -> 3:20! "Darn, dude has some skills! Wait... whaat.. Now I'm just lost. Wtf just happened?" :D
I love watching the smiles on your faces. I think your reaction is the same for everyone who listens to Tommy. Please react to a song called "Those Who Wait". So beautiful... I get teary every time I listen to it.
Tommy just wings it from his set list to his the way he plays each song.
I've known Tommy for 40 years..he was always this good. I think I've only seen him without a guitar twice in that time Haha! P.S. He's always had a wicked sense of humor!
That intro song sounded sick so I looked you guys up on Spotify and you guys are 🔥🔥🔥
What an entertainer. I'm lucky, I've seen him live, and it's an absolute treat.
You two are so much fun to watch!
I'm an Aussie, so Tommy is Legend Status but I must say you guys must be one of the best reaction crews out there. I love you two. Awesome guys, keep it up. Oh and the show too.
You guys are fun to watch Tommy with, my reactions are a mirror of yours ... except when he he turned around and said "take it, boys" I actually snorted 🤣😂
It amazes me tommy can’t read or write 1 note of music. A musical beast.
He’s winging it just 10,000 hours of playing.
Unreal. Smiled all the way through that.
Love the reaction! Yes he is certainly one of the top players, in any genre, ever!
Wow that was amazing
Acoustic guitar...plays so great.
you should watch tommy and his late brother phil do a small concert together. it will blow your mind.
It’s been two years since this has been posted but to answer your question, he wings it. He says never to play it the same way twice.
All improvised in this song and many many others.. There are a few he plays the same every time but usually he likes to switch things up.
The answer is "YES" to both halves of that question. He has a basic road map for every song, and "Hundreds" of riffs or licks that he knows will work. No two performances are identical...
He's definitely winging it!!!
He personifies joy on his guitar
Legend 👏
You must go to see him live if you get a chance. 3 time for us and not near enough. I'd say he is in the top 5 greatest guitarist ever, if not #1.
Tommy wings it every time. When he was younger he played in John Farnham band.
9lb hammer is my favorite indica strain.
Those improvisations are just that. They are not pre-planned. Check out his interview with Rick Beato where he talks about the art of improvisation.
Love the channel BTW
Tommy: I'm gonna play THAT guitar, there!
Guitar: *guitar version of a heart attack ensues*
A long way to Harlan and That's where I frickin live ! Harlan County Kentucky !
My best friend is a good friend of Tommy. He does both. Check out, "Initiation" by Tommy. You will be amazed at the sounds he can get out of a guitar.
Espetacular!!!!!!!!
Lol oh yeah, he knows hes killing it. Definitely go see him, he plays like 320 days a year during not pandemic. The Christmas shows are usually with others and that's fun, but trust me, see him by himself
Strrraaayyyahhhh !!!🇦🇺
Aaaaaaaamazing
This is amazing,Tommy Emmanuel is on another planet !
He's always winging it. He never plays a song the same way twice.
straight improve, every time. best there is :)
Hey guys, Check out Tommy & his brother playing Mozart's Rhondo ala Turk.
Top of the heap
Suzique, I thought you were really funny! Love Tommie! He describes how he plays the way he does in a Ted Talk. There is a young bluegrass artist who has played with Tommie. His name is Billy Strings!
Not to Blame: Yeah !!!
Solo is absolutely imrpovised. Most parts. It is different every time. Just look at all the different versions. It is brilliant
Lolol he has a basic chord structure, in that sense theres a plan. But when hes by himself like this he can make stuff for days. Also, he did that to his guitar with a screwdriver so it would make that noise.
He considers himself a percussionist first lol I'm not lying
Yeah I once heard him describe himself as a drummer who also happens to play the guitar.
Check out one of his videos of Guitar Boogie if you want to see improvisation at its finest.
AND just as GOOD playing electric also
That thumb is a weapon !
The world needs more feel good music like this instead of all the angry nasty evil sounding "stuff" that constantly reminds us of negative destructive and evil things the world shoves in our faces every single day RIP TOMMY
Ive seen Tommy twice and there were some commons tunes between the sets. I dont know if the arrangements evolved or if he was just doing the jazz thing where he just goes where it goes. Probably both. Either way its just too damn good.
he does not read music, and he only uses a basic outline of a tune, it's all improvisation, he is the master.
Worlds best!
Greatest guitarist alive
No. 40-50 years. Never plays anything the same way twice.
Tommy paying homage to the great Merle Travis.
He knows every note and every co...give him 1/2 hou notice Nd he’ll pull out thituff
Hey guys. Are you too young to know Chet Atkins?
Tommy was one the the many understudies of Chet’t
Tommy was 15 when already a virtuoso joined Chet. Tommy was one of chets closest friends to his death. What pedigree!
He definitely wings it - takes a lot of risks.
He's not just killing a lead. He's killing bass, rhythm, drums and lead. And add in a vocal to go.
To answer your question, Yes. It's his choice. He could play it note for note every night, just like this performance. But he'd be bored. Tommy is the most skilled guitarist who has ever lived. That's not only my opinion, but the opinion of legends like Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and others. If you look up on Google "Who's the greatest guitar player of all time?" You'll get Jimmy Hendrix. This is why you shouldn't put any faith in the internet. Jimi admitted after hearing Terry Kath of the band Chicago, that Terry "blew him away". No one who has lived or is alive today could out duel Tommy note for note. So Tommy has an idea of what he's doing here, but he can do what ever he wants at any given time. He's not a master. He's the Grand Master of guitar.
Check his superspeed one called docs guitar/blue smoke/cannonball rag💯👌
Tommy wings it every time. His songs are different in each time
Is he winging it or is if strategically planned? Yes
Tina setkic dragon force through the fire and the flames cover at 15 years old awesome awesome thanks 😊🔥🔥🔥
Each time I heard this song is a little bit different :)
Must give a listen to Vic Wooten. If anyone thinks they can paly bass...well....
