@@JM-dr4kj Well, at least in the light novel it is made clear that he is sincerely oblivious to all of Raphtalias advances. In fact, even after Raphtalia somewhat cured his delusions about all the people around him, he still is unable to discern how others feel about him. His interactions are not driven by emotion, but by rationality ("He/She did all this stuff for me, that must mean that he/she somewhat likes me").
That's why he took to L'arc so fast, he was incredibly blunt about everything. No need to discern emotions when the guy literally tells you how he feels.
Now, I could go on, but we would be entering spoiler territory for up to volume 15, so, I won't do that.
Raphtalia melted the frozen heart of someone who literally lost everything and was treated like dirt by the rest of the world, for something he didn't even do. Now that's a best girl right there.

You forgot how he was already considered a hero in his world for saving that one person. He went from being seen and treated as the good person he was to the polar opposite experience, all because their world selfishly took him from his and gave him a shield he never wanted. It's the ultimate fall from grace story...which ironically makes it the ultimate comeback story

2:32 The slave trader is probably the most no bullshit character in the series. He is really neutral with a complete objective business attitude. He doesn't hate slavery, yet doesn't love it either, but since it makes him money he becomes an expert at it.
The fact that Raphtalia seems to show no ill will towards him despite constantly being bought and sold by him (Naofumi is her fourth owner and the fat, blonde bastard was her third) shows that he doesn't even treat the slaves harshly either. Seems to give them just the most basic necessities without harming them.

Episode 2 is probably my favorite.
The way how Noafumi cares for Raphtalia is so heartwarming.
I'd like to think that dispite his original intentions for her to be an outlet for his hatred against Malty, he would have never gone through with it.
And especially with the combat training he puts her through, she ends up being one of his fiercest allies against Malty.
