They don't exist. At least out here in the states. And i mean what i say when i think that raphtalia (or someone like her) is an exception. They truly are someone you meet ONCE in a lifetime. They are an extremely rare type of person and if you think about it history has not been kind to women who stand by their men through anything. We (men) killed off the ones that wouldn't betray their men and kept the ones that would. Is it any wonder why so many myne's are around and so few raphtalia's. Because unfortunately being a myne works.
2:19 that is 10000% a kiss, the blush after they stop, the position of the hands, Raphtalia grabbing him around the neck while Naofumi grabs her waist, the closed eyes, the tilted head, if you think this isn't a kiss, your punishment will only be slightly better than Mynes.
I personally just think it is a hug. The blushing could just be because Naofumi doesn't like/ isn't used to physical affection or felt embarrassed with people walking in on them. As for their hold, considering the height difference between the two and how aggressively Rapthalia hugged him, it would makes sense. I also feel like it was just a hug due to Naofumi's view of Rapthalia as more of his daughter or younger sister than a lover (which will continue on into season 2). For him to kiss her like that wouldn't fit into his view of their relationship.
They Left it open to interpretation on purpose, Weâll find out given time.
Watch Raphtalia's ears. The angle doesn't fit for her to be kissing Naofumi, but rather to have her head next to his.
Its funny how people force their minds to believe that was a kiss! Well, could have been a cheek or forehead kiss, but a real one? Think better... that would be her first kiss, she is really naive and falled in love with him, so obviously she would have died of shyness when those people entered that place! But she looked so cool down... Besides that, she would probably act angrily or shocked towards Filo after she saying "I want that too"!
But now, in a writer perspective, they kissing that time is not good! They need more romance development and leting it open is way better!

This anime reignited my love for anime in general! It showed me that not only do old school anime series rock, but the Japanese animation studios are turning out absolutely stunning and engrossing stories with fantastic animation! I love this series! More! NOW!
I'm glad you feel that way! I got my Dad into new anime through this one as well! There's a lot of amazing new stuff, but the old stuff is amazing too because they didn't have computer help. :)
What I liked the most in this show was the break on the nasty "girls can abuse boys at will" paradigm. I mean, Bitch had framed poor Naofumi for one of the most heinous crimes known - rape - and tarnished his reputation almost irreversibly. Yet, Naofumi managed to find good-quality women (like Raphtalia, Filo, Melty, Queen Mirellia, Therese and even Glass for that matter) who not only respected him as a male individual but also helped him clear his name and show his true benevolent character hidden under his sour armor of cynical anger. We all needed a turn on the tables in order to show male heroes in a positive light at female eyes.

Honestly speaking tho, he would say that he didn't have much of a life back on earth. He lived alone, didn't have friends and seemed he wasn't close to his family there. Some would choose to stay because if you had to choose between a world where you are a hero destined to save the world or go back to a lonely life with close to nothing to go back to?
As for himself, he definitely changed too much. he was calm in the beginning when he was summoned but he went through all that bullshit that Bitch and Trash put him through and he faced it all alone, he became cold. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened to everyone who went through what he did. He finally built something for himself and those close to him chose to stay with him despite the rumors and let his actions show his true character. So at this point, I don't think he will go back to his world.

I watched it 32 times and I can confirm it was a kiss. Naofumis head position and his arms around her waist are indicating that he kissed her, also raphtalias hands around his head meaning that its not a hug but a kiss. Second Naofumi was blushing and he normally doesnt blush when he "hugs" Raphtalia, meaning this was special, a kiss. Third, Filos "no fair" was indicating on the episode when she told Raphtalia that she tried to kiss naofumi, meaning again that Raphtalia kissed Naofumi before Filo.

She has all the same mental and emotional capacity as someone of that age, but is limited by her life experience to date. What she feels for Naofumi is genuine romantic love that is on par with what someone that is twice her chronological age would be capable of.

You know I was reminded of this part of Shield Hero as I was watching Mai begging Sakuta to stay with her at the train station the night before Christmas eve so that he wouldnât die like how Shoko predicted.
Once youâre in one world itâs hard to go back to the one you came from.
After having a fight at work, I can say this cools my heart down

Heres how they kissed:
Factor 1: At 2:17 he goes with the waist grabbing, which you dont ever normally do while hugging
Factor 2: In 2:17 you can see both of them in a kissing position. Both his hands is in a romance position behind her back and she lets her arms on his neck to lean in. Both their heads are in the direction and angle of eachother as well.
Factor 3: In 2:19 if you watch close enough, you will see him opening his mouth after they both were inturrupted indicating kissing. To also mention, if they werent kissing then they wouldnt have had their heads facing the opposite of each other in a angle to position their lips. If they were hugging then their faces wouldnt be facing each other directly. Also, naofumi blushes meaning he was embarassed after finding out they were being watched.
Basically from the camera angle you shouldnt be seeing naofumi's face yet you can. Also if they were hugging why would his face be facing her not away from her. If he was hugging her then his head would be next to hers and we would be able to see his face as well as her hair brushing the side of his face.
But one thing I troubled in was when filo says she want in, she only hugged naofumi not kissed him. But she also probably understood the situation or thought they were hugging.

Looking at it closely, it was (sadly) just a hug. While they were hugging you can see Raphtalias head turned to the side on his shoulder. When filo calls them she then turns her head to look at Naofumi before looking at Filo indicating that her head was just turned on his shoulder

I mean, I don't think there was a kiss, but the embrace man, it felt as if they hadn't seen each other in years, so much yearning and longing. It speaks volumes on its own.
