If you have any questions, ask me in the comments below the video.
In this video, Iâll show a simple solution to a problem with emissive lighting inside Lumion.
I never noticed this myself, until a user named KoorĂłsh messaged me on Instagram saying:
Quick question, how do you use hidden light in Lumion for curved designs? we can use emissive material but if we can't see them they won't render, right? Did you find any solution for this matter?
He means this type of design, which has hidden lights facing the wall.
So, I went to further investigate this issue and found out that if the plane in which you have the emissive material is not facing the render camera, then it wonât render any light.
So, in this video, Iâll show you how you can go from this ---- to this ---- with a very simple technique. Letâs get started!
Oh, by the way, I just launched my Lumion Course. Itâs an in-depth course in which Iâm showing you all the techniques I use to achieve high quality renders with Lumion. Iâll leave a link to it in the description below this video.
This is done using Lumion 9.5 rendering software for architectural visualization. Itâs a great 3D render software that saves a ton of time for architects because it helps you achieve the level of detail and realism not available in any other similar software.
Lumion 9.5 is fully compatible with most 3D modeling software, including Revit, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, 3ds Max, Rhino, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, and many others.
#LUMION #RENDER #LUMION10 - ZĂĄbava
You can copy object in modeling software and just do offset about 5-10cm. Add different material and in lumion create emissive shader with transparency. Then you don't need a photoshopđ
PRO TIP
the best solution is make an extra edge material that should be face to camera, give emiisiveness and make it transparent thats all
Awesome work. Just watched videos on PBR and displacement maps and now this. You're putting out content about crucial details which arent shown by other tutorial channels. kudos to you for that and keep doing what youre doing!
Thank you for your feedback! :) I'll be adding content regularly to my channel, and there will be more soon about PBR and Megascans.
Nuno thank you very much for your free advice and tutorials!
Glad you like them!
Emissive materials in lumion can only cast light if they are visible to the camera, so, if you allow me to share my opinion, I think the ideal solution for this case is by editing the 3D model and make that emissive back side little bit bigger. đ«
Thank you for your feedback. When you say little bigger, you mean like having a ring of light for example facing the camera?
Yep, exactly đ«đđ»
@@ArchAhmetAksoy that might work but you will get this sharp light around, which doesn't happen in this photos I was showing in the beginning.
No No.. with the right amount of emissiveness and very small edges you won't even notice they exist..
@@ArchAhmetAksoy I'll try that later as well! Thanks :)
Good tip. But if you are doing an animation and your camera is moving then you will have to spend some good amount of time to fix it in post Production. I would prefer to create the glow effect in photoshop first considering the shape of the light and save it with transparent background. Then create another plane aligned with the light and give a offset of 1mm from the wall. Put the transparent texture on the mesh and give a little emissiveness on that. This will save lot of time in post for animation videos..
Thanks

Thanks!
Muito bom Nuno! Obrigado
Obrigado! :)
your works are awesome brother
Thank you so much đ
Lumion 2023 fixed it
Yeap!
What a huge effort for creating a contour-shaped light gloom. If the plan is to fix it with Photoshop there might be a better way by giving the outline a self-illuminition (non-emmisive) and render the final with material-id for masking in psd. Just give it a glow or a gauschn blur with color burn etc. and the job is done in less than 2 minute
Muito bem bolado!! Parabens!!
Thank you! đ
Thanks a lot and keep on going .. your content is very useful đđđ
Thank you! I'll do :)
Thanks for the tip, very useful
You welcome! :)
Sir how did you render that photo vertically ?
this is really helpful. thanks to you...
Glad it was helpful!
nice tips, thank your for sharing it , keep up the good work
Thank you!
Hullo, can one change, choose an emissive light colour in Lumion
Great Tutorial
Glad it was helpful!
Muito boa qualidade e conteudo, parabéns. Abraço
Muito obrigado! :)
I saw what you did there Mr. Silva :D
How you make the rug so realistic
"Easy" right. Looks good tho
what if i want this effect in video render ? please help
Hi !!!
What would you do if it was the same situation but with animation ?
he can't answer bcs he doesn't have idea too with this video
Love. Keep it up.
Thank you! :)
Nice solution! Too bad Lumion wonât allow custom light shapes. Your technique would have worked great when I needed to create a back lit restaurant sign.
Glad it helped!
how manage to take picture in portrait?? i am stack, when i took pictures in lanscape distort my furniture!
Use handheld camera effect and tilt 90 degrees.
Problem is when you have to do a video rendering. Can you suggest a method for that
help please how did you add black bars to the side of renders in lumion camera...
You need to add a Image Overlay effect and then add a PNG image with the aspect ratio you want, with transparent background.
@@NunoSilva3d thanks man highly appricated... one question does this reduce render times?
when i see the video thumbnail i was thniking its fake becoue its imposible to create circuler emissive light but seriusly you are amazing you did it its new thiking about the circuler light you solved the any 3d artist problem.
Thanks Dude.
Glad it was helpful! âșïž
hey. when i put a light on somewhere, the light passed through the wall. how can i fix it?
If it's a Spotlight or Omnilight (from Lumion 11.3), press F8 and you should see the shadows in real-time. If it's a line line or area light, they don't cast shadows, so they will always pass through walls.
what if we put a circle tube behind these shapes and put emissive material on it. if it gives us lighting then it will work in animation also :)
If the tube is not seen in the Camera, it won't render the light as well.
Hey, bro! but we have a little bit problem with this method - no effect for video! For still shots ill better use v-ray corona fstorm etc... lumion only for video. and this method cant help me ) but ty anyway
Yes, for video this won't work. :\ But you can use the other method I was showing in the beginning of the video, adding some light planes behind the geometry, gives a little more work, but will do the trick as well. :)
Quick tip @6:30 .. I's faster to use "select / color range and select the color" than to laso it
merci beaucoup
your work flow is outstanding.....what will you do if its a movie.....??
You can do the first option I've shown for example.
Nice!
Suggestions: Don't You thumbnail photo covered the viewer port Tools
Which tool got hidden in this video?
How about in animation?
I am having issues creating emissive materials in Lumion. I tried making my material standard, or even selecting a default material then sliding the emissive slider, but it turn white with no glow. It doesn't even change colors at all too. If you Nuno, or anybody have similar issues or know the solution would you mind helping me? I am also on a deadline for this project
It is very easy to fix) Lumion simply don't have a material to work with.
After changing material to standart, just add any white image as a texture (white plaster for example) and move slider "emissive" Now it will glow.
Hope it's not to late )
Just a quick question....What if it is animation ? I mean do we have to render both renders as animation ?
If it's animation it's best to use the area lights, or else you will have a hard time tracking everything in post. :)
@@NunoSilva3d Thank you for replying. I just have one more question. Suppose if I have a lamp in my scene. Which has outer layer of glass and bulb inside of it. How will I assign emissive material to the inner bulb. ?
hello brother Nuno
how to make gradient glass in lumion horizental
Can you show an example?

KEEP DOING VIDEOS NUNO
I will! One more coming tomorrow! :) Stay tuned hehe
What if you need to render a video of a model that has hidden lights?
That's way it should be the area lights on the background.
I wish you didn't put your head in the lower left corner of the screen so that we can see the settings...
In my recent videos I place it where there is no UI. :) Fixed it.
I like u man. Really nice content, explained very well. If u have time and interest, maybe you can also share with us from where you get your 3d models. I am a REVIT user, and objects are mostly in Vray. I will defenetly start learning Vray just for that. So I can manipulate and change objects for my pleasing... But untill then .....
I will also get the lumion course from you since u have good reviews and I really like your videos.
Thank you for your kind feedback! I'll add that to my list for future videos, showing where you can get 3d models! :)
That's nice! Let me know if you have any questions. :)
Very good tutorial but this is for still images technic, how to achieve the lighting effect in Interior walkthrough.
That would be with the first technique I'm showing, with area lights.
Sir do we have any solution for video render
Yes, it would have to be done with Area Lights.
This is great! I really like your videos keep going Nuno...But there will still be a problem to create false ceiling lights as the examples you showed from pinterest, hope you could help us on that one day...love from Egypt
What is the issue with the false ceiling lights? The technique is the same, from the images I showed :)
@@NunoSilva3d I mean things like that pin.it/3pb4Iqj ... or any complex shapes...we will make the gypsum board the emmisive you mean then apply the same technique by photoshop?
@@omarelhalfawy7902 yes, you can use the same technique. When modelling the shapes, the edge set has a different material ID, and then take two renders, one with and another without.
@@NunoSilva3d thank you so much you're the best
Can macbook Pro 16 use for lumion
Only if you install Windows on it.
@@NunoSilva3d but macbook Pro 16 with 6 gb graphic card will be a good option.
How it work on Animation ?)
That would have to be with the first technique, with the area lights behind.
And how can this solution works in a animation ?
For animation I suggest using Area Lights then. Takes a bit more time to setup, but it will work.
@@NunoSilva3d but as u said if there is a complicated shape of indirect light line the area light will not be applicable
@@mpharamawyify maybe lumion 11? hehehe
Your video port is hidden the settings.! Thatâs not good.
Hi. The point of the video is to show a simple solution for a problem with Lumion emissive lighting. I'm not showing here how to make any render settings.
I thought I'll finally find the selection when I see this video ,The process is still complicated -_-
Very good, but anymations don't have solution. :(
There is, actually. But I'll have to test better and I'll leave that to another video.
Loda , remove your live face icon from settings panel.
How i can see the settings
thanks - it is a shame that photoshop is the only way to get this effect...
You can achieve with Area Lights as well, it just gives extra work in Lumion, but you don't have that work in Photoshop.
this is one annoying feature that Lumion lacks and needs to integrate. I'll use Vray for that instead.
Yes. lumion cannot make "lighting material" like Vray. So for interior with lighting material effect, I'm prefer using Unreal Engine, the emmisive material emit light, not only glow.
I don't get the joke in the intro???
When the light is not facing the camera, it turns off, similar to what happens with Lumion emissive lighting. :)
Did you notice this issue with Lumion Emissive Material before?

Next time when you make a video, just make it with sense by not putting your self recording on lumion tools in left bottom corner.
