Robert Perry on the Robert Perry Facebook Fan Club posted this comment about Lady K Sailings Hans Christian :)
Robert Perry - I was skeptical when I saw this but the guy does very good job with it. He says a few silly things but most of what he says is accurate. I give him credit for having the balls to even get into the design controversy. Probably the best overview of the HC 36 I have ever seen.
Thought you should know Robert Perry is stalking you😁. Well done Tim👍
Wow!!!! That's amazing!!!!

Thank you for the Mirage story. My dad purchased a Mirage 35 new in 1987. It was intended for someone at the Windsor Yacht Club, but the deal feel through. Dad traded in his Kirby 30 for the Mirage as he decided to stop racing and start cruising. Prior to the Kirby, he owned a C&C 27 Mk 1, the best racing sailboat he owned. Dad knew George Cuthbertson from university days and George flew his plane to Sarnia one day to see the boat. Dad spent many years cruising Lake Huron and the North Channel in the Mirage 35, as well as providing a start boat for local races. My wife and I now own the boat and I have always been impressed with how it handles and how comfortable it is, although my wife does not always appreciate that it likes to be sailed upwind with the rail almost in the water. We have sailed it to Lake Erie (stopping at the Windsor YC) and did a 28 day "round Lake Huron" sail a few years ago - up the US side, crossing into the North Channel, then down the Canadian side back to Sarnia. We plan on heading back up to Georgian Bay this summer, knowing the boat will take care of us.
Wow now that is a great story! Let me know if you pass through Lake St Clair this summer. I'd love to meet you and see this wonderful boat.
The Kirby 25 and the Kirby 30 were both made by Mirage Yachts
I purchased a new C&C Landfall in 1982 to live aboard in Rowayton Ct next door to Bruce Kerby. We talked about design and another designer in Washington, Bob Perry. I later purchased a new Saga 43, Perry design, built by the same labor force that makes C&C"s. Canada has some excellent history building boats.
No one is doing these genesis and boat lineage stories that I know of other than here every bluemoon or so. Do more. These are great.
Thank you so much for featuring the C&C 24 & Mirage! I put blood sweat and tears to bring the one I found back to life and I'm super proud of her heritage. Working with the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston to restore my C&C 24 Niagra has been amazing.
I am also up to my neck in bringing my 76' C&C 24 to tip top shape. What a fun boat to learn on!
Really cool to hear it mentioned, it only has a PHRF around 231 but seems to be one of the faster boats around the marinas here.
I wish I saw this video a couple of weeks ago. I think I have found my boat.
THAT Mirage 39 looks a hell of a lot like my old CHUCK BURNS 40 ULDB 11,000 lbs, 6ft draft, 5,000 lead keel, 13 ft beam
As a long time sailor and Montrealer I thought I would chime in on a few details....Dick and Irene are Quebecer's but they're not French Canadians. Mirage's used Isomat Spars. The factory was in Dorion Quebec. Their last 3 models built were the 275, 29, and 39 all designed by French designer Philip Harle. At the end of the road Mirage had briefly merged with Tanzer also built in Dorion.
It's funny to hear about Dick as French. He is not fluent in French.
Hey all. Couple of corrections from someone who was there. 1st off thank you for the video. As well, Dick Steffen is a German imigrant, Irene is an English speaking Montrealer - neither are French Canadian. Pointe Claire was the sales office, Dorion and Vaudreuil were the manufacturing. The is no relation to the Mirage 5.5 mentioned below. Great stuff, keep it going!
Thanks for re-telling the Mirage Yachts story. I have owned M-26 hull # 153, "Hale Pau Hana" since 2001, here in Vancouver BC. I'll take on a Catalina 27 or the like, any day!

I am a proud owner of the Mirage 35 and loveit.....
I am getting ready to enter the market for a good live aboard. I wish I could afford to get you to point me in the right direction. I'll survive. Just keep the great videos coming, Tim! Keep that keel down.
Saw one comment requesting “Trimarans”, I second that emotion.
In particular would love to get your take on the Searunner series of Trimarans and Jim Brown.
So many unique things about them, there wooden and built by individual people not one company.
Thanks!
Thanks mate, I look forward to your videos every week. Hope you can make it to Australia at some stage and will take you sailing on Sydney Harbour for some great fun racing and cruising.
Fantastic all the way.
An excellent summary of the Mirage yachts story.
I am on my 3rd Mirage, first was an M24 and I won many a regatta with her. Then a M33 out west and now a M25 here on lake Erie. Great boats that have a dedicated following.
Can't go wrong with a Perry Boat ;)
Luv the content👍🏽. Just watched Paul Rodriguez interview with Adam corolla. I'm hispanic, and I'm not a crybaby like other minorities I see on the news. But other Hispanics might not like seeing w.s. pic in the background. The reason why I think this might happen is because my company made metion of it as they were leaving. And I'm going to keep watching. Thanx
I just watched this video with the most important man. Involved in the design of the boat in your video. Your failure to mention him is stunning. . He was the owner of Miraage Boats. Perry was his business partner responsible for sails.. The design of.that Boat belonged to my friend. He started the company. He was a master boat builder from Berlin who came to Canada in 1957. He sold the company and all the mounds and drawings to C an C when the inustry collaped. My friend is now 86 years old. He made that boat fast. His name is Wolfgang Dzimbowski. We were having one of his home brews while watching your video. He was upset that you got it wrong. He bought his partner out two years before he sold the company. Just thought I would set the record straight. Wolfgang was the man behind this boat.
I have a Mirage 5.5 sloop that was given to me. I Googled the manufacturer and apparently they are located here in the US, still in business, but producing power boats now. I don't know if my Mirage 5.5 is related to the Canadian company but it was designed as a "mini-ton" class race boat.
Thanks for talking about Perry and Mirage. I have a mirage 35. I love the boat. It's a great combination of comfort and speed.
yes
Great video! Best yet!
Very well produced. Look forward to watching more.
Great video and story. Boats aside, that green Miura was nice? Fair winds.
Great info
Another great episode!
Super video thanks for the effort on this. We love our Mirage 24, over here on Lake MI
Thanks again for these videos. I'm such a nerd for info on things I want to do.
As you talk about Diane who bought a 26 Mirage. The picture shown of a sailboat named « Penny »is a Mirage 25 a newer design which i love. That boat is quicker than the 26 and the interior is better too. I like thé head alf on port side. So you can sleep in the v birth or anywhere else without having your nose at one foot of the head (toilet) like in older canadian design in 70s. Not talking about the impressive headroom for a 25 footer. Next picture is a mirage 26 tho.
Great video, thanks !
Thanks for another great video! I've seen a few Mirage's around but never knew anything about their story.
The Mirage 24 hull design was also built by Northern Yacht as the Northern 1/4 ton. It had yhe "C&C" cross emblem at the bow (Mirage didn't). The C&C 24 of the same era was a diffetent design. BTW, any mention of the Mirage 26 / 27 should include a heads up on the auxiliary they came with, the infamous "OMC Saildrive".
I'm glad you talked about Mirage boats, I live in Montreal, heard of the brand, saw some in person but never knew the whole story. Thanks,Richard
Greetings from Leamington, Ontario, an hour south of Windsor/Detroit as you know. 45f and rainy today. Nice to see recognition of some of the very capable boats made in Ontario. Mirages were very popular and well constructed sailboats. Enjoyed being on a friends Mirage 27. Sadly they and so many other decent boat manufacturers passed away the victims of poor economy’s and higher costs.
Love the videos, glossed over the C&C 25 a little. Definitely would love to see a video on the Mk1 and Mk2. Love the content
My first boat was a C&C 26 and got the bug and moved up 3 feet to a Mirage 29. Great cruiser race. We did well in the Sarnia MORC racing. Then the bug and changed back to a C&C 33 MK II. I do a lot of solo racing and some days wish I still had the 29!
Great boats wow! Good taste sir! How did you do in the MORC?

I have a Mirage 27. I like it so far. The first summer I sailed her out of Whitby Marina, just to learn the ropes! Last year I Simi retired and a friend of mine tried to sail to Newfoundland, where I am originally from. It was a great sailing experience, learned a lot. We didn't finish the trip, due to bad weather. We made it to John Beetz Bay in Eastern Quebec. The boat is in Sept Illes for the winter season. We are going to continue the voyage in July.
I really like your videos and I have been learning from them, thanks!
Where are you living?
Stay safe!
Gosh, do I remember the Mirage's??? Of course I do! I even LOVED the naming game. All of them used numbers, and were VERY specific (as I recall?). The 10.x something...I loved the aluminum toe rail (a block anywhere needed for whatever you were flying at the time). blacked out racy side windows- it looked fast standing still! I'm sure they were fine as beer can racers, but- I think I'd struggle going too far off shore with one. But, they were fast... Great review & tons of interesting info- Thank you very much for all of the research!
my first boat was the M-24....great solid built and forgiving boat for a newbie.... and yes, did well racing as well....though the PHRF of it was not very friendly.....
Thank you very much for an interesting video again! As an Albin Vega 27 owner I would love to see a video about that awesome sailboat! 😉
We sail a Canadian Sailcraft 33. Love it!!!🍺😎
I own a 1988 Mirage 27.5 for the last 20 yrs but could never find much history in this model.
i love that lambo shout out its just to good
impressive
My second boat was a C&C 29 Mark II, a VERY fast racer cruiser with really good accommodation down below. Very fast when raced which I never did, but the previous owner told me he had to "throw away" trophies because he had too many of them. It was good for two people, fun as all hell, but a bit tender at times due to how light she was. When we started a family, with small kids onboard, it was a handful in higher winds with no sun shading. With a really heavy keel and light everywhere else, it "hobby horsed" in the short chop of the Chesapeake Bay. I have to somehow bridge the chop to make the experience more family friendly. But having sailed "fast" once, I couldn't go "safe and slow". I did a LOT of research, almost purchasing a C&C 32, but it had some issues and I passed. I had always through of Catalina as just run of the mill production boats, but was turned on by one particular model, the Catalina 320 (A Rob Ball design), which I ended up purchasing. It had a huge cockpit which was great for the 4 of us, and great accommodations down below. It also had really decent performance, especially when the 3 blade prop was replaced by a folder. Certainly not the fastest in that size range for sure, but I have embarrassed some much larger boats. Also never felt unsafe when out in some stuff.
Gerry Douglas designed the Cat 320, Rob Ball was a C&C guy.
I always hated crossing over the Ambassador Bridge.
thx! Mirage 25 #22 1983
thanks for the video. Fastest racer/cruisers could very well be the Pogos 44 and 36
... Cheers ...
As I get older, (58) I care more about the transom. I need to be able to get on and off the boat. I don't want to climb a ladder. Lol!
Thanks for the interesting history of Mirage boats. We have a Mirage 39, and would be delighted to send a photo. The photo of the Mirage 39 in your presentation appears to be a C&C 39 named Mirage. Nevertheless, it's just great to learn about the boats. We would really like to connect with other Mirage 39 owners. We have hull #3 out of we think were 12 built. Please reply to this post.
Nice video. Know some of this history. I have a Mirage 27, the Peter Schmitt design. Hull number 5. Undergoing a complete refit at this time. Also like the Perry design, just that this model suits me well. She will launch next year, meanwhile I have my Merit 25 to play with and enjoy! Cheers to all the Mirage owners!
i’m curious about the structural/build quality of the Mirage 27 ? built like a tank?
And cheers to you as well from another 27 mirage
So happy to see this episode as I am purchasing one of the few Mirage 39s made. The survey concluded it is a very well built boat. It is still listed on Oriental Yacht Sales web site. As a commenter below mentioned, the still photo credited as a Mirage 39 is not the right boat. The split backstay and port light arrangement is different. I would love to know how many 39's were built before the line sadly shut down.
I believe 6.
@@allanrheaume5549 Thanks Allan!
Mirage 33 and 35 's are quite popular on Lake Ontario today
Holy cats! I just took a class from Diane last year.
Please Review a Southern Cross Sailboat !!!! I am going to be buying a sailboat soon, and I am thinking of buying this sailboat!!!
Would be interested in hearing your take on bilge keel boats. And thank you for your style - your videos given me an outlet to stay away from to excessive "Yacht world Porn" while saving up for the next one.
Take a peek at the Beneteau First 36.7!

Hope you can do a few episodes on Australian oats, like the Melbourne built Oceanic 42/46 .keep up the good work.
Hey, I'd love to try but having a hard time finding much information on them. I will keep looking.
@@LadyKSailing tha KS mate. no rush. Enjoy the challenge.
Great job as always. We enjoy your channel. I have a Morgan 45-4 CB designed by Bruce Nelson and Bruce Marek. I would like to know more about this blue water racer and blue water cruiser. Thank you.
You can contact Bruce Nelson on FB, he is in San Diego
Phil, Thank you. I do not have a Facebook account is there another way to contact Nelson?
How about reviewing the Islander 36? I’ve had one for 20 years and they are pretty popular in SF. They started as race boats and now are mostly cruisers.
Funny I was supposed to look at a 24'er today but it's a bit slower than a mirage...you know I haven't seen a lot of mirages here at the Mid-Atlantic and hell we got a good number of Cal's here lol
Etap and whether there are any other companies doing that.
We have a Mirage 25 at my club on the Chesapeake. It looks really fast but it is new and I have never seen it in the water. The fastest boat at our club is a J 27.
I have a 1987 Mirage 25. Perry design. Great racer/cruiser. There is a Mirage FB site if you’re looking for more info.
j88 solar ekre gets sail 19.5 knits
Have you done an episode on performance cruisers? If so, which episode is it?
What do you have on the Tanzers. I had 7.5 & loved It! Currently have a '79 C&C 36. 🇨🇦
Hey, check out episode 144 :)
Not a word about the Mirage 29 ? From the French designer Philippe Harlé...
I'm a big fan of performance sailboats, specially the stories behind them. I know Tartans get hate, Sabre's are no longer in the sailboat business and rarely talked about (I really like Sabre 42), but wondering what are the other larger racer/cruisers (performance luxury cruisers) out there? .... Share your 'super fun fast' boat for under $100k / around $300k / over $500k+ -->
GG ood question
Talk about the 41 c and c ...ehy they are the vest canada has produced?
Gib sea would be a good episode to focus on
You skipped over M25, M29, M30, M32, M33. Also photo of M39 was incorrect. There is a Mirage FB group site for further interest.
The answer is J/35
I would love to have a video on Tess out of poland.
Please, I’d like your take on the Flicka 20
How about Nautor's Swan? Pretty good boats apparently...
My wife's book is a good read, published by Austin Macauley of New York, literally a fictional story of sailing and adventure: "Seychelle and the Cannabis Yachties". I hope you will give it a try.
Laguna 30? I guess they only made maybe 20-30 or so before the factory burned down. Basically a Catalina knock off. Perhaps not enough interest but maybe interesting. I own one of the few remaining.
PS: Met you in St. Augustine when you were here.
Hello Tim, do you know anything about Lavranos yachts, Antonio Lavranos? Cheers Greg
Great video as always! Is there a fast, safe 42+ cruiser with no compromises? Meaning she still has a skeg hung rudder, tankage and is not see threw. Oh..for 100k or less
Haha don't ask for too much do you? LOL. I will try to find something that meets those criteria :)
Nordic 44, another Bob Perry design. right around the 100k mark
Please do one on my boat Catalina 34 Tall Rig
What. About the Henry wauquiez?
Can you do a thing on a 36 C&C we have one which got made in Australia
don't know to much about it
Cheers
How about a Corbin 39
I don't think there is anything weird about canadians making sailboats. Think of us finns we have 0km of shoreline that doesn't freeze over during the winters😂 and still we have had plenty of extremely good sailboat manufacturers over the years. Most famously around the world ofcourse Swan but MANY other manufacturers aswell.
Can you do a show on Fisher Motor Sailors ? I have a 25 which I love!!!! Thanks
Ever look at the Sunfast 3200/3300/3600?
Ericson 32-3 would love to see review
1981 Stewart 36.8 Boston boat works I think my boat might be one of a kind don’t know
Any thought on another Perry design. Islanders
Wish I had some sorry. There is so little information out there on Islander :( I can't see filling a whole episode unless it is just on the I36 which I would have to find one to show in real life.
Any thoughts on another Canadian French boat...Tanzer? I see many around and a good friend owns one.
Yes love them! Episode 144 was on Tanzer :)
Could you please do an episode on Doug Peterson
do you have any history with Sabre Yachts?
Thanks for the Mirage review. If possible I’d like to hear about the Mirage 25
Do one on the newport 16
buy it
How about a Westwind 24 Paceship?
Fastest cruising sailboat? Answer: Pogo 44 - by Pogo Structures.
Trimaran.
Nordica :-) Nordica:-) Nordica:-) Nordica:-)
Halman:-) Halman:-) Halman:-) Halman:-)
Then I will share it on the Halman Nordica page.
You'll be famous
Best Regards from the Black Whale 🐋
What about the Moore 24🫡🥳🫵🏼
I own a M30 and I would not say that it's a good racer. The boat is tender and you have the reduce the sail really early
How about a 33 Hallberg Rassy mistral
Hey you mentioned in a previous video that you would be interested in vloging from a subs vessel and I wanted to express my interest in hosting. I am planning a possible trip this summer to the North Channel. I have a CAT 30 that is modified for distance travel on the Great lakes. We do up too 36 hours continuous travels and sail over 1000 nm seasonally. we are not the most experienced but we are humbly willing to learn. I would love to host you for a vlog in the North Channel if I have room and if you are interested. You know the vessel and the accommodations so if you are interested let me know and we can explore the logistics.
Yes i would be very interested in such a trip! And that would make great content. Love to talk about it.
