- Is there any corner of Chicago's theatrical and artistic life untouched by the legendary playwright, producer and screenwriter David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed the Plow, Wag the Dog and The Untouchables)? CHF is thrilled to present an evening exploring Mamet's life in and influence on our city through the lens of his first novel in two decades, 'Chicago'. In this big shouldered thriller set in Al Capone's 1920s, Mamet explores questions of honor, deceit, revenge and devotion, all in his trademark Mamet Speak- that mix of voices that move from the poetic to the profane in rapid, and graphic, succession. Chicago combines spectacular craft with a kinetic wallop as fierce as the February wind gusting off Lake Michigan. Chris Jones joins Mamet in conversion for this not-to-be-missed event.

I love David Mamet's work almost as much as listening to him speak.
49:50: (Paraphrasing) "Art can't be retranslated into rational thought. Because if it could, it's not art".
That's what I love about these speeches by renowned professionals and people who inspire us all; they always, almost without fail, hold these in some sort of giant hall that doubles as an echo chamber and they record this stuff at 1.25 on their volume control knob so you have turn your tiny little speakers on your computer or tablet up as high as it will go and then hold it up to your ear so you can actually decipher 40-60% of what the speaker has to say.
TALMUD..!
51:48 I didn't get the 'Shaperstein' joke, he seems to be referring to Shakespeare. What is the connection? Could anyone please tell me?
He's joking about how Shakespeare was a Jew, And his name was " Bill Shaperstein"
Then he changed it to William (Bill) Shakespeare (Shaperstein)
Holy Name Cathedral is at 735 N. State Street, not Dearbrone. And the holes are not from gunfire. That's a local myth. Just sayin'. (Mamet = South Sider)
