You’re my hero David! One day I’ll write something you’d admire
A fascinating look into Mamet's journey into conservatism and alienation from the liberal creative community. Thank you, Ben!
How can this video have only 18K views? The guy is funny, smart and fascinating.
I love David Mamet’s work. Great interview, thanks.
I'll never forget that epic "Always Be Closing" scene with Baldwin.
Wonderful conversation.
Thank you
17:36 "the Constitution is a compact among thieves." Sublime. Mamet captures the spiritual and philosophical essence of America's foundation in seven words. I have felt this truth in my bones for many years, but it would have taken me a thousand words to express it half as well.
What a transcendental artist.
So you agree with the part where he talks about being free from government?
Nolan: of course.
Texas Jack yes. The constitution was kind of like acknowledging the inherent flawed nature all people have and trying to give some kind of outline to keep freedom available to flawed people.
I really enjoyed this conversation
I love theses Sunday chats! Another stellar one.
WHAT A TREAT TO SEE MAMET AND SHAPIRO THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WAS AMAZING!
Ben Shapiro, RUN FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!
There’s always 🐜 in the picnic. 👍
@Ben Shapiro, I noticed at 26:28 "For the love of (BLANK)" was edited out. What was the reason for making that edit decision? Thanks !
Its interesting how two men of faith can't figure out that only a return to faith can restore America.
Thanks ben
That was excellent
The Unit was such a phenomenal show and no major network has been able to put together one with such quality since. The end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 would legitimately be a great movie.....
Entertaining interview Pray liberalism never takes hold
Unfortunately your comment hasn’t aged well. God help us. 🙏
Ok, now this is epic
Almost three months of specials and only men... Js
If CZcams Google and FB block any conservative content like they are doing to Alex Jones right now. I will have continue to visit the private website
Film Student Here: I'm really surprised that David Mamet is so down on the current film industry. He believes that current movies are only run as a business and that the art has been drained out of films for decades. The problem with this line of the thinking is that in an era with so much content in order to find quality you have to look in the right places. The time in which he is referring to (1930s to 1970s as the era of movies that were basically good), during that time the good movies were just THE movies. You didn't have to find them, you just go to the theater and there WILL be something for you. Now we are in an era with so many different kinds of movies for so many different kinds of people and the good films are not necessarily going to be advertised as heavily, or even in your local theater, you might have to search for them, go to film festivals, look them up on movie databases and stream them on demand.. The quality of movies have never changed over time, it is only the way in which we consume them that they have changed. So I believe David Mamet's opinions on the state of film is simply due to his being used to an earlier time in which the consumption of film was simpler and his enjoyment of them was more guaranteed. I watch a movie everyday (most of the time they are good) and most of the time its never a movie that I see trailers and commercials for in the theaters and on TV. Good movies are not dead, they have only hidden themselves from the mass population that WANTS to see all the crappy franchise films that David is describing.
GenderRollsN' honeybutter I’m sorry but I’m in no way trying to discount anyone’s opinions on this topic just because of my education. I love David Mamet and Ben Shapiro but I just wrote about something that I’m passionate about because I find that a lot of conservatives have different views on film than I do and so I’m just offering what I know. The fact that it is long winded just means that I have a lot to say and if you don’t want to read it that’s fine but judging how this is in the comments section of a nearly hour long intellectual conversation I would assume that you would be open to a long formed expression of opinion. Why is it that you feel the need to comment on what I wrote when you found it to be not worth the time required to read it in the first place?
I would hope that what I’m saying doesn’t sound like a pretentious way to discount the interesting conversation between Ben and David, I just thought I had another perspective to add, I’m not forcing you to read it. So I’m not exactly sure why it must be met with such hostility.
GenderRollsN' honeybutter okay that was funny.
GenderRollsN' honeybutter I do put that energy into my work. I just enjoy writing out these opinions I don’t need anyone to read them. It just helps me articulate my thoughts.
rebecca sargissian um.. did u mean to reply to my comment?
Can't help but notice that right after Facebook and Google announce changes to the algorithms your views are down under 10k. Shadowban warning. Your new videos aren't hitting my push notifications either.
have on camille paglia ben! she’s great to talk to
She is absolutely brilliant, but she needs to stop, breath, maybe have a drink or 70 and take some vallium.
"Ok... ok... ok....ok..... there, there, there, ok... ok....ok... the 60s.... ok, ok, ok..... my, my, my.... ok, ok, ok... yes, ok... what?, ok... ok... ok...hoi polloi!"
Jake Holt Alright ok ok alright 😂 i agree but these things can be dialed in through prepping and doing less off the hand speaking. honestly i don’t know if it’s worth losing authenticity, though
Great to read, awful to listen to
Amen. We are exposed to far more entertainment than politics or religion, in most cases. If the progressives in Hollywood were truly interested in minimizing gun violence and fostering public dialogue they would learn to write better. However, they are just shadow socialists, which means they are capitalists, giving what the mob clammors for, all-the-while putting the bottom line first. Right now, the bottom line can be radically affected by social media bullying. So here we are. Sorry Aziz Ansari.
I too am still waiting to hear a policy prescription for the country from the left. So far, the only offer they have in the public consciousness is a mounting hatred of Trump.
What's the song name in the beginning?
47:44 Hollywood Studios make less than 100 movies per year. . . in the Great Depression they made 700.
“The disease has declared itself” 11:11
Liberslism
Check out credits for this one hour interview, FOUR PRODUCERS :)
That's why Ben was laughing so hard to that joke/fact, and it made it to the intro clip.
👍🏼👍🏼‼️
Little know fact: his ex wife played professor Walsh in the 4th season of Buffy the vampire slayer
51:12 We've definitely moved into the "Mobile Age" -- most viewers, especially younger viewers, now watch movies / TV / entertainment / education on MOBILE devices: cell phones, tablets, laptops. . .
Engaging interview!
I just come here to watch the intro
I love this guy,he reminds me of my moms moms new husband, after my original grandfather passed away she remarried a man named horse who was a real vet.Horse could make anything and his passion was building firearms and bullets,he was a good person.I find it hard to relate to a lot of stuff, but not this guy.Work until we die is not a bad idea.
Ben! You should have joel salatin of polyface farms on!
51:04 TV ? Now, 67 percent of cable and satellite TV subscribers are "cutting the cord."
Ask him about "Resurrect Dead Toynbee Idea Kubrick 2001"
I call BS (Ben Shapiro). Just give her the 10K because it's the right thing to do.
Top 5 plays?
*POPCORN*
Ojala haya algún heroe sin capa q lo subtitule en español sus videos
$40b not $4b. Forgivable minor error
Hey
Wat
How does he reconcile his views against violence and sex in writing with a show like Game of Thrones? That's not to say Game of Thrones is perfect but it certainly has a good plot while depicting gratuitous sex and violence.
yoskie
How come all of the "famous" actors the Daily Wire apparently knows aren't actually known at all?
Hey ben do you play fortnite
SELL OUT
Why do you seem so rushed Ben?
Mike Williams Ben has always talked fast. Maybe Mr. Mamet was constrained for time and Ben wanted to talk with him as much as possible?
It just seemed like he was moving from point to point without exploring the ideas. I watch every Sunday special and it just seemed like he kept moving without getting to deep into anything the guest was saying
Mike Williams yea, true. Almost seemed like a Q&A session.
I think you're correct in that it wasn't very exploratory. HOWEVER, as a Q/A, it was very very good, no?
I def enjoyed it
Mr. Shapiro, I REALLY wish you would stop making rational arguments, based in fact and researched to relay the best argument that you can. I am going to implore you to stop making sense! After years of bad journalism, which I became used to, your brand of mixing truth, facts, and what should be common knowledge is freaking me out! I want to go back to the biased, opinionated blitherings that can be normally be found on main stream media. I just can't seem to bring myself to do it though.
Films are better now than they ever were
Wes 76 tell me one film better than one from the last 5 years
Wes 76 who directed that movie I've not heard of it
Fist full of dollars, bridge over the river kwai, Star wars 4,5,6, and tombstone. that being said new movies are much more visually appealing and their are very good movies made recently, i.e. A quiet place. but i can see that argument that older movies spent more time on story then visuals back in the day
Movies are all woke and flim school lol what a joke
I disagree with this guy on so many levels, I think he is probably the worse guest he's had on so far. In the same breathe as saying we shouldn't show so much violence and sex in movies he says that movies are not capable of making you better or worse. If a movie is incapable of making you better or worse then why would it matter if movie's show excessive sex or violence...
He then goes to say the most ignorant thing I have ever heard "The only people who aren't people too are the Jews, do you notice that?" ahhh excuse me, I haven't noticed that. When was the last movie you saw where that's what you came away from the movie.
This guys is just spouting stream of consciousness and he's not particularly smart...He reminds me of Gene Simmons, full of himself and half baked.
David Mamet, I respect your writing but David David your politics are at odds with your work and line of work... ok I get it, American liberals suck but really? American conservatives are worse!
Andrea, it IS ok to grow up. Still a Lib? Happy with Joe? And Schiff and Nancy? Fake Russia hoax?
