I’ve found that if you take a small drill bit, and drill through the metal pins on the back, you will not need to worry about scarring/melting the plastic. It is ultimately unnoticeable. I then replaced the now drilled pins with tiny washers. Looks just as good, while maintaining the integrity of the pack.

I've just found your video as I'm trying to find non-destructive/reversible methods of modding my pack. The one thing I've been afraid of all this time. I've got hold of a 2.25" cable from TGBCablery in America, arrived today so it's the same size as the Haslab pack ribbon, so squeezing it in won't be such a problem.
Just to let you know: 1. Thank you for this video as I have had no idea on how to remove the cable clamp, now I do!!
And 2, I didn't know/completely forgot about the weathering side of it!! So I'm off to the local Model merchant at the weekend to pick a bottle up.
    Thank you again good sir!

You are very welcome, I wanted to be as non destructive as possible. Sadly when I did this I didn’t have much choice with the clip but now you can buy new wider clips, or 3D printed ones that fit a full ribbon cable. So might be better than trying to squeeze it in the original one.

Great job with that! Was that a full sized ribbon cable and where did you get it please? Thanks for sharing!!!

Thank you so much, yes it was full size, was definitely a squeeze but made it work. I was fortunate to get it from someone in the community but I believe they got it from C&A Prop Design on Facebook. They do pre orders every so often.

This was a cool video but I really wish you would have showed yourself prying a part that ribbon clamp to see the process of how hard it was to get off

The OG GB1 ribbon cable is 3" wide and the haslab/afterlife ribbon cable is 2.25", what did you do to make it fit? How did you cut it?

    • @tord6725
      @tord6725 Před rokem +1

There are 3 sections on the cable and 2 clear sections with no wires. All I can think is that he’d cut a bit from the empty sections to pintch the wired parts closer so it’d fit

I did the same when installing a full size gb1 cable, I even removed some material on the inner clamp edges to open up the space for the ribbon cable.
Fyi thanks, your video on this helped me 100%

I was liking it for the most part. You lost me when you went over putting the cable in and how you did it. You showed everything else but not that? As a someone who is new to modding I would've really benefited from that. I'm not going to attempt it. Some people learn better by observation.

Go to my last video about the sound mod, on that video it shows you how to remove the back. Then you will see how to take the ribbon cable out, super straight forward, I showed you the hardest part, that was the important bit if this mod as you could ruin your pack doing that wrong, this fitting inside is subjective and based on the size of cable you have.
Once you get into the pack by unscrewing the motherboard, you’ll see the OG ribbon is held on by 3 screws. Undo them and remove and you just need to twist the new ribbon cable and tape the end then push it through the hole, it may be so tight in the hole that you may not need to secure it with anything by tape on the inside of the pack.

I will film the inside of the pack next time I open it up.

@@TyKix Yeah I was referring to the clamp and you using epoxy and stuff and what you did with it. Didn't understand any of it. I'm just probably going to give up with wanting to add my GB1 cable from Fincher since I can't understand how to add it. Can't do it

@@stevenvaughan1572 I am sorry I didn’t capture me fitting it all together, in truth, I used mainly epoxy as it’s a lot more solid and mainly on the male side, I managed to get the holes big enough in the ribbon cable to go over the female sides pins (if they don’t sit around the whole of each female pin, the male side won’t fit snugly back together)
It was fiddly hence forgetting to film and is why I used contact adhesive on the female side to stick the ribbon once aligned.
I clipped the male side on and it fit all together (remembering I cut of the ends off the female side with a dremmel) so it all fit well and I dabbed epoxy on the metal pins I removed at the beginning and put them back in. It all dried fairly fast and then I dabbed some epoxy on each side of where ribbon meets the clip to stop it coming out.
