  • Hello guys, today we're watching the Coen brothers' Fargo, a movie about a fake kidnapping, one million dollars, a fraud with money problems, two unprofessional professionals, several murders and a pregnant policewoman who tries to make sense of it all.

    One of the greatest movies ever made. And it is a parable of the human condition combined with fantastic acting. McDormand and William H, Macy both won Oscars for their roles.

    The scene in the "all you can eat" bar with Marge's old schoolmate Mike Yanagita is one of the funniest parts! He has a total hidden agenda all along, and this awkward encounter influences Marge to stop taking people at face-value, most importantly William H. Macey's character. That's brilliant writing.

      Absolutely! People from that culture aren't used to people lying to their faces, especially making up such awful stories about cancer and the death of a loved one.

    Love that you laughed through a bunch of it and completely understood the dark humor! This is one of my absolute favorites! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

    I enjoyed your review very much! "Fargo" is a classic and multiple Oscar winning movie. Frances McDormand deserved and
    did win the Best Actress Oscar. It also won Best Picture among other awards. Amazing all-around acting by all in the film, and incredible direction by the Cohen Brothers.

    If you want to see one of the Coen bros' more serious/dark movies, you should check out Blood Simple. It was their first movie. Very film noir.

    It goes to show you just how much you wouldn't expect such horrible crimes to happen in a remote little town in Minnesota. You might think that a pregnant police officer would be pulled from active duty until after the birth, because of the inherent danger risk that goes along with active duty. But that didn't happen with Marge, precisely because that kind of danger is so unexpected there.

    Before Anton Chigurh, Peter Stormare’s character in this movie was the Coen Brothers’ greatest villain.
    Also, it is worth mentioning that this was filmed on location, in and around the city of Minneapolis, which is where the Coen Brothers grew up.
    “Fargo” is a small town nearby where Jerry and the criminals first met in a bar.

    Thanks, Angus, for a very entertaining review. The real star of the movie is the location: northern North Dakota/Minnesota. Poking gentle (or not so gentle) fun at a quirky corner of the country.

    Your Coen brothers choices have all been pretty grim ones. If you wanna see something crazy, check out "Raising Arizona." You won't believe it's by the same two guys.

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety

      Wouldn't say that "Burn After Reading" is a grim movie tho.
      Sure, people die, but IMO the whole movie and the characters are just way too goofy to be taken seriously. ^^
      Raising Arizona is on my list, but I doubt that the shift in tone will be bigger than it was between "Big Lebowski" and "No Country For Old Men". The Coen brothers have a very wide range with their stuff. :D

    This is a great movie and the series is pretty great too, if you're interested. Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman, they're both excellent in it.
    So, I just googled Peter Stormare to make sure I knew who you meant and I just found out that his real last name is Storm. Wow, if my real last name was Storm, I would NEVER change it. Not for a million dollars. Well, maybe for a million dollars but even then, I'd only change it to something even cooler, like Savage or Slaughter.

    Talking about bizarre, have you watched Raising Arizona? It is the Coen Brothers second film, a comedy. John Goodman is great and Frances McDormand has a small role. A Hilarious and somehow heartfelt story. I am really enjoying your movie reactions. Thank you.

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety

      Nope, I've only seen No Country For Old Men, Big Lebowski, Burn After Reading, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and now Fargo from the Coen Brothers. But I'm definitely planning on watching more of their movies, apart from Buster Scruggs I really enjoyed their works up until now.
      And once again, thank you, I'm glad you like my reactions, really appreciate it. :)

    What a great movie. Everyone should watch Fargo (1996) at least once.
    As an aside: Are you going to react to the Witcher movie and season two on Netflix?
    Fun Fact: William H. Macy stated in an interview that, despite evidence to the contrary, he did hardly any ad-libbing at all. Most of his character's stuttering mannerisms were written in the script exactly the way he does them in the film.

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety +1

      I thought so, this stuttering really makes his character. ^^
      About the Witcher: I already watched the first episode, my reaction will be up tomorrow. :)
      Didn't have time to watch the movie tho, I wanted to do it without a reaction now, so I might get the references in this season if there are any.

    • @BigGator5
      @BigGator5 Před 2 lety +1

      AngusSees ...It's a prequel to the series, but I don't see how it will have any direct impact on the series. No rush on the movie.

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety +1

      @@BigGator5 I know, but I thought there might be some references in this season. Nothing super important, just some minor stuff. 🤔

      AngusSees ...I just binged episode 3 to 8 of season two of The Witcher. I didn't mean to do it. So good. The ending of episode 8 is it. I'm crying. So, so good.
