My suspicion is that tactical droids work the same basic way that chess computers work: They have records of a whole bunch of real and simulated/scrimmaged battles, analyze those for common threads and patterns and then use that to determine what is likely to happen, hence their constant mentioning of "odds." This leaves them with an obvious weakness when facing highly unconventional or innovative opponents, since they still suffer the lack of creativity most droids have. The T-series also doesn't seem like it is very good at understanding human/alien psychology, a weakness that the Supertactical Droid seems to have compensated for.
Pretty much this. The T-series tactical droids were too clingy to probability odds and as a result the easiest way to beat them was simply to implement a nonsensical strategy regardless of how ridiculous it is since T-series tactical droids couldn't adapt to changing battlefield conditions in any way. The Super Tactical Droids were designed to factor in unpredictable odds as variables rather than simply discard them, which made a crazy huge difference.
This is exactly the reason computers are so strong at pre-defined games (chess, go, checkers, etc) but are crazy bad at doing anything that has irregularities in it. Look at the reCaptcha boy test- it’s literally asking a computer to identify pictures. How tf do you do that?
Mentlegen well see the thing about RTS games is that the AI usually has a limited set of behaviours it can follow, so it's much easier for players to figure out what the AIs plan is and adapt to that (or just screw around with the AI) than it is for the AI to know what you're doing even if you're just using tried and true tactics.
They sure as shit got the sequel right, at least

It's also important to note that many of their defeats were actually the result of not their incompetence but the superior competence of their enemies. It can be very easy to forget that watching a movie or TV show in this case is basically like going on a ride along with the best of the best in any given group. This will make everyone around them look highly incompetent by comparison. It's also very difficult to calculate the force variable. One thing I'd like to see is a series of videos based on a type of droid you would design and/or the way you would implement a given technology. I think installing purpose built droid brains directly into every turret(turbolaser, laser, point defense, etc. And programmed exclusively for that function, would have been far more effective than having B-1 battledroids operate gunner stations the way a person would. They could even be linked to a specialized fire control station for greater efficiency.
That sounds expensive as fuck even for the CIS.
Most of the ships and vehicles CIS used were meant for organic pilots.

Luke The Legend not just that, but we do know in RoTS that the Republic would win the conflict against the CIS.
You can’t win the war if all we saw is the Republic having their asses kicked.
@@alexanderchristopher6237 the republic only won due to palpatines interference as he planned to turn the republic into the empire. If we gave both factions their armies etc but removed palpatine completely the confederacy would win in the end. Massively and insanely outnumber the republic, superior navy, most of its military leaders were people with actual shit tons of combat experience as opposed to the jedi being peace keepers and hadnt involved themselves in a major war since the mando wars depending on which canon you go by so they shouldnt be compotent at all. The droids in the films were much better where they were a silent swarm kind of thing but they are just comic relief in tcw.

Cant say that about that one droid that assassinated its commander to come out with a victory. It did what it thought was right to succeed, though in a much darker way.
@@wruenvadam A fair point, but I would venture to say that droids like that are quite uncommon.
@@raymondkunkel642 Well there's no doubt about that, but still I would surmise to say that while it may far from common for the T-series droids, I think such behavior would be a bit more common for the Super Tactical Droids, based on what we have seen from the very few that appeared in the show. They seem to have a somewhat greater capacity for doing things a bit outside of what the average droid can do. Honestly if i were to put their capability of strategy on a scale, it would sit on the same scale as chess players and SuTac droids would probably rate 2000+, up there with some of the masters and certainly a worthy opponent of any strategist and tactician worth their mettle, whereas a standard T-series Tactical Droid would maybe rate down in the 1400-1500 range on average, which is the win some and lose others range. still above absolute average but not amazing. and the ones below them i would probably give 1200. Thats the way I see it at least. I think we should get a video on the various Super Tactical Droids in Star Wars. I feel it might be pretty interesting.

When a programmer that doesn't understand a thing about military tactics has to program a tactical droid that will lead thousands of other stupid droid that were programmed by programmers whose only experience with guns and battlefield were with CoD
A programmer doesn't have to know much about strategy or military tactics to make a machine capable of beating military generals. The machine that beat the world's best chess player wasn't made by a chess player, it was made by IMB programmers who didn't even play chess. The program was designed to adapt and learn every time it failed to beat an opponent. It may have completely sucked at the beginning but eventually it beat the world champion chess player because of its self learning ability.
@@cirrusfox8052 it has info on whats happens though it cant learn if it cant actually learn
@@popinmo that depends what you count as learning. A human doing something and then not doing it again you would count as learning. So the Ai being able to remember what worked and didn't would be technically saying it is learning
Cirrus Fox your argument have two flaws
1- even if the programmers weren’t chess players, they knew the rules
2- the general droid shouldn’t learn by his mistakes because if he loses he get destroyed
@@TheJoker-qo4fg I mean knowing the rules and being able to play are different . And the droids would still be able to learn because it can have back up data stores. And also the droids mostly lose because they follow a break "logic" meaning ok this position is heavily dug in let's not attack but humans ok charge fuck it
9:30 “they weren’t good at predicting the unpredictable” wow, it’s almost like it’s unpredictable or something
Before I even watch...
My theory was that, very much like many of the Jedi and Kaminoans, the Seperatists just underestimated and undervalued the individuality and uniqueness of the clones. They also massively underestimated Jedi like Kit Fisto, Mace Windu and especially General Skywalker!
They used calculations based on the clones behaving exactly like robots, following orders perfectly and not deviating from set tactics and those orders were calculated from poor information on the Jedi.
Most people knew very little about Jedis as individuals and probably used a single algorithm or calculation for most if not all of them... I'm betting any outliers like Mace and his darker approach, Anakin and his crazy risky tactics and very individualistic clones, or Obi Wan who knew he wasn't a General and allowed his Clones and Cody make massive decisions...
They just didn't have enough information to work with. They were working with bad information and calculating victory based on assumptions that all Jedi were very similar if not the same, and that all clones were the same.
Also, I assume the Droids assumed the Clones and Jedi would be "Logical" more often than they were. Jedi were driven by emotion much more than they'd like to admit, but it made them hard to calculate. They wouldn't retreat when it would be logical, they would go fight an entire army to rescue 3 clones, they would raze half the galaxy to track down a lost droid... shit that makes absolutely no logical sense.
That is my theory.
GG Tac Droids. You came close, but you just couldn’t hit the mark.
That's very likely the reason
This is the best theory. Maybe they even reused the algorithm that the Tactical Droids were using to command their armies to predict what the Republic would do? How long did the people who programmed Tactical Droids have between them knowing they would be at war with the Republic and when there actually was war? If they only had a few months, I can believe they would reuse that algorithm just because it takes less time.
That works from an overarching perspective, but we all know the main reason is plot armour. In general the droids were since the film episode 1 designed to be childish buffoons in general for thematic reasons and the clone wars series stayed true to this type.
When you add on the need for the heroes to not die and in turn to win at the end of the day the result is droids just being terrible. One of the best examples of this is commando droids, the only droids that typically do seem competent... until the heroes need to win at which point they become mind numbingly incompetent (with maybe one notable exception). Even magna guards mostly seemed pretty incapable save for Dooku's yellow boys.
Honestly it's the one big failing in the series (with the only real exceptions being force users) that the CIS usually seem like buffoons easily overcome, instead of a dangerous foe that is overcome through the heros daring and ingenuity.

Tactical droids were a good decision. The real failure of the CiS wasn't strategic but tactical. (The name there causes a bit of a oddity) Tactical droids were excellent commanders and command support with great strategic grasp, but they weren't designed as field officers, something which the CiS lacked and apparently refused to address.
What's more the best way the CiS could have kept their own people more invested in the war further lowering costs and keeping public support in the face of any economic difficulties, would have been to train and field organic field officers for the army. Specifically field officers who are drilled to recognize the droids as battlefield assets, not at sentient beings. Train these men and woman that droids were just extensions of their own warfighting ability, rather than squadmates and that optimal use of the droids as weapons to achieve their field goals was what was needed.
Using a droid as a shield while advancing, sacrificing part of the squad for an advantage to eliminate a clone squad ect. And generally moving the droids further away from the incredibly simplistic phalanx formations and more into extensions of the CiS warfighters.

T-series were overconfident about their victory, just like T-series, but like the republic, pewdiepie will always remain on top
So whos the Empire
Funstun 123123 5 minutecrafts is
@@Funstun-yk7oo the empire is not even in this time era/period
SO TRUE!! I subscribe to Pewdipie
Im the empire I will end the war when their forces are spread out. The T series factories will be shutdown. I will then order 66 pies from ebay. The pewdiepie order will be hunted. And a new order will be placed as *THE 5 MINUTE CRAFTS EMPIRE*
(This would be crazy if it actually happened)
*FOR THE REPUBLIC!!! (SUB TO PEWDIEPIE!!!)*
I just love the Tactical Droid's design. Their voices are awesome too
“Alexa, begin order 66. I’m bored...”
