  • Sometimes you only have a rasterized QR code, but need it vector based. There are ways to do that in Illustrator and also in InDesign. We're taking a look at the obvious and at the best method.

    "First of all, we are going to look at how not to do it" Thank you! This is the exact reason I couldn't figure it out on my own.

    Wow the technique you showed in illustrator is genius. I have tried using image trace before to vectorize a QR code and like you showed, it doesn’t work out. But using create object mosaic is does it perfect. 👍

    I succesfully made the barcode. But I can't color it. It just stays in black and white no matter what color I tried to change. Do you perhaps know how to fix the issue? Thanks a lot!

      In which app are you working? If it is InDesign then you need to colorize the QR code inside the QR code settings dialog (in the color tab). If you copied the code over to Illustrator then it should automatically break up into pieces that you can then color.

    I tried the first technique but i couldn't color it, do you know why?

      What happened instead of the color being applied?

      @Vektorgarten
      It's only black and white, I tried to Recolor it, but it didn't work, I then tried the advanced settings and luckily I was able to fix it, but I don't even know what I did honestly 😅

      @@luhan8628 you used Recolor artwork, then probably the recolor settings stopped you from recoloring black. That is turned off by default.
