The way you run your Startup challenged my belief on how Startups are meant to be run and I like that. If you wouldn't mind, I would love to know more about user acquisition, how you got your first 1000 users and how you come up with ideas to post on your company's CZcams page, I absolutely love that idea. Keep Up the Great work. You Inspire a lot of us out here.

I’m going to create a video soon on some ways to get your first customers / users.
Regarding ideas on what to post on your startup’s CZcams page - it simply comes down to creating content to educate potential and current “users” about features and functionalities in your app/software and how to use them.

Great to see you back in video creation bro. And these vlogs are super🔥! I didnt know how much i was gonna like them until i saw the first.
My first question is what made you decide to take the vlog route this time? Many say vlogging is dying. But it's doing incredibly well for you. What was the aha moment?
    2. You've built past digital products like YADM, and many more helping people relocate. What's up with them? Are they still up or you're full on FootyAmigo alone?

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +1

      Hey Amigo.
Thanks for the comment and yes I am back on youtube (slowly, lol)
If I am being honest - the reason I decided to vlog is for my own personal accountability and to look back at how things were (later in the future) + because I am running a tech startup, I am constantly on my toes working on 1000001 things at the same time, delaing with bugs, databases, servers, customers, payroll, expenses and a lot of other things, so I need something I can do that is somewhat "creative" and these vlogs I believe does that for me, because I get to shoot videos and edit them and these have nothing to do with my startup, so it's an outlet for me.
You might know this (or not) but I used to do music. (I say "used" to because since 2021 when I started working on Footy Amigo, I let everything else go because I am more pasionate about this than anything else.
About vlogs dying, I think what I have noticed is that people want to SEE rather than HEAR. (what that means is that most vlogs is someone infront of the camera just talking, talking and talking, except you find this personal personally interesting and want to hear EVERY single word that comes out of their mouth, chances are that such vlogs will become boring. In the other hand - people want to see, they want you to show them stuffs rather than tell them about what you will show them, lol)
So, I guess that might be the sweet spot.
Regarding your other question - at my core, I am an entrepreneur and this means If I see demands that requires supply in which I know I can do with my eyes closed, I will supply those demands because they can bring some side income and also add value to people (so it's a win-win)
The beauty of a digital product (unlike startups) is that once it's created, it's created! You don't have to constantly work on it daily, fix bugs, hire employees, add new features etc, but FA has been my number priority since 2021 and will continue to be so because it's the thing that gets me up from bed everyday with excitement.
Hope I was able to touch on your questions.
      Stay well Amigo

    Laptop:
Could you share the brand of that laptop stand? I also think that your laptop might overheat on a pillow because it closes radiator holes. I have the almost same model of HP, cheaper maybe. :D
    Startup:
    1. Do you have a tech partner? What are his duties?

    3. Should startupper believe in that or it is just about money? Or solving an amigos pain point should be a base belief of a startupper?
    4. About a solution's existence - I suppose there are two cornerstones of your startup: data gathering and data analysis. If it is appropriate I would appreciate it if you can say something about this.
    5. Is it inevitable to ruin N-first startups?

Hey Amigo, thanks for watching and I am glad you like my videos :)
The exact laptopn stand i use is from Amazon, here amzn.to/3JR0SUX
You are right, this pc does overheat if you put it on a pillow etc, the stand is perfect for it because the air can flow out easily.
      1. Do you have a tech partner? What are his duties?
      ANSWER:
No, I don't have a partner. I am a solo founder who has a team.
      2. How did you find out the pain points? Amigo research?)
      ANSWER:
Firstly, I have personal experience betting on football and I know what the pain points are to me and the people around me, so I used this as a reference point. Then I did more research omline to see what other people who trade and bet on football are saying. (I think it's always best to create something you have personal experience with because then it will be easier to navigate)
      3. Should startupper believe in that or it is just about money? Or solving an amigos pain point should be a base belief of a startupper?
      ANSWER:
Solving the pain point is kinda related to making money. I know it sounds cheesy but it's true that "the more people you help to solve their problem, the more money you can make".... because people will PAY YOU if you SOLVE their problems...especially, if its a pain point that either helps them make money, not loose money, save time, save energy and makes them smarter.
That being said, it is also important to ensure to create something that can make you money in the longrun! This is where market research comes in, I only work on things that has a huge audience and can make revenue in the long run. (I am talking 100s of millions of dollars)
      4. About a solution's existence - I suppose there are two cornerstones of your startup: data gathering and data analysis. If it is appropriate I would appreciate it if you can say something about this.
      ANSWER:
So, except you are trying to create the cure for cancer, there's a 99% chance that what you want to build already exists in some way. Maybe you are just making it better, more user-friendly or more cost-effective.
      5. Is it inevitable to ruin N-first startups?
I did not get your last question correctly, but I will assume you meant is it invetiable to ruin your first startups? If yes - then the answer is YES. This isn't my first startup, I have created multiple businesss and startups in my 10 years so far of being an entrepreneur, but you always learn on the road and know what not to do on your next time.
      Cheers Amigo

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +9

      Hey Shelby,
      Thanks for the comment.
"When did you know that you could hire on additional team members? "
ANSWER: So, because I don't write code - I knew from the start that I would need to hire team members.
I can handle marketing, branding, SEO etc but I am not a programmer, so my start team included:
      UI/UX designer & FullStack Developer.
To make life easier for the fullstack dev, I hired a full time Front-End Dev.
And from time to time, whenever we need to implement an architecture that my current team isn't skilled on, I hire a developer with that exact skillset on a contract basis. He/she comes on board, works on the architecture and learns how it works and are able to handle it from there.
I use this same logic for other apsects (departments) of my startup.
So, I always hire when: (1) There's a need for that exact skillset not present in the current team (2) Additional hand would make us work faster and ease the pressure/work load on another team member.
"How did you find your team members? "
      ANSWER:
I will create a video on this soon but the short version of it is that I hire freelancers and then turn them into full time employers.
Let me explain - I use freelancer sites (upwork, fiverr, freelancer.com etc) to find talents that are skilled in specific skillsets I need and then depending on how long the need is - I either hire them full-time to the team where they ONLY work for my startup or if I only need that skillset for a short period of time, I hire them on contract basis.
"Did you/ are you reaching out for funding?"
      ANSWER:
No, I am not looking for or reaching for funding at the moment.
I have actually turned down funding.
I am from the "boostrapping" school of thought. So, I believe in funding my needs with my own money.
      "Are you a solo founder?"
      ANSWER:
      Yes, I am a solo-founder with a team.
Hope I was able to answer your questions.
      Cheers Amigo!

      Hey Amigo.
Thanks for the comment and kind words.
So, I won’t be able to give out specifics of our tech-stack for obvious reasons but in terms of data points, data for football (or any sport) can be gotten from data API providers. What we then do - is make sense of the data, do some analysis on it to make it human-friendly and make it easily understandable to the average person.
      Thanks Amigo 🙏

    Question:
How do you structure/plan and prioritize your tasks ahead for the day. Do you have a specific "week" plan, or simply plan it out day by day. Thanks!!

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +2

Thanks Augustas for watching and the comment.
So, honestly - I do not have rigid plans. I know the advise is always to have plans ahead for the week or for the day etc, but i work based on priority of things in my head. (When I say in my head, I mean because I know every part of my startup, where we are, what issues we are facing etc, I already know in my head what will be tackled today or this week)
I should start having more rigid plans but it’s hard to have rigid plans when you are a solo founder and have 100001 things in your head and working on a startup, things are unpredictable especially in the early days. (Maybe this is just an excuse who knows)
In a nutshell, I plan it our day by day but no day goes by where I don’t spend hours in the day working on user acquisition as this is the life-blood of any business (or startup)
      Cheers

Hello Nejo, thank you for the inspiration. I wanted to ask what do you think about the best form of time management, having a schedule, working in time blocks whithout breaks etc. what works the best for you, how do you schedule?

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +1

Hey Amigo! Thanks for watching and for the comment.
What works for me is time blocks. For example, I start working at 9am (10am sometimes depending on where I’m working), then I work without any distractions till 1pm.
      Then take a break from 1pm - 2pm.
Start second half of the day from 2pm to 5pm and that’s my major work done for the day.

    I have a few questions:
Where do you get your data/statistics from so that Amigo can make informed decisions/bets?
How is this data/statistics kept up to date?
Do you feel frustrated or disadvantaged by being a non-technical founder/CEO?
What is Tech Stack for the Footy Amigo?

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +1

      Hey Mohamed,
Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment.
So, I wont be able to answer your questions regarding exact information about the ins-and-outs of my startup or our exact techstack for obvious reasons.
That being said, Data can be gotten from various data providers (a quick google will show you different sources)
The most important thing isn’t the data provider, it’s the work we do in-house to make sense of the data and the analysis we do on it so the amigos can use it in human-readable and understandable form and the other things we do behind the scenes on a daily basis.
Regarding feeling frustrated about not being a technical founder, honestly I sometimes feel it would be really good if I could code but then I think about the skillsets I have which 99% of programmers don’t have and frankly will never have, which is turning “code” into a “product” and making it “sticky” for the target audience. (Things like branding, copywriting, user acquisition, marketing, user journey design, customer centricity, stickiness, sales and the list goes on)
So, instead of spending time trying to learn code, I lean in more into my strengths and skillset and instead hire people skilled in the skillsets needed.
I say I’m not a technical founder but what I really mean is that I don’t write backend code, but that doesn’t mean I can’t and don’t create websites. For example, the FootyAmigo.com website was created by me. (everything and every page) and the copy for the website, explainer videos, videos etc were all created by me. The only thing I don’t do is write code for the backend of the site (dashboard).
      Cheers Amigo

Hey Jude, thanks for watching and for the questions.
I use a 360 camera, the exact one is in my description.
The camera can only go as far as you use it. So for example, to create overhead shots - I have to set up in a certain way and use a certain accessory for it.
To shoot POV or other angles, the same applies - I have to use separate accessories to achieve each shot.
I will create a video showing the BTS of how I shoot and capture each angle, this would be much better and easier to understand than me writing it in a comment.
Regarding time management, I have learnt to delegate lots of things. In the past I used to want to do everything myself and it used to get me burnt. Now, I only work on things that I know no one else can do better than me (e.g marketing and user acquisition for my startup, I live and breath this), but things like graphics design, social media content designs, website design or dev etc, even though I can do them - I delegate that to someone else on the team, this way I’m only working on what I’m at strongest at
      Cheers 🙏

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +4

      Oh yes this is important.
I’m not a fan of raising money from investors (this is just my personal view). Instead, I believe In “bootstrapping” which means I fund the startup (expenses, salaries, etc) from my own pocket.
Of course, not everyone will be able to fund their startup from their own pocket, so the move for them would be to pitch investors.
Maybe in the future, I might get funding from investors who knows but for now, I’m dead-lock on self-funding.
In terms of source of income to fund the startup, as an entrepreneur- I have other sources of income which I use to fund the startup in the earliest stages but now the startup makes enough money to pay for all expenses.

hey amigo thank for the interesting video!
my question for today is -
as a non technical founder, whne hiring developers and designers, how do you know they are qualified? how do you know their limits as developers?
and lastly how do you deal with wanting 1 thing and then they create another, because 2 people don't always think of the same idea.. thank you!

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +6

Hey Amigo! Thanks for watching and the question.
So, before I give my advice, I will like to point out that i was a freelance web designer for years (Wordpress websites, nothing too technical) but this experience of being a freelancer made me work with lots of clients and other freelancers, so I can tell straight away if someone is good or not because I now have the “bullshit detector”
So, even though I’m not “technical”, I have some level of experience and understanding of how designers, developers and freelancers work & think in general. So, I have an “unfair advantage when it comes to hiring” (just wanted to put that out there)
That being said, my advice is - when I want to hire someone, I first have to do research on the techstack required for the project.
So, let’s say the techstack for my project is “Python & NodeJs”, I would already know this before hand from research and then reach out to developers who have those skills and experience. This way I’m being very direct on who I need and what their techstack/experience must be.
Instead of saying “I need someone to build Project X for me”, I would say “I am looking for a Python and Nodejs expert who can build a project that does X, Y, Z”….This will strip out a lot of noise.
In the interview process I ask them to share projects they’ve built using those techstack and then we go from there.
You might ask - what if I don’t know the techstack of the startup or project I want to build? Well, there are tools online that can tell you the techstack behind any website.
About people creating something different from what you want, the way to avoid this is to ensure that from the get go, you as the founder are extremely clear on what the project is and what it’s not.
So, except you are creating the cure for cancer, there’s a 99% chance that there are already products (softwares) in the market that already do what you want to create (maybe you want to innovate on it) but it already exists, so it’s your job as the founder to have a list of these products and share them with the team so they know
I need to create a more in-depth video on this as I think I’m missing somethings in my reply but I hope this helps Amigo

hello i would ask a question about idea of a startup. How you can tell that people need a product that can help to solve their problem ? I mean how did you do the research ?
Thank you and i love your startup work vlog so much. it's inspired me to work harder. sorry for my bad English :)

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem

Hey Amigo, thanks for the comment and for watching.
      Your English is perfect!
So, my first advice would be to create a product in a niche/industry that you know and have personal connection with. This way even without much research, you kind of already know what the pain points are and if you will pay for a service that solves the pain point.
As a founder, you should be the ideal (and first) customer for your startup. i.e your startup should be solving a problem you had or have personal connection with.
With this out of the way, your market research will be easier because you know where to look.
That out of the way, when it comes to idea validation/research. It can take different angles. ( I will create a more indepth video on this soon because I can't go into depth with comment text compared to video)
The first layer is to look at the INDUSTRY itself. (but I believe there's always main industry category and sub categories)
So, let's take my startup for example, the main industry category is FOOTBALL and the sub-category is FOOTBALL BETTING. (some people can even argue that the main category is Sports Betting and the sub-cat is Football Betting)
A simple google search can let you know how big (size and money power) an industry has, then you can do the same for the sub-category.
      But let's go deeper.
Once you know the industry or sub-industry, you can then check things like websites, influencers or figures in that industry to see the type of numbers they are getting. - (ideally you will know this without research if you are creating a product that solves a problem you had or have or know people who have them)
So, I can check a betting site like Bet365.com or Trading site like Betfair.com or even just football sites and I can see the amount of traffic they are getting.
So, if there are millions of people in the niche/industry, the next question is "what are they trying to achieve?"
By asking what they are trying to achieve (their end goal), this will alllow you to know what makes them tick and what the pain points are that might be stopping them from achieving their end goal.
In my case - sports bettors want to make profit (money) from the bets they place. That is what they are trying to achieve at the end of the day.
What might hinder them from achieving that end goal? - If they place bets and the lose the bet, they will loose their money!
Loss of money, time or energy are really big pain points for any industry.
So, if your product can solve any of them - it's good, but if it can solve more than 1 of them, then you are on another level.
So, solving the pain point of "placing wrong bets that results in loss of money" is going to be a BIG if it can be solved.
Also, some people might spend hours doing manual research to decide what to bet on, if I can also solve the problem of cutting down hours of manual work everyday into just seconds and make it automated, then I am going above and beyond to also solve the time and energy pain points.
Another thing to look at is what are people currently using to solve their major pain points? There are always things people are already doing, your research will show you these things and you will be able to see how much is being charged and some gaps that they are not fufilling.
Remember, if you started this journey of research from the you having the pain - it will be very easy to see all these things very very easily.
      Hope this helps Amigo

      Hello Kennedy,
Here are the answers to your questions.
Question 1: how to you find developers?
ANSWER: I am creating a more indepth video on this on my next startup vlog. (much better to do it over video than text)
Question 2: do you ask developers to use a specific code or a platform such as bubble to build your app? And why?
ANSWER: I don't tell developers to use specific techstacks to be honest UNLESS i already know that's the techstack needed to make the project perfect.
e.g When we were building our mobile app, I specifically hired a developer who has experience in building cross-platform mobile apps with "React Native" and 1 year later, I hired another developer to re-create the app using "Flutter" due to some issues and limitations we faced with the React Native version.
Why did I want to build a corss-platform app? Because it's cost-effective and faster to do than creating native apps for each OS. So, as a founder - you need to work smarter (both in terms of speed / time to get things out there and also in terms of expenses )

During your market research of competitors, you will see what the websites and startups that solves the problem you are trying to solve are offering and what the gaps are.
Your goal is to ensure that your startup doesn't only solve the core pain point of the users but also fills the gap the other providers are not doing.

Is it going to be Programming? (coding) or Designing (UI/UX)
Once you have decided, then you need to spend however long it takes for you to hone your skills on that.
Sounds like you should first focus on being a freelancer (making money with your skills) rather than thinking about starting a startup because starting / running a startup requires having more to spend for servers, databses, expenses, salaries etc even when the startup makes $0.

      @lifeofnejo  Před rokem +1

Hey Amigo! Sorry I missed this comment and question! My CZcams app says i have replied all my comments.
No I’m not funded. I’m intentionally boostrapping for now, I’ve turned down investments from VC firms.
My team is currently 4 in total, including me 5!
I can’t remember correctly as I’m on the road typing this on my phone but the startup became profitable within 3 or 4 months after launch. (By profitable I mean I wasn’t taking money out of my pocket anymore to fund it, moneys made from the company was paying expenses, salaries etc)
