    1. Will not start a startup that requires a relation with a 3rd party API provider (if they go down, you go down) 2. Hire one frontend developer and one backend developer 3. Creating a product needs time and money, make sure you don't run out of money

    You were scammed mate, you can find an amazing UX designer that will build you a 20+ page app (like they did for me) in Ukraine for $500, the DB will cost $20 for any app before you have 100+ users. Telling you this as a developer and a founder

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the comment amigo. Price is contextual. So hiring someone who charges higher than others is not necessarily a “scam” I have built startups whereby the entire UI costed me below $800, I’ve built projects where the entire UI was $150 and I’ve built a project where the UI costed above $10k and I’ve built projects where I designed the UI myself. It depends on the project and what I’m looking for at that time. For my startup/project spoken about in this video, I hired someone with domain experience in the field I was building a project in and not just any UI designer. I was looking for both skill, ease of communication and domain experience. I wanted someone who had designed products in this space (which was the best decision for me and the startup at that time.) Because of his domain experience, he was able to provide 100x better user flow designs and experience than what I “the founder” could have ever thought to bring to the table. Besides him having domain experience in designing products within the space, he was also someone who is an avid user of products within the space, so he knew and understood the customer journey, pain points etc. This is not something just any designer will have. So I went very niche in my hiring-> A UI/UX designer who designs in my product space + a designer who understands the product and is a user of similar products. This is super niche and it was warranted for that project. So this comes at a premium which I was happy to pay, I could have gone for cheaper guys at any time. Heck, before I became a founder, I used to provide website designs (with Wordpress) for clients and I charged $3k above, these websites took me less than 2days because I leveraged plugins etc. You can get people to do the same work for $200 or even less. The clients weren’t scammed, they had other options especially with platforms like Fiverr but they chose me because of my approach to design and other things. If you are going through a divorce, you can hire any lawyer or hire a divorce lawyer whose domain is strictly divorces. Their cost will definitely be higher than the average lawyer or a general practise lawyer. Regarding DB cost, every project has different needs and architecture. So saying a DB will cost $20 for “any” app is not correct especially when you don’t know the architecture behind the app. We have more than 50 AWS Lambdas, countless Event Bridges, countless SQS and various EC2 instances + 101 other services that makes no sense for me to mention. The point is - different app or project has different architectural needs depending on the industry and problem being solved.

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo Před 3 měsíci

      For sure! I’m not sure what exactly you would like to know but here’s a summary; 1. I started off as a graphics designer. Then when I saw most clients who wanted logos also asked if I did website designs, I then learnt how to create websites with Wordpress. I later learnt digital marketing and SEO since most clients wanted to know how to make the website I built for them rank on google, etc. So, I have graphics design skills, web design (Wordpress) skills, digital marketing and SEO. But I dont actually write code. 2. I moved from Nigeria to London in 2015 to get a Masters in Business Information Systems Management. 3. I got the Exceptional Talent in Tech Visa from the UK, this is how I was able to stay back and continue living in London. 4. I create vlogs from time to time on my channel but I want to make it more consistent. Let me know if this gives a rough idea of my background. Cheers

You are right about UGC contents, the only issue is that sports betting (gambling) generally has a “soft bad rep”. 100s of millions of people bet on sports but if you ask anyone they will likely say they don’t because it’s lowkey a “taboo topic” I’m not sure if you understand what I mean or if I explained it how i intended to.

    I sometimes have this conversation with my fellow devs that some of the startups that I've built (many failed) If I were to pay would have cost me more than $90,000 honestly... like wher that kind money dey ....lol. It's also takes a lot of discipline to build something that's not making you money in the beginning, I totally relate with that to a degree. I know that your product is quite heavy but some people can go by with running their startups (in the early stages that is) on a few 100 to few 1000 dollars, If and only if the developers are builders and love what their building. If not costs can go way up..... Wondering how many users you guys are at now? Great videos as always Daniel. Blessings

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the comment and yes the cost does rack up! I think the people who got it “easy” are founders who are technical and can code! I envy them 😅 because they can build everything without hiring, for non-technical founders like myself, we have to hire developers or build a team to bring our ideas to reality! Regarding how many users our platform has, these figures are not public but it’s well over 40k+ last time I checked. ( … after typing this, I just realised I haven’t paid attention to number of users in so long because the platform now runs on auto-pilot and I basically only reply to support emails if any.)

    I have all the skills to create a start up, I have created apps for awesome companies contributing alot of money I can't disclose. but my mind is running wild with so many apps I would develop, because I've been in a few departments created apps and just learning how they work, but how do you research and exploit the niche?, how do you promote the app and given if you had a 8-4:30pm how would you have balanced it. let's say you didn't have thousands of pounds also lol

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo Před 3 měsíci

      Hey amigo! Thanks for the comment and question! So, I’ve never had a job, so I have no idea how to give advice related to managing a normal 9-5 and creating/running a startup. That being said, if I’m to give a generic advice, it would be “do not quit your job to start a startup, keep the job and do the startup on the side” until it starts making some type of money/profit because you will need some sort of income to maintain your life and also pay for expenses involved with creating a startup. Regarding how to research and exploit a niche, I’ve been thinking about creating a video about this because it’s a very deep conversation that requires its own video. I’ll make a note now to remind myself to bump that video up in my release schedule because other amigos have also asked this. But here’s the punchline, my advice is to create a startup that you have “some type of” experience in, understand / faced the issue or problem yourself (or someone in your circle) AND most importantly- create something people are already paying for i.e create something that paying for the solution of that pain or need is natural to people in the niche! I say this because there are a lot of “nice to have” products people are spending months, man power and money building that won’t make a dime let alone break even or make profit. I always advice people to create things that people either already pay for or already over pay for it’s alternative. Hope this helps. (I wrote this reply on a walk, so excuse any typos) Stay blessed amigo 💚

    Hi Amazing content, I see that you use slack, How do you hire the freelancers to connect to slack etc. ? Awaiting for your reply many thanks.

      Hey Amigo! Thanks for the comment. I use slack to speak to someone after I have hired them. Before hiring, I always chat with telegram. I mainly hire people from Upwork, so from Upwork I get them on telegram, have a zoom call etc before we start talking on slack. I have a video on my channel where I break down how I hire developers to my team! 🙏

    Great view, i am also a frontend developer and during my learnings, i got two ideas of building both mobile and web application, one is a social media app and the other is an ai, i have not started them yet because i come from africa and here investors and technology is too low, now i need to migrate or move to countries good in technology and good at marketing because right now i have found out that even if you have a great idea with poor marketing, you die with your idea in your mind, so i need to move to countries like US, UK, china , india because those are some of the countries i know good in technology business, i also started a website 2 month ago and have also got like 200 to 300 users but i lack marketing and the bad thing am doing this alone, i need help or group so that i can share them with my ideas and see if they can join me but it is also hard, but what i request, you can give me some advice or anything you know which can help me, and also the website i started is called mergesociety.com

    Hi Nejo, what's your take on having two full stack developers, as against a frontend and a backend dev. since the challenge you mentioned is about burnout, because as developer myself, the frontend most times now depends on the backend and leads to blockers a lot of the time

    • @JohnDataAnalyst
      @JohnDataAnalyst Před 3 měsíci

      Don’t you think 2 full stacks won’t be more expensive than a frontend and a backend?

    • @abayomioloyinde
      @abayomioloyinde Před 3 měsíci

      @@JohnDataAnalyst Maybe slightly expensive I am not sure, but depending on the tech stack and complexity, most frontend dev. can now write backend code

    • @lifeofnejo
      @lifeofnejo Před 3 měsíci

      Hey Amigo, sorry for the late reply. I think 2 full stack would be good but from my personal experience, most full stack are not VERY VERY good either front end. (Personal experience) So, people who are strictly front end are able to do better front end tasks compared to a full stack (again, just my personal experience) That being said, I’ve seen that full stack who are now full stack but started as front end tend to be the “best” types of full stack (in my opinion and personal experience) So, for me I’ll have 2 full stack if one of them started as front end and then matured into full stack but I’ll never hire 2 full stacks that were first backend devs before maturing to full stack. Hope this makes sense
