Been sewing for 35+ years. Thought I'd seen all the tricks. This is the best one EVER!
Immediately saved for future reference!
Great! Hopefully future you will thank current you when you need it. 😁
Thank you! I’m new to sewing, and we just finished a mother-daughter skirt project that closed entirely with buttons. Let’s just say I’m SUPER motivated to learn zippers now 😅. In all seriousness, I’m feeling less intimidated (and thankful for your walking foot ideas, too).
You're welcome! Ha ha, there's always a more annoying way to do things isn't there? In your case buttons vs. zipper. 🤣 I hope this will help your future projects!
I am so excited to try this! You seriously demystify the scariest parts of sewing. Thank you
Aww I love hearing that, thank you 🥰
Praise for hand basting! It just makes things easier. Very well-produced video.
Thanks! Yes, love a good hand baste. I always find it helpful in annoying tricky bits too instead of pins sometimes.
I enjoyed this video so much, Thank you. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
Thank you. You are such a great teacher. I feel confident I can do this now!
You're very welcome, and thanks for the compliment on my teaching!
Excellent video, thank you
You are welcome! ☺️
Grrrrreat instructional video! Thank you 🎉
You're very welcome!
I don’t think I’ve seen this exact method anywhere, thanks! I saw the basted seam tip years ago on Sandra Betzina’s show, but I always struggle getting the overlap to work right. For some reason I don’t have trouble with invisible zippers, but you’re right, they’re not so trustworthy on a tight garment 😂
You're welcome! I also find being able to get into a dress with a center back lapped zipper is something I can juuust do up by myself, whereas the one ready-to-wear dress with an invisible zipper that I have, I definitely cannot without assistance, or a tool (which I don't have). 😂
Can’t wait to try this!! Thank you ❤
You are so welcome!
@@tashacouldmakethatOkay tried it and it’s a game changer! At first it seemed a little fiddly (though admittedly rayon prob not the best fabric choice for a first run) but I’m sold-it turned out almost perfect ❤ thanks again!!
@@nicoled2831 yay, love hearing that!!
Thank you!
You’re welcome! 😊
I like to widen the zipper area seam allowance even more, to maybe 3/4 inch, to allow for fudging that zipper alignment.
Thanks again, Tasha!! You do a fabulous job of teaching!!!! I am grateful!
Wow, my mind has been blown. I've done so many lapped zippers, but I'm never totally comfortable with them and never 100% satisfied with the result. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks, Tasha! I'm SO excited to try out this technique on my current sewing project, which happens to be a pair of pants. The only question is whether I wait two days for my walking foot to come in the mail, or cave to temptation and do it now with a zipper foot! 😆
Wait for the walking foot!! But seriously I'm sure it's fine if you don't. I know waiting is hard. 😂 If you don't wait, you may want to try starting at the bottom and working your way towards the waist instead. I hope this works out for you!!
@@tashacouldmakethat Fate decided for me and I ended up being way busy hosting family from out of town over the weekend to do any sewing. So I did my zipper today, with my new walking foot! 😄It came out PERFECTLY. By far and away, my neatest lapped zipper ever. Thank you so much, Tasha! ❤
@@jessieatterholt3957 YAY! So happy this worked so well for you!!
Thanks for this lesson, it's exactly what I needed. Are you going to include a video on skirt vents? I always have trouble with getting the finishing tidy.
Thanks, glad to hear it! Perhaps someday on skirt vents, though I tend to prefer kick pleats over vents more often than not, when I do a straight skirt, so I'm more keyed into that method.
Great tips, never thought about the benefits of using longer zip and cutting off top! Im getting back into sewing after some years. I always hated doing zippers but I really like your method and it's a real improvement from what I was taught years ago. I also love your pattern matching video, your method works like a charm! ❤
Thanks, glad to hear it! This was the first method that really clicked for me, for lapped zippers. I can't actually remember how I was doing them originally, and I felt it was fine, but not amazing. It's a great feeling to hit on something that just works for you!
I love your tutorials. I've always dreaded doing lapped zips. I'm definitely going to give lapped zips a go for my next dress project.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I struggle quite a lot with lapped zippers, but this has so many awesome tips and tricks!
You’re so welcome, hope the tips help you like they’ve helped me! ☺️
You give some of the most amazing sewing tips. Thank you so much!!! The tip about sewing a zipper with a walking foot brilliant! As soon as I was done with this video, I had to go on your page to look for the tips of Sewing with a walking foot. I watch a lot of people Sewing because I’m still so new to Sewing and you are really one of the only people that gives such amazing and VERY helpful tips. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for the kind words, I'm glad you're finding my videos helpful in your sewing journey! I love to share what I know and have learned along the way-- and am still learning! There's always something more to know. 😁
That was great! I’ve saved it for future reference. I don’t like zippers so I don’t do them often so I always have to look it up
Thanks, hope it'll help you in the future ☺️
Thanks so much. Such a helpful video since I always agonize over the zipper insertion steps. Will refer back to this video often. 👏.
You are so welcome! There will be more in the series coming over the next few months, so hopefully those will be useful resources for you too. :)
Thank You for this knowledge ❤ I love, love, love Your esthetic. Greetings from Poland 🌹
You're welcome, and thank you! 🥰
Thanks for this very informative video. Would it be at all possible to demonstrate a hand sewn zipper.
You're welcome! If by hand sewing you mean finishing it by prick stitching by hand vs. topstitching on the machine? A Closet Historian's lapped zipper tutorial (I linked it in the video description) has a good example of doing prick stitching.
OMG, this worked! I’ve never done a lapped zipper before and followed your tutorial to put my zipper on my right hip (just for maximal confusion!) and so did everything mirror image, and I just took out my basting stitches and voila! Zipper!!! Now, will these pants fit……..? 😅
YES! So glad it worked well for you, and for your first lapped zipper! 🥇🏆
Great video, really love you style of presenting! Your teeth look amazing by the way!!
Thank you!! A couple of them decided not to fully participate in the Invisalign process and one of them has moved a bit since finishing so they aren't Hollywood perfect or anything, but very happy with the results. 😁
I FEAR the SIDE ZIP, i cant get my arm / hands to zip up well… are there some better zippers than others?
Inzidzible zippers are the bezzt
I mean inzidzible zippers are better than invisible zippers IMHO 😂🤣
