Her popularity came from her appearances in the Dark Horse Star Wars comics particularly _The_ _Hunt_ _for_ _Aurra_ _Sing_ story arc that established her backstory as being once affiliated with the Jedi and from the Clone Wars volumes where she did assassin jobs for Separatist sympathizers that got the attention of the Jedi.

This would eventually lead to an intervention by the Jedi Council when it was discovered that the Tusken Warlord leading the raids was a well known Jedi. With the Jedi involved the job became a lot more personal for Aurra Sing.

      Joe Kerr you can spot it at two moments. One is when the announcer says “start your engines” and the ~thing where Qui-Gon and the others watch the race~ starts rising. The camera captures the grid far on the background and Neva’s pod is right there on the back row. The second time you can see it is when Anakin is joining the pack a few moments after he manages to take off. It’s very dim and hard to see but he’s there, it’s seen for a fraction of a second alongside Wan Sandage, right before the camera cuts to show Anakin overpassing Clegg Holdfast.

    I remember reading at the time, maybe it was just a rumor, that Aurra was going to be in Ep. II and play the part that Zam Wesell played i.e. the bounty hunter hired by Jango Fett to assassinate Amidala. But because Aurra took off in popularity after The Phantom Menace, they decided not to kill her off in Episode II. So she of course made it onto other things like The Clone Wars show and Legends comics. A comic I read recently ('The Hunt For Aurra Sing') explained she was a former Padawan with the Dark Woman as her master but they fell out and Aurra didn't continue her training. I think she was popular after Phantom Menace because she had a cool look, and she was a female bounty hunter. There weren't many female villains back then, and TPM seemed to indicate she would be something more. It's too bad she didn't continue in the movies but I am glad she got some life in the comics and novels. I do wish she was in the movies more, not just mentioned in 'Solo.'

    I remember all the hype around this character in 1998 and 1999 and 2000. I feel like this was the first character that spawned a generation of people who went overboard with Star Wars. She is not significant I don't care what anybody says expanded universe Legends whatever for somebody who got this much hype and love for only a few seconds of screen time in the movies which is the true Canon... Overhyped is too nice a word to use

    • @starwars90001
      @starwars90001 Před 5 lety +8

      My friend you like the wrong franchise if your complaining about that, Star Wars has always taken some minor character or event and expand out. Both the new and old canon do this all the time even Lucas did it with Boba Fett, making a clone of someone else and first clone of an army.

    • @levigfoster
      @levigfoster Před 5 lety +4

      Well that's not her only appearance, dude. She was a major character in a story arc from TCW, which is definitely canon. She was also referenced in Solo to get us Clone Wars fans hyped up. I understand that she had no relevance in TPM back in the '90s, but that's the past and she's an important part of the prequel era underworld.

    • @DefConprime28
      @DefConprime28 Před 5 lety

      @@starwars90001 no but that's what my complaint is is that for somebody who gets a lot of hype she was never adamantly portrayed in the movies. Some of us fans don't watch the Clone War cartoons or read every single book or Happy Meal story that comes out they only go by the movies so until she prominent in the movies she's an overhyped ancillary character

      @@andycalmes4201 I didn't know that expressing an unpopular opinion made me a troll. I know I'm in the minority here on this opinion and no you can't say that about 97% of the characters I'm addressing movies only not expanded universe and stuff like that. It's just that if you're a fan of the movies and not a fan of the books in the cartoons and all that expanded stuff there's no reason why the movie fans should be getting hate from the so-called hardcore fans in the end everybody loves Star Wars I'm just expressing my opinion that as a fan of the movies only she's an overhyped character that had no bearing on anything involving the movies. And if you were around in 1999 you'll remember the marketing they were pushing her like she was some kind of big character. Just like Little Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones they were pushing him like he was a big deal and I think he had like six lines the whole movie. They over Market these characters and then you watch the movies and they're nowhere to be found in such an impactful way to have to find the stories and expanded universe is ridiculous. That's what I'm saying that doesn't make me a troll just makes me have an unpopular opinion just like everybody else is allowed to have

    • @MrSeals1000
      @MrSeals1000 Před 5 lety +1

      @@DefConprime28 I agree that most of her hype is undeserved. But again, it's what star wars fans have done since star wars first came out. Every single background character in the cantina scene from the original star wars has a huge backstory. So it's not really a surprise that the same would happen with her, especially since she was teased so much coming into the releasing of the movie. Those things are bound to happen, and it's fine to not really have much interest in them.
      The movies never really take these side characters and make them an absolutely integral part of the story **cough** admiral ackbar. But I think it is fine for these smaller characters to get their own spotlight outside of the movies, even if many people dont even know their stories happen, or that those people dont care at all that this small character got a backstory. The universe normally doesnt force them into your path if you arent looking for it, so it's good for anyone. Since the people who want to know more, can. And those who dont want to know more, dont have to(most of the time, and even then, it's not usually required, but helps with spotting easter eggs/helps with some context).
