- June 20/2024. After 4 encounters with friendly people who wanted to pose for photos with me, the way too positive vibe had to be balanced out by this mutant, who skateboards in out of nowhere to attack my pedalboard at 17:15
Two expensive pedals destroyed, one cheaper pedal destroyed. Now I can't even sell my pedals for food! I was planning to sell all three this week to keep eating! How will I go on living?
Did he have a bad experience with a pedal? With Santana? Then he runs off like a coward when I walk up to him. I'm not impressed. Doesn't he know that pedal lives matter?
Is mental illness a thing with skateboarders? I had a run in last year with a skateboarder about 40 years old carrying booze, who said I should not be busking here because I was depriving the homeless of a begging spot. Can't argue with that logic.
This asshole wasn't too smart. I got a full description and video uploaded to the Vancouver police dept. Warrant is out. Make this video go viral. Help me find this scum. He’s likely living in downtown Vancouver, or close, likely unemployed, as this was 1:30 pm on a weekday. This is not random. This is planned. Any lead will be rewarded with major bandcamp downloads.
I want to thank Wampler and Keeley for replacing and repairing my pedals, for free. I even got a new improved version of the Dual fusion. Great service, and that's why I stick with companies like this. Pay a bit more for the pedals, but service is worth it. In contrast, companies like Joyo, where you pay $50 a pedal, don't even respond to you when you write them.

Never bring up age, its unavoidable to us all. I'm 50 and skateboarding was huge in the late 80s and 90s. My last board was stolen so not sure how long i would have skated. I really sucked so not that long lol. Now his outfit and the obligatory tattoos is another thing. Looked like the singer from Smash Mouth. Which i would like to do to him.

@angusorvid8840 that’s the amazing thing. I am treated worse than an actual drug dealer or criminal. The hate towards musicians and buskers is fascinating. When I grew up it was a cool thing to play guitar and study to be a musician. I don't know why it became uncool. another busker I know says he was hit with a beer bottle the day before.
@@shatnershairpiece It's the same here in L.A. Although I've never busked anywhere, I've known many who have, and other street performers including many at Venice Beach. It's a hard way to make a living on a good day. You really have to be on top of your game, all the time. And the unfortunate thing is we live in a society where art and artists are treated with disdain, as though we are doing some disservice to the harmony of the spheres that keep the business world turning. We're treated as though we are in their way. Or, a novelty. "Look! A man playing guitar/saxophone/violin. Let's go bug him! I'm gonna stuff a few bills in his saxophone, see if that'll shut him up. Ha Ha Ha!" We're treated like beggars in a world that doesn't give a hoot about the poor, the unfortunate, and the creative. Society has become crass and uncultured. I don't know the situation in Canada regarding school music programs, but they've all but eliminated them here in the states. Only the very wealthy school districts have music programs. When I was in school even a poor kid like me could still learn piano, or if we played trumpet or violin, use an instrument on load from the school, which many of my friends did. I was lucky in that my parents gave me a Yamaha trumpet when I was nine, and a guitar when I turned eleven. This harsh attitude towards artists and their art they create comes from a place of barbarity. It's tough to deal with. I hope it can change. I'd love to tell you to keep fighting the good fight. But you shouldn't have to fight. You should be able to get respect simply for being a human being who plays wonderful music.

I have had kids on the street take my picture and tell me they had never seen a live musician before. no one even understands what a musician is anymore. they can’t be bothered to spend years themselves learning an instrument, takes way too much time. video games and tik tok are more fun. you know you’re living in a clown world when somebody making a reaction video about some song they just heard gets 100,000 clicks while me improvising the song on the street gets 300 clicks. lowest common denominator garbage is what people consume.

They don't dedicate themselves to long-term disciplines or crafts like learning an instrument or writing because they are addicted to the instant dopamine high that comes with pushing a button and letting AI do everything. One reason learning an instrument is beneficial to children is that it shows them the art of mastery. To master a skill you must be a good student and admit you don't know it all, or anything, and be open to learning. Mastering the guitar, violin, sax, piano, painting, sculpture, teaches you how to learn. Once you understand what it is to be disciplined and follow through you have an advantage in life most people lack. To learn discipline is to learn to control your own mind, your own thought process. Our mind can be our own biggest enemy, or our best friend.

I've started to play more often at Canada place, which has lots of security. It can be hit and miss there depending on time of day, but it's almost all tourists and no psychos. I get used to being completely ignored, but being attacked while making music is getting ridiculous. Even a drug dealer at this spot wouldn't be attacked like this.

glad you enjoy it. I used to be in bands about 10 years ago, but all the clubs closed and there’s no more work. I been skateboarding for about 30 years and from what I can tell looking at that guy he probobly uses his skateboard as a transportation around town, so most likely hes probobly not hanging out at the nearest local skatepark. You can see it when he rolls in that he probobly doesn´t have the balance of someone that uses their board for more than going to point A and B. Also he doesn´t seem to have skate shoes on, just regular runnershoes maybe. I could be wrong!
I would guess that some sort of local skateboard media related instagram page would be able to find out maybe! Its usually a small community!

How someone could do this is beyond me. If you really don't want to listen to someone who's sharing their talents with the world, then you're not forced to, just walk the other way and don't bother them. Thank you for continuing to play even with the continuous risk of these psychopaths harassing you. Your music truly does bring some life to this otherwise declining city.

Destroying a pedalboard should be a capital offense. I don't think I can watch this. I've never witnessed a pedalboard attack. Graphic images may be too disturbing. Sorry for your loss. As a pedal lover, this truly breaks my heart.
