We miss you here!
Not seen you for a while. Hope you, Mrs Involvo'd and the kid are doing well. Have a great holiday and hope to see more Volvo tinkering soon ❤
I think it’s funny Americans swap to e codes and Europeans swap to the quad lights.
Nothing's cool if everyone else has it.
So.... You have a set of e codes for sale? 😁
@@DaveBenson they’re currently on my car haha
Grass is always greener on the other side!
I’m from america and I’m glad we have the quad lights. I prefer the look. I don’t give in to what others like. 😂
as a yank, I think the euro look is better but I get where you are coming from. Hope you and the Mrs (and the little one) are doing great. great video
Miss. 🙂
Thanks, that's usually how it seems to go 😀
As a subscriber, feel abandoned by your channel, but hay-ho I suppose needs must. I wish you and your lovely family all the best for the future. Both myself and my 740 estate will miss you loads.😢
One of my favorite channels I thought he just moved to patreon but I click the link and it's like blank?
Looks good, but I don't like the Patreon news. One more platform to register to and to check. 😔
Agreed. This is a bad decision.
Both frontends looks fantastic. 😍😍👍
The flashing indicators look so cool!! I like both the european and US headlights.
The fact about the quad headlights in the US blew my mind. Crazy that the goverment decided which lights to use.
Thanks! I originally had the indicators on the side lights where they used to be with the e codes but I think it looks cooler this way 😄
@@Involvod Didn´t know that. Thought that the indicators were supposed to be like that 😲 So the center bulbs are actually only for the hazard lights?
Are you planning to install foglights in/on/at (English language 😅) the bumper?
It was kind of a good idea at the time since you get a new reflector every time you change the bulb. Too bad it ruins the looks of european cars.
@@nilslorenz6554 the way I have it now is how they have it in America, but some people over here have the lower ones as parking/position lights and the outer side lights as indicators. I might keep an eye out for a set of front fog lights and try them out 👍
Hope to see you back with more Volvo delight soon! 🙏
It's funny when you see Euro cars on American channels with federal lights and bumpers, you'd be begging them to change back to the clean European look. Does look good, chrome grill and fog lights would finish the American look no end.
You should get a roll of black cloth tape, that does make nice cable harnesses.
I have to say, when I saw the title and the picture, I was like: has he gone mad? Thats a horrible idea. Why? But now as I see it, I have to confess, it does look kind of cool. And the badge just finishes it off.
Thanks
am quite sad that you have moved your videos from youtube to patreon where you need to pay for watching your videos. I loved watching them here on youtube where i can watch them for free and yes there is ads and so on but who cares. Sad not be able to watch my favurated Volvo youtuber anymmore.
Love that front 😍. Thinking about building such lights for my 940
Thanks! It's a bit more work on the 940 but it's probably worth it 😀
I have always loved that front on the estates ever since I seen it on my friends 760 in Canada and his father's 244 it makes the front of the car look so good they should have done a twin indicator bulb in the set up but still it does look great 👌👍👍👍✅
Thanks! I agree, it's a bit weird that only the inside part of the indicator flashes it would be better if it went all the way across
I did this very same thing on my '77 264 GL way back in '87. It looked and worked great and I never regretted it! Btw, back then I was able to buy everything that I needed for the conversion directly from Volvo. Easy but fairly expensive.
Nice, I can't imagine such a time 😄 Strange to think this car hadn't even been built yet. I found a car wash receipt in it the other day from 1993, the car was over 5 years old at that point, I was only 8 months 🤣
@@Involvod Only 8 months, huh? I think I may have underwear older than that! lol
Absolutely love them, ive been torn about doing the same on my flat front 740, but for now im keeping the yellow big lumps in
I think it looks great. I actually always liked more US-Style headlights in (almost) any car. But in this case it fits so well because of car style (kinda old US boxy design). I like it!
I totally agree!
That looks really good :)
A couple of Volvo guys I know in the UK have fitted the US/Canada headlights to their cars, a 1986 760 Turbo Intercooler estate and a 1988 740 GLE estate, respectively.
Very cool
I don't get it. Here in America, we are envious of European lights and change out our ugly quad headlights.
picked up a 240 that sat for 10 years, thankfully in a barn, so no rust. found your video and just finished binge watching every single one on your channel. thanks for the entertainment and education. much love from Russia
Wow! It looks amazing. More strong and big for me. My mind also blows with the same lights in different cars.
Right?!
Super cool, and seeing you so happy, I’d say it’s meant to be like this. Enjoy the new look of Elsa.
Good Luck with the move, hope it all goes well and one day you can have a space to work on the Volvos again and come back to youtube.
I love the look of cuadra lights.... Can I sugest painting the faded gril black, it wold light up the front
jajaja never mind, just watch the rest of the video 😅
Haha 😆
Nice work, especially considering the condition in which the parts were.
The main problem with these is that they're sufficient to be seen but honestly they are quite insufficient when driving in the countryside.
If you want to stick to sealed beams there are uprated versions now available (and not that pricy) or you could consider go to H4/H1 conversion. Hella still makes these I believe.
They would pass the test.
Keep up the good work always a pleasure watching your videos!
Thanks for the info, that's definitely the long term plan 👍
If you look at the bumper @0:35, you can see that even the water is working ;P
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! I prefer the quads on my 88 740 GLT (coffin nose as these cars are lovingly called) to the what I call (bubble gum look) plastic lenses of the 92 740 Turbo wagon which I am told cannot be easily converted to quads. I did convert my 93 240 wagon from plastic North American to glass euro lenses which is definitely an upgrade. Again no easy conversion to quads for those later year 240s. Those plastic reflector and turn light bar in the quad combo where in the euro models the headlight wiper/washer goes disintegrates in these older cars and I have found aftermarket ones which also seem to be of relative poor quality but at least I did not have to make my own which I was seriously contemplating. You would think that the engineers at Volvo would have placed the turn indicator in the lateral corner lights but no they put the turn indicator in that reflector bar right under the high beam of the headlights. (and left only the parking lights in the corners with an empty space where you would think they would have put the turn indicator.) Anyway I like the quad conversion you are doing.
I actually tried the indicator in the corner lamps and the parking lights in the lower lamp and it works great! I've seen a few people here do that, the bulb holder is the same etc. But I think this way looks cooler 😄
Looks quite nice.
I prefer the European lights, especially with the wipers. It might have looked OK with round quads as it would make the car look slightly less boxy.
The increased boxiness is doing it for me! 😄
Looks really good ! 🎉
Love it, far prefer the US fit; this style really does compliment the boxiness of the 740s (any 80s box, really) perfectly.
Thanks, agreed!
Looks like it snuck right in from the us!, #Volvoforlife, love the channel and the videos and a bit of a late congrats on the 3rd family member 👏! Wont be long before a 16 year old first Volvo reveal, the lambda sensor badge is a real nice touch, I’ve blacked and silvered many grills and in the case of the beautiful metallic blue Volvo paint I would have to agree silvering up that grill would really make it pop!
Thanks man I totally agree! And thanks for the support since way back when!
i miss your awsome volvo videos :( hope you get some inspiration to make some more :) /Henric-sweden
Looking good!
One thing i wish he did. was upload unedited videoes to youtube and the edited ones to patreon. anyone agree?
Looks good I have to admit. It's just a shame you can't get them with twin headlamp wipers! Now that would be cool.
This looks sick! Also a good today I learned about the us headlights
Thanks man 👍
Idk how you find time for all this great projects, but admiration! 😅
You and me both! Thanks 😄
Massive difference 😁
It really is!
Missing you!
QUADS! Hell yeah!
Once you get some good new H1/H4 housings in there, you'll be able to see at night! Not that 740 euro glass headlights are bad, but theyre still over 30 year old tech.
I found these sealed beams to be about the same as the old Euro lights I had in there, it's OK but yeah I'm looking forward to the new H4 and H1, bit worried about the extra wattage when the high beam is on, double what the car is used to 😅
Really digging this ya know
Thanks man 😎
At least they are Halogen sealed beams. The old British round sealed beams where tungsten and appalling - think they where standard on lots of 60's and 70's cars i.e. Escorts, mini etc. To keep 2 or more wires together you can put one end in a vice and the other in a battery drill and twist them, then a little tug secures the twist. Then solder up as you did.
A lot of people say even these halogen ones are bad but I honestly find them quite ok at night! Thanks for the tip 👍
I know I already commented on your Patreon post. But my buddy Michael was the one who sent you these lights! Without him, I wouldn't have the turbo wagon, the gray sedan and a ton of the parts I currently have on my Canadian 245! Also. He was there when I pulled the distributor that I sent you!
The lights look awesome. It's weird to hear you both refer to something as "American" 😂😂😂
It's a small small world isn't it 😂
You could go into any car parts store in the US and buy replacement headlights for any car. Early 140’s and 240’s had sealed beam lights in the UK.
You've got me thinking about quad lights on my 940 now. I don't know if they were ever available.
On another issue. It's a joy to hear you pronounce "solder" correctly. I cringe every time an American says "sodder". It is unnecessarily lazy to delete the "l". Cheers.
Haha we normally delete T's instead, "Bo'Oh'O'Wa'er". I think it's difficult to do on the 940, but not impossible! 😀
looking good man 👍
Thanks 👍
Here in amerikaw my car came with the quad lights, the sealed beam headlights are very poopy. I picked up a set of conversion lenses that utilize the replaceable h4 halogen bulbs. Much brighter. Recently I started using the led h4 bulbs with excellent results.
Hella sells them also there’s a company called auto pal that sells a budget version.
Gets a person away from dim poopy sealed beams.
Thanks, that's the plan eventually. But to be honest I find these sealed beams to be about as good as the Euro e-codes I had in before, maybe they weren't in the best shape.. 😄
Looks great, lamda zond badge was a nice addition. Only thing that's missing now is a roof rack isn't it? Always wanted these headlights on mine, but sold my pre facelift model, now I have the ugly facelift 740.
Is there an alternative where you can use normal bulbs? Maybe headlamps from a Renaul 11, before the facelift?
There are small H4 and H1 light housings that you can get as an affordable direct replacement, makes it cheaper in the long run too as you can just replace the bulb instead of the whole light as with the sealed beams
you should be able to buy replacement headlights that use replaceable bulbs from USA from Hella or Slyvania etc. Quite a common upgrade.
Nice choice, now 2 foglights on the front spoiler
So good!!!
Thanks 👍
Love them. If you can get the oblong Volvo fogs that would complete the look.
Id be tempted to try using the day running lights as the indicators, would make them much more visible.
In Sweden you can buy those US bulb holders that you searching for
Thanks, I'll try and find them 👍
@@Involvod I found them on the Swedish website Vparts
Waw looks fantastic
Thank you so much
Did you figure out the no start issue?
I love the look of it! And actually all chrome in the front looks very good with those US headlights. I think that maybe people like more the egg crate black design because it resembles more the turbo version? I like the black grille look because it makes that oblique chrome line with the Volvo badge in the middle really pop up even in the distance. Looking great! I also like those little inserts here and there that you've done in the edit. Keep it up!
I agree and think you might be right there! Thanks 👍
I love the look of that, well worth doing 👍
Thanks
Initially they could only have single 7 inch round headlights.
Then in the late 50s they approved quad 5.75 inch headlights.
Then in the 70s they approved the 5x7 and 4x6 rectangular headlights. This will blow your mind they only approved halogen headlights in then 1970s.
Replaceable bulb aero headlights only were approved in the 1980s.
Where i can buy quad light?
Nice lights
Thanks 👍
The indicators would be nice if it lit up more of the oblong light. Should of had 2 bulbs per indicator on each side. Or yellow led strip?
That's exactly what I thought!
I'm so jealous 😍. I guess the 240 can only get quads as 85 models with the long nose
Yeah sadly the newer front it's a lot more difficult to do it, but possible 😉
as long as you don't need new TÜV 😇
One of the very few 80s euro cars that actually look good with us spec lights fitted. Though to me, the lack of wash wipe makes me stick with the original lights on my own 740s hehe. How do these compare at night by the way in terms of vision? Curious.
I know what you mean, it was difficult to lose the headlamp wipers they are such an iconic feature on these cars.
To be honest despite hearing everyone bash the old sealed beams I actually find them more than adequate at night, not really any worse than the old e code lights but they do have a bit more of a narrower focused beam, it's like having 2 flashlights on the front of the car 😀
mate, unrelated question that i can't seem to find an answer to using google. volvo 740 sedan facelift - how the hell do i get to license plate bulbs? i can't seem to get to them from the inside of the trunk, nor there are any screws on the outside. are they some sort of push fit? want to confirm before i try to push them, don't want to break anything
Awesome! Now you just need a couple of LED bulbs...
Hello sir, I hope you can help me with the problem that my Volvo 940 Turbo is consuming unreasonably, what is this caused by? Please help, I've been working on it for 1 month and the problem hasn't been resolved
Please put the alloys back on! They fit tje US look perfectly
I rate it!
Very nice! Always like the us front. it looks so 80 s so great! I will try to find one in Sweden.
Thanks I agree. It's a super popular mod in Sweden as I'm sure you know, but people are happily paying $1000 for a decent set 😮
@@Involvod I try to sell my sets for a reasonable price but everyone backs off once they learn the shipping costs are going to be $300 USD or more
@@Schwedenstahl245 it's a lot isn't it, shipping is cheaper through eBay and if the parts are declared as under a certain value there's no customs duty and tax to pay but it still a fair few bucks. How much are you asking? I always thought you were in Germany with that username!
@@Involvod I ask $300 per set and I currently live in the USA.
However, I lived in Germany for a year, and I have a B.A. in German; I've also completed all the coursework for a Master's of Arts in German.
@@Schwedenstahl245 ah very nice! That's a great price I would have bought those off you, in fact I still would now if I had the extra cash. I'll let you know if I come across anyone here looking for a set, whenever they come up for sale online here they are always €1000
It is funny some Volvo guys here change to E-codes and now I am seeing some Euro guys changing theirs to US/CDN spec.
Oh that looks great! How about swapping a couple of tips. I use" grip tape" for bats etc as electrical insulation tape, it seems to be a little bit more sticky, and has a more classic cloth look.
Also I've just come across WAGO connectors, they clip shut on Your wire and can be unclipped easily. What are those connectors name. Best Wishes Dee
love it, I just hope you wont come across any policeman who is very bored with his live and has no friends...
Haha it's always a worry 😅
Have you ever had a chance to play with a 760? The v6 one.
any idea why only one headlight would burn out? my 740 seems to eat lights, the highbeam on the burnt out side still works but i had replaced a headlight unit and quickly after it went out.
I'm not sure to be honest, I don't know much about electrical stuff but I would probably have a good inspection of the wiring and make sure all the connections look good and clean 🤔 Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it 🤞
Look for a high resistance connection. If you have a clamp multimeter that can measure dc amps that is pobably the easisest way. Otherwise Id start from the lamp holder and follow the loom until I found something dogy. Worked on a newish golf which had a bad lamp holder (from factory) and it had melted the headlight fixture so it had to be changed at £1000 from the scrapyard.
Won't this be an issue for the Tuv?
Yes definitely, at the least I need to swap out the sealed beams for e code approved light units that have the right beam pattern, but I think I'll swap back to the old lights for the tüv and use the time whilst the quads are out to fix them up a little bit better
How much do you want for the wiper motors???
Sorry I'm going to keep hold of them in case I need to put the old e codes back in!
its probably allowed bc the swedish cars came with the USA headlights as a option back in the day. so it should be allowed by the german car inspection, bc its allowed by the swedish car inspection, both are part of the EU and should be able have factory original parts on it. tho i cant be sure, i live in sweden, not germany
Awesome :)!
Glad you like it!
Very Nice 😉👍👍👍👍👍
As an american, I much prefer the euro ones, but do whatever you like, good content!
it's always like this. european wants us lights, us people want euro lights. not only in volvo communuty but also in bmw, mercedes etc.
Would also be nice to put the white reflective tape in the front bumper and red in the rear, I think that was an original option
I'm definitely considering doing that!
In 1986 I was fortunate enough to order a 745 Turbo, manual transmission, and the Euro E Code lights would have cost me an extra $1,200.00. I installed 4 Cibie halogen for $200.00. CDN. So, to me you're going backwards. Wondering what TUF thinks of your modification?
I'm in Australia and I'm jealous as I'd like to do the same mod on one of my 740's. Too expensive to import these nowadays.
I would have liked a video on how to repair the headlight wipers :(
the clips on the chrome bit for my headlights are also non existent but the hood being closed keeps them in there xD
Haha I did wonder if that would work 😂
Why not scan and 3d print the bulb holder you need?
I didn't know such a thing could be done! 😀
I followed your Patreon and move to your Vimeo channel, but there seems to be no activity anymore on any of those. I hope you are doing well. Julien
I have to say, I think Volvo do a nicer job of styling than the Americans.
Why would anyone want the same lights as every other car in America?
what happened to the guy?
Only missing some ocean mk18’s 😂😎
So you've decided that your headlights were too good, and decided to swap them over for something less dazzling?
Yeah for real old ones are so much better
I can’t believe that would be an issue for the inspection. Why so strict about modifications? With the American military bases in Germany I’m sure there must be a number of U.S. cars
The main problem here is the beam pattern doesn't light up the street signs etc because it doesn't kick up, it's just a flat beam. But I don't know where the general strictness for modifications stems from, I wonder how many accidents were caused by modifications? 🤔 Perhaps the sections of no speed limit autobahn have something to do with it
Meanwhile every US owner is willing to pay a fortune for e-codes to convert their car to “euro spec”..😂
Grass is always greener on the other side…
I can only speak for myself, I'm in europe.. but I have always felt that the euro ones are too big, and makes the car look really "cheap" compared to the us ones. also, Vparts in sweden has lenses, and parts for US headlights
Thanks, I'll check them out 👍
Why the move to vimeo?
Honestly? I like the original headlamps. But who am I, just follow your dreams. The quads looks actually not bad too. Guess it's a matter of get used to it. Pity only those Tüv regulations, so you have to put the "old" ones inside.
Thanks 👍
lo, little bit of useless info.Nice little bits of mods like this are smashin. However if you are ever involved in a bump your car insurance would be declared invalid because the car would then be "Non Standard". As i said Just a little bit of useless info.. 😗
I'm fine with either but European is best for me, but hey it's not my car & if you like it that's all that matters!
