I had the opposite experience. Knew a guy that would say pacifically instead of specifically. I would always start my next sentence with, "Well, Atlantically,..." I am pretty sure he never understood the joke in the three years we worked together.

The thing with his Asian friend Hector I kind of understood cause my mom is Filipino lol. Most Filipinos I know have Spanish sounding names. Funny thing though she sometimes gets mistaken for a Mexican 😄
My maternal grandmother was part Spanish, so my mom looked more Hispanic than Asian lol

I was a little kid in rural California and I had Filipino neighbors, Angie was our babysitter sometimes. Her Dad was driving the tractor on their farm into his 70s.

When I was a kid in California my uncle's land lady was named Kalani, Hawaiian married to a '60s surfer dude. I thought she was Italian. There was an old time Italian singer named Jerry Colonna. I was sometimes an out of it kid.. I've lived in Hawaii from 1990. My "Streetknowlege" is that Tongans & Samoans don't get along. They both are OK people, and other people here too, even California surfer dudes.
