Great coverage. My home marina for 50 years so far!

My first job was driving the BYC shore boat during the summers taking folks out to their boats in that mooring field. A lot of good memories. Not a bad paycheck for hauling people back and forth too on beautiful days! Its also where I learned to master docking solo since I did something like 20 trips a day! Cheers, Casey

Great info. We’ve sailed in and out of Newport Beach, but never stayed over night. Also check out Dana Point. Two anchorage areas and you can stay for five days. Lots of restaurants and scenery.

Thanks for the great info! We spotted Triteia (noticed from your dingy signage) docked 1-1/2 (?) weeks ago on a Sunday at public docks at Marina del Rey. I noticed Wifi in the park so we thought you were probably uploading video. ;) Next morning checked out the newest 'Rippers Cove' video. Love all the local sailing info... catch you on the water!

Ever think about grabbing the mooring ball from amid ship? I think it would be less distance from the side to the ball than the bow.

Hey James. Don't think your old videos get outdated. We are on our way south from the Seattle area and really bennefited from your vids on marinas and anchorages around southern CA. Although Marina Del Rey was a very dirty county run marina the park and surroundings wer great... not to mention the fantastic water pressure in the showers... something a cruiser can appreciate. There was a boat of south pacific islanders in town so entertainment and great dancing and music. Thanks so much and keep on keepin on. Cheers.

Great information, I've enjoyed Anchorage #2 also. Skipping the downsides is a video thing , I guess: So......
The locals made a point of waking me in Anch#2 with their large power boats, I assume because they thought I was NOT in an anchorage.
Also, in the Newport area, the bigger boats often assume the right of way, and racers also assert right of way regardless of ColRegs
Good things to keep in mind and stay safe in a very busy and affluent harbor.

Thanks for the good info James. I avoided Newport Beach and went to Island White in Long Beach last time I went up the coast. I'll check out Newport's new anchorage next time. Now It's all boat projects and little sailing until I depart for Mexico for a few years. I was confused by the short "Half Way to Hawaii video". I thought you recently sailed off in peak hurricane season.

When I had my A30 and using a mooring ball and solo sailing I always used a long bow line and came up to the ball at the cockpit main sheet location looping through the eye and cleated off. when all secure I then secured at the bow with a second line.

I read about the rudder trouble. I read some guys lost their rudder and dragged a bucket off stern as a steering drougue on either side to make headway????

Good stuff. Would you ever consider making a shared google map or mapbox map with all of this info at the different harbors you’re documenting? Pretty valuable info that could be great as a destination on the web.
