If you use a camera, the lens will focus the light in to the image sensor therefore destroying your camera (applies to any camera. phone, slr, etc.) but using one layer of garbage bag (black) then holding your camera up to the sun will work. Oh I'm typing this as the elipse is happening (2:27 PM est)

That may also cause damage to your phone camera. But maybe? I've never thought of aiming my phone camera straight at something that may burn sensitive electronic equipment...
Luboman411 well I mean if u look at the sun it hurts ur eyes and u want to look away but when taking photos of the sun it never hurts ur eyes because then phone dims the light + I always take photos and time laps of the sun and my phone is not broken
