    Cool. I did almost the exact same thing, but I had to build mine a little higher because I have a 70 bus and I wanted the dolly to roll straight in and out without having to go up or down. I used the floor jack to adjust the height of the transmission to match the engine. I've used it twice now and it worked very well - a lot better than using a jack on the engine. Now, if only I were a better mechanic...

    Genius Tony, as many VW motors I have pulled, and I never thought of that, handy rolling , handy storage, it does it all, very well done my friend

    As usual, a simple and clever approach Tony. Have never had anything to do with VWs, but a good mate did build his own Baja Bug when we were finishing high school (college for you guys). Seemed very simple to work on and modify. Cheers, Andy

      Thanks Andy! Yes, they’re about as simple as a car can be. Quite a contrast to modern vehicles. 👍Cheers, Tony

    This is just the thing I need. Working on a budget, its hard to justify the cost of a metal dolly when Im not removing engines often. Thank you for this video

    I use a moto jack, basically a large trans jack.
    Makes it super easy.

    I am literally starting a "2nd" renovation on a 1970 convertible. I'm going to try this...I had started to use a harbor freight cross brace accesory--but I think this is better. I always needed a helper to keep the engine from tipping off the jack...lol. Alas--no more helper--so wish me luck!

    I used the same thing for a while but the front ended up sagging quite a bit due to the cut piece of the dolly. Mine was very similar yours.
    From there I ended up building a metal one out of angle iron that does the trick.
    As long as it works it’s a win!

    • @ChipsAndSparksGarage
      @ChipsAndSparksGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      With todays lumber prices, it might be more economical out of iron. Thanks!👍

    Hey this is a great idea. Thank you for sharing. I was using a transmission jack for this purpose, but I like the fact that you can roll the engine around on the dolly after it has been removed. 👍🏼👍🏼
