    I've just installed the same spindle on my 3018 machine and found that there's just too much play along the X axis, maybe because of the added weight in the Z axis assembly. I'm confident that replacing the rails in the X axis with fully supported ones will solve this problem, though.

  • @shaunonverwacht9626
    @shaunonverwacht9626 Před 4 lety

    You should not solder on a crimp. The solder stiffens the wire and makes it more susceptible to breaking. Just ensure that there is a match between wire size and crimp, and also use a good crimp tool. Furthermore, I recommend you use ferrules to terminate your wire instead of tinning the ends - the solder deforms over time and the wire becomes loose in the terminal. Thanks for sharing your project.

I measured it with a multimeter. There is electricity (48V) at the output of the PWM driver and the positive and negative terminals of the motor are powered, but the motor does not move. Hammering bearings in? No wonder the axis locked up. If you dont have a press, you chould have pulled them in with a length of stud (threaded bar)

    A minor upgrade. If you are going to this amount of effort then it would have been better to have addressed the issues of having the spindle mounted so far away from its supports - this gives unacceptable flex in stock configuration. Im about to add this type of spindle to mine and hopefully will address these issues...

  • @markhall3323

    This a great inspiration and help thanks. The spindles are the weak link on these small CNCs the upgrade is realistic and appropriate. Even if you don’t have a 3D printer you can order the part to be printed and delivered via Thingiverse.

    Get rid of the music, it's unnecessary and I would have the spindle mount CNC,d out of aluminium along with it's mount, it won't cost much as the files are free to download, more info on wiring should have been clearer as there is 220v at the start of the supply, people tend to forget this , while the board is low voltage the power supply will kill you.....

      @cosmochannelvideo  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi, there. If you have a little manual skill is not difficult. The electrical connections are very simple. The motor is not connected to the motherboard of the cnc and starts and adjusts manually. You can put a relay on the output that powers the old motor on the motherboard that closes the contact and starts the motor. However, the speed adjustment remains manual via potentiometer.

All i see in the video is the power supply (I presume) taken from the old motor fixed to the new motor and then two wires (I again presume taken from the glb board (woodpecker board) this is put into the new power control unit into the motor terminals (with pot fixed to) BUT where does the power come from to power the new box ? ie connections to box go (on /off - motor - power) so where does this relay fit you mention ?

What part of the z axis is causing the wobble? Is it the 3d printed plastic motor holder? if so, then that is good, since you can just print a better one, but if the wobble is coming from the metal parts, like large tolerances in the aluminum rails or something like that, then that would be very very hard to fix without basically replacing half of the entire machine

      I also have a CNC 3018. When I bought it and tried it, I also had thoughts about its refinement. But bearings alone cannot do, this engraver (it is an engraver and not a machine tool) has thin guides. After replacing the guides with thicker ones, another problem arises - the effect of the rigidity of the structural elements on the result. Therefore, I went the other way. I ordered the components from the shafts of 16 mm, the bearings printed on the 3D printer and now I assemble the frame of the future cnc from ldsp. And the engraver will remain an engraver to let him perform his tasks - milling of printed circuit boards and small art bas-reliefs.
