  • In this video I try my best to show you how I built the Grover Mine Kit from P&D Marsh, whilst I was away from the shed recuperating from a minor operation, coping with the issues of N scale modeling, and how I added the scene to my own layout with additions of older buildings to complete my mine section. Please feel free to share, like and subscribe and add any comments to the page.

Very interesting Steve. That is a detailed kit but it has repaid the care and effort you've given it. The whole scene is coming together with the various parts of the industrial area and it will be good to see it all lit up in due course. Stephen

Hi Stephen - thanks for the comment - it was worth the hassle but finally got there - have added more detail now which will be on the next video and its all coming along as hoped. All the best for 2024.

Hi Steve. You are a patient man that kit looks so fiddly and awkward with those instructions but you made it work and it payed of it adds so much to the scene. Keep up the good progress. Happy modelling, Nat 🚂

Cheers Nat - it took some dong but as I had loads of time on my hands I was able to take it slow and steady. I will continue to add more as time goes on which hopefully will be on the next video. All the best for 2024

Greetings Steve 🐲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👋 That was a fiddly kit 😲 you definitely have more patience than me 🔨🤬🤬😭 Have you tried Rocket Card glue 🤔 if doing more of these kits, it will speed up the process 👍 Their Glue And Glaze is excellent stuff for windows too 😇 As for watching paint dry 😵‍💫 a blast with a hair dryer 🤫 could be worth a punt 🫣 The mine fits in naturally with the rest of the buildings 😍 the whole thing is really coming together well 😇 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️

Hi Paul - yes I was using the Rocket Card glue but as I was confined for a week I made the best use of the time and let things really dry before moving on. Good tip about the hair dryer - if I can nick it of the better half - perhaps I will use my paint stipper blower on a gentle setting instead - help warm the shed up as well lol. All the best for 2024 mate.

Hi Steve! As others have said, it looks like a bit of a fiddly kit to construct, but your patience and perseverance paid off and you now have a wonderful addition to your layout! Instructions are a major bugbear with me in this hobby, especially with locos, but it looks like it extends to kits too! I've been collecting kits over the past year, so will have that particular annoyance to look forward to as I begin to build them! All the best, Ian.

All I can say Ian, is to take your time and wait for each section to dry before moving on. Luckily I had 7 days of enforced absence from the shed so was able to devote the time plus the wife was away in NY with daughter so I could use the kitchen table and spread everything out without getting nagged lol. All the best for 2024 mate

Hi Steve hope you had a great Christmas. If you contact Paul at PD Marsh he will sort it , I've won't extra stuff and he sends it no problem. The scene looks fantastic looking forward to seeing the builders yard.
All the best for the New Year. Colin

THanks Coilin - i will do that as I have just started a fire engine build from P&D and the four wheels are missing from the package as well, which is a pain. All the best for 2024

Hi Steve, there are times I wonder if 00 gauge may have been a better bet! 🤪🤣
I always find it a sense of achievement when a very fiddly n gauge kit makes it to the layout rather than the bin! Great effort and worth it in the end as the mine buildings look good and fit in nicely with the industrial area.
Happy New Year, cheers, John 🍻🥂

Cheers John - yes I have had a few regrets at using N gauge but to be fair I can fit more in with N gauge, plus as you say the satisfaction of completing a difficult build is high. To be fair the most frustrating part of N gauge is gluing the figures to small bits of clear plastic to enable me to stand them on the layout - now that is a frustrating part of this modelling lark!
All the best for 2024 mate

Looked a fiddly kit Steve - but looked good. The area your concentrating on is coming together with all these industrial buildings. Cheers Euan

Hi Steve, very fiddly that N gauge doing a cracking job I bought a little tool that might help you from hobby-craft like a pen but on each end it is sticky for picking up and placing tiny pieces brilliant bit of kit £10.50 I think you would find it very useful for N gauge cheers Al

Cheers Al - I must look out for that tool - will check the hobby craft web site later today. All the best for 2024!
