- I had some pinstripes, decals, double sided tape, and dealer lettering on my XJ that I wanted off. I found an easy way to remove them all with a $17 tool!

When you said screw you man, I don’t want to advertise for you, you spoke to my soul. I feel the same exact way!
I think we should get royalties from the dealership for displaying all this free advertising for them. Maybe a free part Now and then
It seems only fair!
I’m so grateful for CZcams videos like these. Just need to one job one time and the fact you made such a concise walkthrough makes me feel much more confident going into the project. Thanks brother
Oh my god! I spent HOURS with a heat gun and got nowhere with my two wide stripes. This was a lifesaver!! Thank You for sharing and showing people how to save loads of time and energy on this meticulous task! ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information. Last weekend we spent 4 hours on a small patch of sun baked tape stuck on the hull of our boat. Just ordered one of these to try next week. Thanks again. Hope you have a wonderful day.
Thanks for that. I was really wanting to see it on the tape residue. I have that because the dealer service guys pressure blasted my car and tore the decal. I noticed a week later, so of course it could not have been them... I tried everything to get the adhesive off. Even Mostenbockers failed. Now for an eraser wheel. Follow up to this comment. I had tried everything to get the old adhesive off. Heatgun, cutting wax, Dr Mostenbockers, even a razor blade, nothing shifted it. Bought one of these wheels. Took the adhesive off in 2 minutes. Quick polish and it looks like it was never there.
You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I was a reset manager for Lowe's for a long time and we used California Scents Citrus air freshener spray to get double sided tape off painted steel beams. The tape would just melt and you clean it right off. Mint👌
No kidding!
This badge foam stuff is way more brutal that any double sided adhesive. It even laughed at my 1200 degree heat gun.
@@TOMVUTHEPIMP I've used it on decal adhesive but havent debadged anything to try it. I'm sure you are right.
I'm going to vouch that this absolutely works. I spent hours trying to get some weird film that was on my toyota echo off. I used a cordless heat gun, goo off, and plastic scrapers. It would have taken hours. The eraser wheel took less than 10 minutes. Wow, this is a really neat trick!
Oh awesome. Thanks for the video. I’ve just took my door trim off my 2007 avalanche and was trying to figure out a way. This helped a lot 👍
If you have anything more than a small amount of work to do, get a 3M pinstripe removal wheel and the company’s automotive adhesive remover. The wheel is crazy expensive - more than $40 at this writing - but after hours of use with it and two cheaper knockoffs, the 3M wins. I had to remove a 15-year-old 3M Clear Bra from the hood of a Lexus, and the 3M wheel was the only one to do so without piles of dusty residue. And despite the enormous amount of material that had to be removed, the 3M was the only wheel that did no damage to the clear coat whatsoever. The other wheels left slight marring that had to be removed with compound and polish.
Also, in the video the drill bounces like crazy. Holding it another way, if you can, makes for a smoother action. Hold the drill in your left hand, palm facing and parallel to the work surface. Steady the top of the drill with your left hand and work from right to left. I had no trouble using a Makita battery-powered drill and two 5 amp-hour batteries. Charge per battery lasted 40 minutes or more, and each battery was recharged by the time I needed it. While rubbing alcohol was fairly adequate for removal of residual adhesive, the 3M product was vastly better.
Cannot believe how well that works! Got some seriously baked on 29 year old vinyl on my classic car that needs replacing - fingers crossed!
Very good. Just what I was looking for. Removed the decal and the glue from window outside shade, Thank Doug.
I like the info, a couple of new variations to me, and, I like the way the video is made. All action, no making me wait while you walk across the shop for whatever. Thanks.
We aim to please
Great video. Thanks for the helpful tips! I appreciate that you can admit when you’re wrong and teach others.
I wish I knew about this sooner. We spent hours chipping away at adhesive with different chemicals and plastic scrapers, eventually I ended up just sanding down the top of my doors and re painting it because I got frustrated. Thanks for the tip, I'm grabbing one of those things asap
Just the video I was looking for...I’m going to pick one up today. Thanks
I've had that eraser in my wishlist, unwilling to pull the trigger and get it. You convinced me. I also, don't like giving away free advertisements for the dealer.
This wheel works amazing! I ran it at a low RPM with my drill and YES the Cherokee looks better with out that plastic junk! I used the name brand Wonder Wheel though but same concept
Super useful video; no fuss, no muss, but well done and enjoyable. Thanks!
I was in the taxi cab biz for 30 years and damn I wish I'd known about this. Spent a lot of time removing numbers etc off cabs and adhesive.
You don't have to use adhesive remover, if you keep the whizzy wheel in place itll keep eating through. Also corded drill works better more rpms the better up to 4000rpm max. I used this to remove clear bra adhesive on about 1/3 of my Audi A4 hood and there's plenty of where left to use
Pro tip: when you buy a car from a dealership discuss the price, warranty, all that stuff, and the very last thing you say before you sign on the dotted line is that they're going to take the dealership decal off the back. At that point in the negotiations, after they've wasted 2 hours they'll gladly do for you it if it means they'll make the sale
Great video nice to finally have one where you get right to it without half a video of being bs about unrelated topics thanks for the info
Thank you...i had those fake hood scoops on my vehicle and I ripped them off today...not only did they use the double side tape put he actually put 1 rivet in each so now I have to patch 2 small holes in my hood
Thanks so much! This is exactly the instruction I was looking for today. My jeep has the stupid air spoilers on the windows and dying to try this.
Lol. I agree on that one. get them off!
i had one question and you answered it in two mins
thanks
Great video. Do you have a video or suggesting for removing sticky residue on interior plastics? I have a 2007 VW, notorious fir sticky interior plastics
Great! I have a bunch of advertising I need to pull off my work truck from when I owned a business.
This was freaking AWESOME!!
1. Great video
2. Thanks for putting this up!
I picked up a 3m adhesive eraser from my local parts store. Gonna give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the video. I feel confident now.
Good luck!
Did it work
@@Ryan-de9oh Yes, the 3m eraser worked great.
@@maxeyac ok sweet have u used it to debadge at all I ordered one jus not really to shure if want to use it on the Mercedes
@@Ryan-de9oh I don't know what you mean by debadge. I removed pinstriping and decals from my 2004 king ranch. Then wiped those areas down with rubbing alcohol. I think I had to sparingly use goof off or mineral spirits too on some areas. After everything was off I washed it and waxed it. It looked great with no signs of removed decals, pin striping.
Bro I tried everything but this and just wanted to say thank you!!!!!!
What about tiger seal? Iv car side skirts I want to remove will heat and wd40 help to start doing it then I can do your way to clean up. Any tips
I removed the leftover adhesive tape with a rubber tape remover on my white truck after I removed the trim & got left over with yellow stains where the trim was, will the mineral spirits remove those yellow stains?
All great advice- thanks, man!
Great video! Purchasing one soon! Thanks!
Would this work on clear bra? I've tried steam, heat gun, boiling water, plastic razor. It's coming off in 1/4 inch pieces! I'm not even halfway done in 4 hours and there's a lot of gunk left behind where it did come off. Please advise. Thanks
Can I use acetone or paint thinner to remove paint off steel rims on my jeep? Loved this video picked one up
Use "wax and grease remover" from any auto paint supply store. Put some on a rag and wipe off any glue residue.
@Jamie Boreham I am 60 and have been restoring cars since I was 16 but...Ok. We live in a society where someone can't have an opinion without someone getting butt hurt.
Theres a guy that tested this brand, the m3, and the no name. He said this 1 was the worst. I just bought an M3 eraser wheel today and it rocked the job. Was so easy
great review man...appreciate the video...
If only I had seen this before. Hours spent removing mine. I do have some gunk left so I’ll try the denatured alcohol.
Mine seems to get hot and leave a rubber smear on the car after using it for a bit any suggestions?Using a 18v dewalt cordless drill on high.
I just did this to my 98 XJ with a rubber wheel I got from my brother who was an auto body guy for years. What a difference it is having that plastic crap off the doors lol
Hell yea, If i had know how easily I could get he adhesive off I would have done it day 1. the faded plastic just isn't a good look.
do you guys think this would work for WJ cladding too?
If memory serves, WJ cladding is held on with plastic clips. I am sure there is a way to get them off cleanly, but I don't know if the final product will look as clean as on the XJ
Will this also work on plastic with thick silicon, eg spoiler, without damaging the paint?
I feel the same way about the dealer logos!!! First thing i take off when i get home lol
You're my hero. I just bought one of those.
amazing demo. I didn't know they existed.
Can you use this wheel on old vinyl redouts on plastic tail light housings ?
Bravo Sierra. Damages clearcoat FAST.
🚩Have so many stiicky residue. Even glue globs on inside door panel( driving me Crazy) fabric grey Any thoughts? Also "Mineral Spirits" u said it Left fading behind? How did you get it to be clear/ clean,? Thanks. Love that part,,wish had power drill!
"Screw you man you know. I don't feel like advertising for you. It's my car!" PERFECTLY said!
Is the eraser wheel good for big decals suck as racing stripes?
Thanks for the video man! I removed my door trim and tried numerous methods of removing the double sided tape with different chemicals and it didn’t budge. I heard about a eraser wheel and found your video very informative! I’ll be picking up an eraser wheel tomorrow. Thanks!
so how did it go?
@@gamertyper6476 super easy, just took my time with it and made sure to not sit still for longer than a second and I had no problems with it. I also have black paint so if it would have scratched it or damage the paint I’d easily be able to see and it didn’t. I highly recommend getting an eraser wheel for any type of adhesive removal on anything you don’t wanna damage what’s underneath
@@4pf6abyy73 thanks man! Just ordered my eraser wheel from amazon. Going to be finally getting all the goop off from where I debadged my 2010 g37. I tried litterally everything, and even the highest grades of goo gone, and no amount of elbow grease was going to get that last layer of rough goop off - the top layer is nothing to peel off, but after years of having badges being baked under the sun that last layer is damn near apart of the paint at that point.
Thankyou for the video how to show removing adhesive. Actually i dint know about they selling that eraser wheel! good job! i need it that also.
That ring is knocking the hell out of the paint
For decals, I use plastic trim piece removers. I haven't scratched my paint yet because I don't apply a lot of pressure on the paint. For the left over residue, I use a microfiber cloth and wipe it away
I debadged my motorcycle today but the adhesive was ridiculous! I tried every chemical I had with no results. I tried lacquer thinner, paint thinner, adhesive remover from three different companies, 89 octane and 91 octane gasoline. Out of all that, the 89 octane worked the best but still too slow. I'll hit the automotive paint store up tomorrow and hopefully find an eraser wheel. Thank You!
Any update on how you found success with the motorcycle safety warnings? Got to go through this in about a week
@@StuntRides I’m not sure what you are referring to. If it’s the advanced rider class, well worth the time. Then move on the a more advanced class such as rider pro. I hope that’s what you were after
@@JustPlainCommonSense was actually referring to your comments about debadging you motorcycle of it's warning stickers, your last comment suggested you were going to try the eraser wheel. I have a new aprilia being shipped to US and I'm looking at all my options to get it cleaned up when it arrives.
@@StuntRides my warning stickers peeled off with no problem.
What kind of alcohol did you use for the sticker? I’m removing wheel weights
Thx for you're work and time
👍
Most informative thanks
I need to get some paint transfer off a car door from a scrape-by. Think this'll do it?
Great video thank you, ordered a wheel.
Can you use on any electric drill or does it have to be a high speed drill. I’ve seen for best results around 3000-4000 rpm
Yea, just about any drill I would think. My more powerful corded drill definitely works better than the cheap B&D 14v battery one
D&E In The Garage thanks for response man. Sounds good!
Hey, quick question, do you think the eraser wheel will help clear up visor adhesive that was left over on the window frame?
Possibly. Might be too strong for it.
@Erick Moreno did you ever figure out what to use to remove that? I currently have the same issue
Love the info man keep up the good work. I’ve been binge watching yalls channel since I found it. New sub here. A lot of helpful stuff for my wj. Where can I get one of the D&E decals?
Hey Man, Thanks for the feedback. Very glad you are finding the vids helpful. We havent found a way to sell decals yet, but that should be coming soon. I will make an announcement on the channel once i figure it out. haha
Will this pull off thicker lumps of superglue?
WD-40 + plastic spatula is safer and less expensive, however your method is good and faster.
Does this really work that effectively?
Glad I found this - I have exactly that same adhesive left on my truck from a hood bug guard that broke. I was looking for a safe way to remove the remnant without damaging the paint.
Did the same trim removal on a Cherokee. Used fishing line cut the foam tape behind the trim to avoid prying and damaging tape. Eraser wheel removed the rest.
That is a much better idea! Thanks!
I think it’s time for you to join the Milwaukee tool team.
Can you explain to me what denatured alcohol? I'm going to tackle some double sided adhesive tape leftover on my chevy silverado. Thanks
Basically just a solvent which will attach sticky adhesives, but not your paint
@@DEInTheGarage Thanks, your the man!
Denatured alcohol is alcohol with the nature removed.
Just as a tip, when you buy a vehicle from a dealer have them remove their logo before you buy it. Great video!
The one time I purchased a car from a dealer I told them it was "no deal" if it came with a decal. I am not your billboard!!
Great advice, how would you deal with a burnt out vinyl wrap on a hood?
You know is a huge working area; my vinyl wrap is completely messed up.
This wheel might actually work for that. I bet it would
I’d use a heat gun and a plastic putty knife to get the wrap off then an eraser wheel to get off whatever adhesive is left over. Since it’s been a year I bet you probably already did it but in case anyone reading this in the future is in the same spot that would probably work best.
I bought actual aircraft grade decal remover and it still wouldn’t work for that double-sided adhesive. That stuff is seriously no joke. I can’t wait for my eraser wheel to get here so I can smash that crap. Excellent video, bro!
Good luck with it!
Your jambang is very cool dude.
Cool thanks man
Thank you for this video
Excellent!
I have a Jeep Wrangler Dragon edition. The dragon on my hood has been damaged by heat an sun I bought a replacement to put on. Will the eraser dull my glossy clear coat?
No, it should not have that effect
Would this damage black paint? I want to take off the reside that the spoiler left on my trunk.
Not in my experience
I have glue on my paint... its expanding foam or spray glue... rock hard... what do you reckon this work? Paint shop tried polisher machine didn't touch it
tried all types of safe chemicals.
Yikes.. that spray foam stuff is NO joke. My guess is that anything tough enough to get through it is going to be hard on paint. I think you will need to find some kind of chemical which will dissolve the foam, but is harmless to paint. Get the Safety Data Sheet for the spray foam then look for solvents which attack the main ingredients, but are harmless to paint... a lot of work, but that is all I got. haha
@@DEInTheGarage Thanks man for the reply... look at us ... all community and that. I think I will do a video for a spray shop and get it done properly... bummer.
Is the rubber will safe to use even on glossy paint finish?
Yes, it is safe
New subscriber!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks for subbing!
Thank you for posting, I too am ticked off by dealer stickers
After using the wheel and mineral spirits, was the clear coat damaged at all?
Not at all.
D&E In The Garage - perfect. Thanks!
Nice content. Gloves Bro!
Great video.
I have a 1995 jeep cherokee xj, i live in Texas, i hate dealer stickers to, the dealer sticker was removed before I brought the jeep, the Texas sun has faded the white paint and you can still see where the sticker was.
Dang.. that is a bummer. Never heard of that one before!
Screw you man! I don't feel like advertising for you. It's my car! Hahaha 😂
At first, because the wheel appears somewhat hard, I was thinking paint damage, but seems to have worked well. I wonder if anyone makes a softer one for delicate areas like contours.
dude seeing that thing, I was very tight buttholed about his paint lol
Having so many problems removing the 3M clear coat bra cover on my 2012 Toyota FJ. Heat gun, 3000psi water pressurizer, that crap is baked on crispy Texas style. I wonder if the wheel will strip my paint...?
They are not strong enough to strip paint, might be worth a try
I used the rubber eraser and it left yellow stain on my car. Do you know what I can use to remove it??
I wonder which is better to use on paint, this rubber wheel or the wax wheels? Any insight on the comparison of the two?
I have never tried a wax wheel to be honest
@@DEInTheGarage, I've seen CZcams videos of wax wheels doing the same. I assume they're wax, as that is what the vid descript states. Either way, it's pretty cool how this method removes adhesives.
They're all made of a rubber compound. The whole point of these is that they don't damage your paint.
Thanks Diego, I didn't know if they were made up of wax and/or rubber. They do seem to work magic on those pesky decals!
Great video
Eraser wheels works great for double sided tape.
Don’t forget to use a heat gun when taking off the trim pieces. Heating it up makes it come off easier and leaves less residue to begin with. Just use a plastic putty knife and ease it off slowly. The eraser wheels are really nice to have in the tool collection though.
Good point!
When I use the wheel, I make sure I highly lubricate the surface first with some dish soap and water in a spray bottle
Would WD-40 do as a lubricant?🤔

Back in the day I would use my thumb and just rub it of witch was very hard on your thumb but we were on commission so faster we painted a car the more you would make
Ditto, man. I don't like to advertise for some used car dealer. They could ask if you want a decal, but no.
Good, to-the-point, no extra talk video, too.
